JRMC Quality and Risk Manager, Jenna Bredahl, says, “In an effort to keep our patients healthy and safe, we have restricted visitation at the hospital to immediate adult family only, We do apologize for any inconvenience and want to emphasize that our patient’s safety is our highest priority and this is one of many steps that we are taking to ensure that.”
Announcements regarding visitor restrictions will be posted to www.jrmcnd.com.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Firefighters have put out a blaze at a Bismarck home that also caught on fire last month.
Bismarck Fire Department Deputy Chief Dean Meyer says emergency personnel responded to the home Tuesday morning and had the blaze “knocked down pretty quickly.” A fire at that home on Nov. 6 caused an estimated $35,000 in damage and displaced a family.
Meyer says it’s too early to determine the extent of the damage caused by Tuesday’s blaze.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities in eastern North Dakota say a 34-year-old man in possession of more than 4 pounds of marijuana has been arrested.
Sgt. Tara Morris with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office says Brian Flem is facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.
Morris says Flem was arrested around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday after deputies made a traffic stop on Interstate 94. He was found driving with a suspended Minnesota driver’s license.
Morris says deputies then discovered Flem was the subject of an arrest warrant for failure to appear on a driving under suspension charge. They later discovered Flem was in possession of drug paraphernalia and more than 4 pounds of marijuana.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A woman who pleaded not guilty in state court to running a prostitution parlor in Minot has now pleaded not guilty to similar charges in federal court.
Thirty-two-year-old Trina Nguyen (wihn) is accused of operating a sex business in Dickinson after posting bond on the state charges filed in 2013.
Her co-defendant also appeared in federal court Monday, but 32-year-old Loc Tran didn’t enter a plea. Tran asked for a Vietnamese interpreter, and Magistrate Judge Charles Miller granted the request.
Tran and Nguyen face federal charges including racketeering and extortion stemming from allegations that they lured women from California to work as prostitutes in western North Dakota. State charges were dismissed when federal prosecutors took jurisdiction in the case.
Trial for Nguyen is scheduled to begin March 3 in Bismarck.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Officials say building permit values in North Dakota’s largest city have topped $1 billion.
Jim Gilmour is planning director with the city of Fargo. He says the milestone is more than two and a half times higher than the previous record of $377 million set last year.
Among this year’s permits are 44 multi-family apartment buildings, 312 new single family homes and 79 new commercial buildings, including a $344 million Sanford Health hospital project.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The interim president and CEO of the North Dakota State University Development Foundation and Alumni Association says he’d be willing to meet with employees who have left in recent months.
A dozen or so employees have retired or resigned recently, some after being demoted or taking pay cuts.
Keith Bjerke (buh-YEER’-kee) has been tabbed to lead the foundation and association. He’s a former administrator at NDSU and a former commander of the state National Guard. He’s taking over for Doug Mayo, who has signed a settlement agreement with the organizations after 1 1/2 years at the helm.
The agreement gives Mayo four months of severance pay, $5,000 in relocation expenses, use of a vehicle and a letter of reference.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – City officials in Minot are working with a local developer to try to revive construction of two downtown parking ramps in the spring.
Two parking lots were torn up in November 2013 so construction could begin on the ramps that are to provide 225 parking spaces. But activity stopped shortly after when subcontractors left after not getting paid.
The City Council last October approved changes to its agreement with Cypress Development in an effort to help the developer get more financing. The new agreement extends the city’s property lease with Cypress from four years to nine years to allow more time to complete the full $27 million project which also includes retail and residential development.
A final agreement could be reached next month.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Transportation Department and Highway Patrol say they’re making efforts to increase safety on the major north-south artery in the western oil patch.
There have been 25 traffic crash fatalities on the U.S. Highway 85 corridor in the past two years. The Department of Transportation this month launched a safety review that officials say will continue into January and February.
The Highway Patrol says it has boosted patrols on the highway this year and will continue the effort over the coming weeks.
The DOT is spending about $300 million to four-lane Highway 85 between Williston and Watford City. Agency Director Grant Levi says finished portions were designed to meet all federal safety requirements, but crashes and fatalities unfortunately continue to occur.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The federal government says over 8,500 North Dakota residents signed up for health insurance in the first month of the Affordable Care Act’s second enrollment period.
The second enrollment season for President Barack Obama’s signature health care law began Nov. 15 and runs through Feb. 15. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday said 8,528 people selected plans in North Dakota by the Dec. 15 deadline for coverage beginning Jan. 1. Of those, 61 percent re-enrolled in plans and 39 percent signed up for the first time.
About 88 percent of those choosing plans in the first month were deemed eligible for financial assistance.
Nationwide, over 4 million people signed up for the first time or re-enrolled in coverage for 2015 during the open enrollment’s first month.

Coach Hegerle says of Hensch, “We are thrilled that Morgan will be joining our program this spring! I have watched Morgan the past two years develop as a player and a teammate and I am looking forward to her continued growth at the University of Jamestown. Skill wise, Morgan will add experience and power to our front row. More importantly, Morgan has demonstrated the kind of team-first character that has been the strength of our program. I am happy that Morgan has committed to pursuing her athletic and academic goals as a Jimmie!”

Officials say three lions were killed Monday, filling the seven-cat quota in the zone that roughly encompasses the southwest and west central parts of the state.
There is no quota in Zone 2, which is the rest of the state. Lion hunting there is open through the end of March.

PANGKALAN BUN, Indonesia (AP) – Parts of the wreckage of AirAsia Flight 8501 have been brought to the town nearest to the spot where the wreckage was found today in the waters off Indonesia. Bodies of the people aboard the plane are also being brought there for identification. As many as seven bodies were brought aboard a navy ship Tuesday. There were 162 people on board the plane when it went down.
WASHINGTON (AP) – The State Department is denying a report that the U.S. is proposing an exchange of Iranian prisoners in the U.S. for a former American Marine currently in prison in Iran. The report was carried by Iran’s semi-official news agency, quoting a lawyer for Amir Hekmati (ah-MEER’ hehk-MAH’-tee). But the State Department says it’s not true — and it’s calling again for Hekmati’s release on humanitarian grounds.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) – The U.N. Security Council has scheduled a vote Tuesday evening on a Palestinian resolution calling for an end to Israel’s occupation within three years. But it’s almost certain to be defeated because of opposition from the U.S. and Israel. Washington has insisted on a negotiated peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, not an imposed timetable.
HAVANA (AP) – Cuban dissidents say police have arrested at least three members of the island’s political opposition. The arrests came hours before the first major test of the government’s tolerance for dissent since the announcement this month that the U.S. and Cuba would be moving toward diplomatic relations. An expatriate artist had announced plans to set up an open microphone for any member of the public Tuesday at Havana’s Plaza of the Revolution.
BERKELEY, Mo. (AP) – The mayor of the St. Louis suburb of Berkeley says there’s no reason for protests to continue over the shooting death of an 18-year-old black man by a white police officer last week — unless, he says, the protesters won’t accept the fact that the 18-year-old had drawn his gun first. Mayor Theodore Hoskins and other city officials announced today that an internal police investigation confirmed that Antonio Martin had pointed a gun at the officer who then shot him.
