FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man has been arrested after he used a shovel to break some windows and was involved in a domestic dispute.

The 26-year-old Daniel Habiger, of Fargo, is facing charges of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel says officers responded to a report of a man breaking windows, and upon arrival, they found Habiger without shoes and with cuts to his feet that appeared to have been caused by glass.

Vettel says officers then discovered that he had been involved in a domestic dispute in which the victim reportedly suffered injuries to the head after being hit several times and choked.

Habiger’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
WYNDMERE, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says officials with the city of Wyndmere violated the state’s open meetings law when they had a series of conversations about the employment of the city auditor.

Stenehjem on Friday ordered the officials to provide written testimony about the conversations.

Records show Mayor Nathan Brandt on Oct. 8 contacted each city council member after he was informed that the city auditor had a job offer. Brandt and council members during those conversations determined to match the salary offer to entice the auditor to stay.

Stenehjem says the conversations constitute a “meeting.”

Stenehjem has ordered the mayor and each council member to provide a written, signed statement of the conversations they had with each other. The statements should be provided to anyone who requests them.
