Jenna Miller is charged with various counts of burglary, theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Her attorney, Mark Blumer, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

Barnes County Sheriff, Randy McClaflin says several homes in the county were entered in July, August and September.

State’s Attorney Lee Grossman says deputies allegedly found stolen prescription drugs in Miller’s vehicle during a traffic stop last Friday.

Miller is due back in court on Nov. 20 and could possibly enter pleas to the charges against her.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) October 24, 2012 — While military deployments and hospital stays may keep many of our nation’s heroes away from their families this holiday season, the American Red Cross is collecting and distributing cards that send words of encouragement, gratitude and cheer.

From now until  December 7, 2012, Americans can give something that means something by sending a card of thanks and support to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter, Manager, Beth Dewald says, “It just takes a moment to sign a card to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the military community make. You say thanks, we’ll do the rest.”

This is the second year the Buffalo Valley Chapter has participated in this program.

Last year in partnership with local programs such as the Art Center After School program and RSVP+, over 400 cards were sent to Pitney Bowes for distribution around the world.

The chapter is also recruiting volunteers to help distribute cards to military members and veterans in the community around the holidays.

To ensure that cards are delivered in time for the holidays, they must be postmarked no later than December 7.

The Red Cross is inviting the public to send messages of thanks and holiday cheer until December 7 by mailing them to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes

P.O. Box 5456

Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Pitney Bowes Inc. receives cards at the special Holiday Mail post office box, and screens them for hazardous materials, at no charge, and contributes thousands of volunteer hours at sites around the country.

Red Cross volunteers across the United States and on military installations overseas then sort and deliver the cards throughout the holiday season.

The Red Cross and Pitney Bowes have received and distributed more than 4.7 million cards for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families since the program began in 2006.

Individuals are asked to refrain from sending “care packages,” monetary donations, or using glitter or any other kinds of inserts with the cards.

More information and card requirements are at redcross.org/holidaymail..

The public can connect with fellow card senders through Facebook at facebook.com/redcross and Twitter.com/redcross using the hashtag #holidaymail.

CASSELTON, N.D. (AP) – Repair crews in the North Dakota town of
Casselton are trying to figure out why emergency sirens
inexplicably went off Tuesday night.
Residents heard the tone of emergency sirens ringing throughout Casselton around 10:30 p.m. with no explanation.

Public works crews were able to silence the sirens by manually
disabling the siren.
Casselton Auditor Sheila Klevgard says a repair crew is en route
to the city, and she expects work to be finished by Thursday.
Klevgard said in an email to residents that the siren is
designed to emit a different tone based on the type of emergency,
which is why Tuesday night’s tone is not one heard before.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The mayor of Oxbow says he is willing to
explore the idea of building a dike around the town to save it from
being flooded by a proposed Red River diversion project to protect
the Fargo-Moorhead area. But Jim Nyhof has conditions.
Nyhof says the town’s 18-hole golf course would have to be
saved, with any course changes done with the consultation of the
course designer. He also wants to save homes, even if some have to
be moved.
Nyhof says he wants officials to maintain Oxbow “as it
exists.”
The Army Corps of Engineers is looking at the possibility of
building a levee around Oxbow, Hickson and a rural subdivision to
save homes that otherwise would be demolished to make room for a
temporary water storage area.

In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) – A White House spokesman says it doesn’t tell
the full story. Jay Carney is talking about an email that was sent
by the State Department to intelligence officials and to the White
House just two hours after the U.S. consulate came under attack in
Libya last month.

The email said an Islamist militant group had claimed responsibility.

Carney says it was just one piece of information that came in after the attack.

Days later, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. was still saying the attack appeared to have started with a protest over an anti-Islamic video.

SEATTLE (AP) – Algerian terrorist Ahmed Ressam has been
sentenced to 37 years in prison for plotting to bomb Los Angeles
International Airport around the turn of the new millennium.

Ressam was arrested in December 1999 as he drove off a ferry from Canada
into Washington state with a trunk full of explosives.

A judge had twice ordered him to serve 22-year terms, but both times the
sentences were reversed on appeal.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – The reclusive leader of the Taliban
says insurgents will increase the number of insider attacks against
coalition and Afghan forces, which have resulted in the deaths of
at least 52 coalition troops so far this year.

In an emailed statement congratulating Muslims on the eve of a major holiday, Mullah Mohammad Omar said this had proven to be “the most
effective” strategy.

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Mitt Romney’s campaign says he still supports
Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, even though Mourdock
said in a debate that when a woman who is raped becomes pregnant,
it’s something that “God intended.”

And the campaign has not asked Mourdock to take down a TV ad featuring Romney.

A campaign spokeswoman said Wednesday that Romney disagrees with Mourdock’s opposition to abortion in cases of rape and incest.

But she says Romney still supports Mourdock’s bid.

ATLANTA (AP) – Government health experts are advising pregnant
woman to get a whooping cough vaccination.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices approved the recommendation today, only the second time a vaccine has been recommended during pregnancy.
There have been more than 32,000 cases of whooping cough this year,
including 16 deaths.

The resurgence has the nation on track for the worst year for whooping cough since the 1950s.
