Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 29, 2012) — The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation, Executive Board has voted unanimously to hire a professional planner for the Jamestown area.
Te recommendation will go to the full JSDC Board, and if approved the recommendation goes to the Stutsman County Commission and the Jamestown City Council for review.
Under the proposal JSDC would fund up to 50 percent of the cost of a city planner, with the cost ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to be negotiated with SRF Consulting.
Past phase one, the proposal would be opened for bids from planning contractors.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 29, 2012) — Ave Maria Village Monday, announced the receipt of a $50,000 donation of matching funds from Catholic Extension in Chicago, Ill.
The funds will match $1 for every $2 raised, up to $50,000 matched on $100,000 raised in cash from individual donors toward the capital project.
Catholic Extension President Father Jack Wall, says, “We are proud to partner with the Diocese of Fargo to provide funding to support the chapel construction project at Ave Maria Village. Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News ) Oct 29, 2012 — North Dakota Lt. Governor Drew Wrigley visited Jamestown Monday with stops at Cherrington and Cavendish Farms.
Later in the afternoon he campaigned door to door with District 12 Republican Senate candidate Bernie Satrom, and House candidates Alex Looysen and Ken Hall.
Wrigley said, “It’s been a terrific year so far for Gov. Dalrymple and me campaigning across North Dakota on the Republican ticket with our fantastic fellow candidates. We’re working hard every day, talking to folks about the future, about how far we’ve come as a state and about the progress we know is ahead.
He added, “We are proud to be writing the next great chapter for North Dakota.”
Governor Jack Dalrymple and Lt. Governor Drew Wrigley face the Democratic Party endorsed candidates, Ryan Taylor, for Governor, and Ellen Chaffee, for Lt. Governor.
Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — A presentation with information on the Valley City sales tax renewal advisory vote and a discussion concerning the National Guard Interstate 94 development was shown live Monday, (Oct 29, 2012) on CSi Cable 68, and now showing in replays, on Channel 68..
Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist gave the presentation, focusing on the Valley City Sales Tax renewal, and information on the National Guard expansion project, along with industrial/commercial development opportunities including the I-94 Regional Development Corridor, east of the John Deere Seeding Group plant.
With the Valley City Sales tax, 70 percent of the 1 percent tax goes to economic development, 25 percent for property tax relief, and 5 percent for service and retail image enhancement.
The Sales Tax extension would keep the tax in effect through December 31, 2029.
Ms. Feist added the tax extension affords for long term financing, for long term needs.
Highlights of the presentation included saying 23-35 soldiers will be based in Valley City, with the $3.6 million investment.
The facility includes 110,000 square feet, with a readiness center, maintenance area, and storage facility.
The Guard will also hold weekend drills at the facility.
She said, a 77 acre tract of land owned by the Stan Ryan family will be annexed into Valley City for construction of the new National Guard facility and future development.
On the land, 30 acres will be dedicated to the private sector, 20 acres for the National Guard, with direct access to I-94 Exit 294.
The eastside of the land will be available for commercial/industrial development.
She said utilities will be run to the facility, by boring under I-94.
She added, other funding sources will include Tax Increment Financing estimated at $1.25 million and $1.5 million in federal EDA funding.
Other funding sources will include state CDBG Funds, dollars from the NDDOT, and the National Guard will provide cost sharing of some of the infrastructure.
Businesses will all fund a portion of the infrastructure through property taxes.
The South Central Dakota Region Council will also be involved.
The closing is expected no later than December 14, 2012.
Planning and design will take place in early 2013, with bidding expected in late 2013, or early 2014.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2014, with completion of the infrastructure in the fall of 2014.
Valley City Auditor, Avis Richter reminds voters, that absentee ballots for the City Sales Tax extension, Advisory vote are at City Hall.
The absentee ballots for the General Election are at the Barnes County Courthouse.
On election day Valley City residents will vote at their regular precincts, for both the advisory vote and the General Election.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Jamestown College Theatre will open the 2012-13 season with the musical comedy “The Drowsy Chaperone,” by Lisa Lambert, Don McKellar, Bob Martin and Gret Morrison. The show runs Nov. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium.
On Monday’s (Oct 29, 2012) Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, Director, Mike Mcintyre said, the play is about a reclusive Broadway fan who introduces the audience to his favorite musical recording, that of the fictitious “The Drowsy Chaperone” from 1928.
The recording’s crazy characters come to life in his apartment.
The show opened on Broadway in 2006 and won the Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score.
Also on our show were Jamestown College student actors in the production Sydney Johnson, who portrays the character, Janet Van de Graaf, and Jacoby Holt who plays a ‘gangster,’ in the production.

This presentation will focus on coping with loss during the holiday season.
Holiday time can be an extremely stressful time for those who have experienced the death of a loved one.
For most people, the holidays are a time spent with family and friends.
When a special friend or family member is no longer with us, celebrating a holiday often emphasizes that loss. Featured speaker,
Wendy Hournbuckle, will share her personal experience with loss and how that loss affects the holiday season for her and her family.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man faces a felony charge
after police reportedly found him having sex with a 14-year-old
girl in an apartment building hallway.
Nineteen-year-old Christopher Vandermeer has been charged with gross sexual mposition.
A judge also ordered Vandermeer not to have contact
with the teen.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of cooking up synthetic drugs
that led to the deaths of two teenagers has pleaded guilty in
federal court.
A complaint says Andrew Spofford was a leader in a
conspiracy to deal drugs in the Grand Forks area. Christian Bjerk
and Elijah Stai died of overdoses within a week of each other in
June.
Spofford will be sentenced in January and faces at least 20
years in prison. He could get life.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Today is the final day of PepsiCo’s bottling
operation in Fargo. Sixteen people will lose their jobs but the
company says it will offer them relocation assistance and career
coaching.
About 300 warehouse and sales people in Fargo won’t be
affected.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The CEO of a planned pulse crop processing
plant in South Dakota says it could compete with North Dakota’s
established industry by moving into what he calls secondary
processing.
Mat Chaudry says that includes such processes as making
gluten-free flour, instead of just cleaning and packaging dry pea,
lentil and chickpea crops.
The Capital Journal reports that South Dakota Pulse Processors
LLC is working to raise up to $2 million from investors to move
forward with the plant in the central South Dakota town of Harrold.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Former President Bill Clinton appeared in
North Dakota’s largest city to endorse U.S. Senate candidate Heidi
Heitkamp.
Clinton yesterday touted Heitkamp as the “common-sense”
choice for the state.
The former president also the crowd that the cult film “Fargo” was played on Air Force One at least 25 times during his second term in office.
GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) – Local and state leaders attended a
ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new housing development for workers
building pipeline to go to North Dakota’s booming oil patch.
Among the leaders who attended the Monday ceremony for Diverse
Energy Systems new employee housing development was Sen. John
Hoeven, North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple, Grafton Mayor Chris West
and officials from the company.
The housing development, called DiverCity, consists of 10 duplex
units on 3.5 acres of land on the north side of Grafton. It’s
designed to provide transitional housing for workers until they can
find more permanent accommodations.
Diverse Energy Systems builds and services systems for the oil
and gas industry in the Bakken. It employs 85 people.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo Beer Co. is seeking a brewery site in
its namesake city.
The company began selling beer in Fargo area and elsewhere last year. The beer is brewed in Wisconsin.
Aaron Hill owns the company with three other partners. He says
they hope to have a Fargo brewery site by mid-November.
Hill declined to talk about specifics until the deal is
concluded.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – The University of Sioux Falls football
team has moved up four spots to No. 17 in this week’s AFCA Division
II poll after a 54-41 win over Upper Iowa.
No other team from the Dakotas is ranked in either that poll or
this week’s NAIA poll. Dakota Wesleyan dropped out of the NAIA poll
after a 41-13 loss to Northwestern over the weekend.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University has moved up in
both Football Championship Subdivision polls after a 23-17 weekend
win over Southern Illinois.
The defending national champion Bison have moved from No. 3 to
No. 2 in the coaches’ poll and have reclaimed the top spot in The
Sports Network poll. Georgia Southern is No. 1 in the coaches’ poll
and No. 2 in the TSN poll.
South Dakota State is No. 25 in the coaches’ poll and No. 21 in
the TSN poll after not being ranked in either poll last week. The
Jackrabbits beat Youngstown State 41-28 on Saturday.
NDSU and SDSU play in Fargo on Nov. 10.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The St. Cloud State women’s hockey team is
stranded in Rhode Island because of superstorm Sandy.
The Huskies were supposed to fly out of Boston yesterday after playing a
weekend series against Providence College.
The team may not be able to catch a flight out until Thursday.

two-game lead in the NFC West where they own a 6-2 mark at the
halfway point of the NFL season.
Alex Smith completed 18 of 19 passes and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Michael Crabtree and one to Randy Moss in the 49ers’ 24-3 romp past Arizona, which lost its fourth in a row.

Cleveland. In the final game of the night, Kobe Bryant’s status is
unclear as he is recovering from a foot injury as the new-look Los
Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks have waived guard Delonte (deh-LAHN’-tay)
West after suspending him twice in less than two weeks for conduct
detrimental to the team. The move created a roster spot for center
Eddy Curry, who was picked up last week and could end up starting
in the opener against the Los Angeles Lakers because of an injury
to Chris Kaman (KAY’-mihn).

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Twins have declined their $9.25
million option on pitcher Scott Baker’s contract for next season.
The decision announced yesterday makes Baker eligible for free
agency. The 31-year-old is 63-48 since his debut in 2005.

NEW YORK (AP) – President Barack Obama has declared a major
disaster for New York City and Long Island.
Superstorm Sandy is marching slowly inland after leaving at least 17 dead in its march up the East Coast. Millions of people are without power or mass
transit and many areas are flooded.
NEW YORK (AP) – New York City is among the hardest hit places
and the effects of Superstorm Sandy are expected to linger for a
while.
A large swath of the city has no electric and subway and
vehicle tunnels are flooded. A fire destroyed at least 50 houses
overnight in Queens and the financial district is closed for a
second day.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A different form of water from
Superstorm Sandy has blitzed West Virginia — snow and lots of it.
A blizzard warning covers a large part of the state today as snow
and high winds blow over Appalachia.
Forecasters say a foot and more of snow was reported in lower elevations. High elevations in the mountains were getting more than two feet. More than 128,000 customers in West Virginia are without power.
SENDAI, Japan (AP) – An audit by the Japanese government shows a
lot of money earmarked for earthquake and tsunami reconstruction
went elsewhere.
About a quarter of the $148 billion budget has been
spent on unrelated projects, including research whaling.
More than half the $148 billion hasn’t even been doled out yet. Nearly all of
the 340,000 people evacuated from the disaster zone remain
uncertain how they will ever resettle.
GENEVA (AP) – Swiss banking giant UBS AG is to cut as many as
10,000 employees, or some 15 percent of its staff, to drastically
shrink its ailing investment bank.
The news of the layoffs came as Switzerland’s biggest bank posted another big loss for the third quarter. It says the job cuts are part of a strategy to shore up profits.
