Grand Forks (CSi) Edgewood Real Estate Investment Trust (Edgewood) Friday announced its plan to develop a senior living community in Jamestown, that will offer more than 70 apartments, providing assisted living and memory care services. Upon completion the property will be leased to Edgewood Group LLC.

The $8 million construction project is projected to begin this spring with an expected spring 2016 opening. Edgewood will have assisted living and memory care apartments and will provide upscale amenities such as a senior clinic, movie theater, chapel, salon, library, restaurant-style fine dining, fitness center, an outdoor courtyard with walking paths and resident transportation. Edgewood Senior Living Jamestown will provide employment for at least 45 local residents.

Philip Gisi, President/CEO of Edgewood Group Companies, says, “Jamestown is a wonderful community with great places to live, work and play. We’re proud to expand our senior living services with these new assisted living and memory care apartments. Jamestown (CSi) Sanford Health’s audiology services in Jamestown will be moving to the Sanford Health Clinic, at 5th Avenue, NE starting Monday, February 16, 2015.

Patients with any questions regarding appointments or the moving of services,  can call 701-252-4100.

The audiology services provide hearing screenings, diagnosis and treatment for newborns to senior citizens. Sanford audiologist and staff will continue to provide hearing aids and treatment to help slow hearing loss and improve hearing ability.

 

Jamestown (CSi) Officials with the CHS fertilizer plant to soon start construction, say they will continue  with plans to build the $3 billion dollar plant, as they look for a local water source for operations.

The State Water Commission, which evaluates the availability of water and issues permits, said many of the water rights for the area already had been allocated.

Cenex Harvest States Pipeline LLC President John Traeger has met with the Bismarck City Commission to ask for approval of a study for a possible pipeline project.

CHS would like to purchase water from Bismarck’s water treatment plant or lease a portion of capacity from the city’s old water intake on the river.

He says if a pipeline is not feasible other options will be looked at.

The CHS plant at Spiritwood will produce more than 2,400 tons per day of anhydrous ammonia, and the converted to urea, for the fertilizer compound, urea-ammonium nitrate and diesel exhaust fuel.

It is one of two proposed fertilizer plants in the state expected to open within the next few years, the other, is a plant proposed by Dakota Gasification to produce urea at its Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah.

 

Jamestown (CSi) The James River Humane Society is planning the annual Poker Tourney coming upon March 21, 2015.

On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President, Matt Opsahl said on March 2^nd it’s the James River Humane Society’s Annual Meeting with elections for the Board of Directors of the JRHS. The meeting is at Hardees at 6:30 pm.

He added that currently there are 17 cats and 6 dogs are available for adoption at the shelter.

Included is a year and a half old male Black Lab, which is in foster care, and arrangements can be made to meet the dog.

Bismarck (CSi) The Public Input Meeting scheduled for February 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Jamestown High School is cancelled and will be scheduled at a later date. The meeting was to discuss proposed improvement for ND Highway 20 from the Jamestown urban limits extending north 21.3 miles.

　

Jamestown (CSi) The Spiritwood Energy Park Association (SEPA) Board of Directors has unanimously accepted a $785,000 loan from the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation

The dollars will cover the cost of an automated switch BNSF is requiring between the Energy Park Association’s rail loop and the BNSF mainline.

The 12-year loan carries a zero percent interest and has a two-year deferral on repayment of principal.

BNSF is requiring the payment no later than March 31 to begin service to the rail loop.

The rail loop provides service to the tenants within the Energy Park Association’s industrial park. Dakota Spirit AgEnergy, a tenant of the industrial park, will begin operations in April and requires rail service as part of its operations plan

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Police say North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler has been arrested on a preliminary assault charge and released from custody after posting bond.
 
     A statement from the Bismarck Police Department says Baesler was taken into custody after officers responded to a report of domestic assault at a home early Sunday. Police say a 48-year-old man with a visible injury told officers that Baesler assaulted him.
 
     Police say officers located Baesler and arrested her on a charge of simple assault. She was booked in the Burleigh County Detention Center.
 
     A detention officer says Baesler was released Sunday night on a $150 cash bond.
 
     Baesler said in a statement that she wishes she’d sought help escaping the “unhealthy relationship” before things escalated.
 
     Jail records show a court hearing is set for Tuesday.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo man is accused of falling asleep and smothering his 2-month-old daughter after a night of drinking last summer.
 
Authorities have charged 30-year-old Nicholas Desjarlais with negligent homicide. The felony charge carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison.
 
     Court documents do not list an attorney for Desjarlais, and a telephone listing for him could not be found.
 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is cautioning North Dakota residents that scam artists are taking advantage of a recent data breach at Anthem Inc.
 
     Anthem services the Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance networks nationwide. Stenehjem says scam artists are now sending out emails claiming to be from Anthem, offering free credit monitoring for its customers.
 
     Stenehjem says the phony email includes a link to a supposed credit monitoring service and requires a Social Security number to be entered. He says any information entered on the phony website goes straight to the scam artists.
 
     Anthem says it’s using regular mail only – not email – to notify people affected by the breach.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Declining farm markets have left many North Dakota farmers wondering what to plant in the spring.
 
     Spence Koenig of Pioneer Seeds says some farmers are still trying to figure out how many acres and which crops to plant. He says seed sales were busy in December, slowed during the first part of the year and are now beginning to pick back up.
 
     Koenig says his company has already sold out of alfalfa seed due to high interest from cattle producers.
 
     Harry Kaasian (KASH’-in) of Russell Hedging is a marketing grain expert. He says farmers are taking more time to assess their finances and figure out which crops are more profitable.
 
     Kaasian says the markets should bounce back once the railroad gets back to a more normal transportation schedule.
 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Retired South Central District Judge Donald Jorgensen has been honored for the work he did addressing domestic violence and advocating for children.
 
     Jorgensen, who ended a three-decade career behind the bench in July, was presented with the “Love Without Fear” award from the Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck.
 
     Tamara Barber is the chair of the center’s board of directors. Barber says Jorgensen was extremely fair to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Barber adds that Jorgensen was also a strong advocate for children, supporting the development of visitation centers.
 
     The Kenmare native is a graduate of the University of North Dakota law school. He served in the Southwest Judicial District before transferring to the South Central District in 1995. He was first elected a district judge in 1984.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The chief of the North Dakota Department of Health’s environmental health section says he welcomes an audit of his agency’s performance related to regulating oil and gas.
 
     Dave Glatt tells The Associated Press that he expects such an audit, even though it won’t be required by law.
 
     North Dakota’s House last week soundly defeated bipartisan legislation by a 67-22 vote that would have required performance audits of the state Department of Mineral Resources and the state Department of Health. Both agencies have departments that regulate oil and gas activity in the state.
 
     House Democratic Minority Leader Kenton Onstad sponsored the bill that would have required the audits.
 
     Onstad says the bill was crafted after increasing worry from landowners and others that the agencies were not adequately regulating the oil industry.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Agriculture Department has awarded grants totaling more than $30,700 to projects to plant trees and develop orchards in communities.
 
     Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the goal of the federally funded North Dakota Community Orchard Project is to increase production of fruit and nut trees, provide educational opportunities and foster community spirit.
 
     The money can be used for plants and supplies. It can’t be used to buy land or to build permanent structures.
 
     The eight groups receiving money are in Fort Yates, Wahpeton, Munich, Colfax, Sheyenne, Mylo, Fargo and Bismarck.

 

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame is hosting its annual meeting and western expo in Dickinson.
 
     The events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Ramada Grand Dakota Hotel. More than 200 delegates are expected to attend.
 
     A banquet and fundraising auction will be held Saturday. The Outlaw Sippin’ Band will perform after the auction.
 
     The hall’s mission is to preserve the history and promote the culture of North Dakota’s Native American, ranching and rodeo communities by educating people about the state’s western heritage.
 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Navy-owned ship that will be used to transport troops will carry the city of Bismarck’s name next year. The Tribune reports the Bismarck City Commission has voted in support of the move. City officials plan to team up with the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce to fund events celebrating the new high-speed vessel that’s being built in Alabama.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The city of Bismarck is holding a human rights essay and poetry contest for students.
 
     The contest organized by the Bismarck mayor’s human relations committee is open to students in fourth and fifth grade, as well as in sixth through eighth grade. The essays and poems are meant to foster awareness about human rights among the students.
 
     One essay and one poem from each age level will be selected. The outstanding entries will be recognized during a ceremony in April and will be displayed on the city’s website.
 
     Entries must be postmarked or emailed by March 13.

 

STANDING ROCK SIOUX RESERVATION, N.D. (AP) – Tribal leaders in the Dakotas are working together to build a monument to honor Native American code talkers.
 
     The code talkers were a group of American Indians who used their native languages to outwit the enemy and protect U.S. battlefield communications during World Wars I and II.
 
     The monument would be displayed on the South Dakota capitol grounds.

315 registered gymnasts will be coming to Jamestown from North Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana to compete.

The action starts at  4:30-pm,  with number five Oakes (4-16) taking on Ellendale, followed by a six pm, contest  with Barnes County North vs  Edgely Kuln-Montpelier  in the Region Three  qualifying matches.

Championship is set for 7:30 Monday night as Carrington and LaMoure-Litchville-Marion.

 NEW YORK (AP) – The Western Conference beat the East 163-158 in the 65th NBA All-Star game as Russell Westbrook poured in 41 points to take MVP honors. Westbrook set All-Star game halftime records with 11 field goals and 27 points, and he fell one shy of Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 42 points set in 1962. James Harden added 29 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the West, which blew a 20-point, first-half lead before winning.

     MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Frank Kaminsky scored 23 points as No. 5 Wisconsin beat Illinois 68-49 yesterday. The Badgers are now off to their best start in school history at 23-2. Wisconsin leads the Big Ten at 11-1 in conference play. The Illini had a four-game winning streak snapped. Malcolm Hill scored 15 points.

 NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Knicks have agreed to a buyout with Amare Stoudemire.
 
     Stoudemire has battled injuries since signing a five-year contract worth about $100 million in 2010. He will be able to sign with another team once he clears waivers.
 
     The Knicks would not confirm the report Sunday, which cited a league source. Stoudemire had said before the All-Star break that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to stay with the team, which has the NBA’s worst record, knowing he didn’t have much time left in his career to chase a championship.

 

NASCAR…

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Jeff Gordon will start from the pole in the final Daytona 500 of his career next Sunday.
 
     Gordon announced that this will be his final full-time season as a NASCAR driver, and he’s been adamant that next Sunday’s Daytona 500 will be his last. The four-time NASCAR champ and three-time Daytona 500 winner secured the pole with Hendrick teammate Jimmie Johnson locking down the other front row spot.
 
     For the first time in 57 years knockout rounds were used to determine the pole sitter and not all the drivers liked it. Clint Bowyer called it a “cute show” after he wrecked in the first round. Reigning champion Kevin Harvick grumbled Daytona’s tradition had been ruined, while three-time champion Tony Stewart called it “a complete embarrassment for our series.”
 
     Not long after qualifying was over the cars of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Denny Hamlin failed post-qualifying inspection for the Daytona 500 pole. Earnhardt and Hamlin will have to start at the rear of their respective qualifying races Thursday.
 
     Earnhardt posted the 10th-fastest time in the final qualifying round. Hamlin was third fastest in the session.

     PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) – Brandt Snedeker closed with a 5-under-par 67 to win the Pebble Beach Pro-Am for the second time in three years, beating Nick Watney by three strokes. He was 22-under for the tournament, topping the scoring mark of minus-20 set in 2013. He had just one bogey in 72 holes and assured himself a spot in the Masters and PGA Championship after falling out of the top 50 at the end of last season.
 
     NAPLES, Fla. (AP) – Lee Janzen edged Bart Bryant in a playoff to win the Champions Tour Ace Group Classic. Each finished regulation tied at 16-under-par before Janzen parred the first playoff hole while Bryant bogeyed. Esteban (san ES’-tih-bahn) Toledo finished third while second-round leader Colin (KAH’-lihn) Montgomerie finished four shots off the pace.

 

In world and national news…

 COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) – Two men who are suspected of helping the gunman who carried out the deadly attacks in Denmark over the weekend are making a court appearance today. A defense lawyer says they’re accused of helping the gunman evade authorities and get rid of a weapon. The attacker was eventually killed in a shootout with police. Two people had been killed in the attacks. One was a Danish filmmaker attending a free speech event. The other was a security guard outside a synagogue.
 
     CAIRO (AP) – Egypt is quickly striking back against Islamic State targets in Libya — just hours after the release of a video showing the beheading of a group of Egyptian Christian hostages on a beach there. Egyptian warplanes today launched attacks on militant positions in Libya — the first time Egypt has publicly acknowledged taking military action in the neighboring country.
 
     BRUSSELS (AP) – Expectations are low as Greece’s new radical left government begins talks with the country’s European creditors. Athens wants a substantial easing in the terms of repayment of its rescue loans, and it wants to be free from some of the austerity requirements. Germany’s finance minister says he’s “very skeptical” that a solution can be found at today’s meeting in Brussels.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – Operations are back to normal at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, DC. A water pipe in the control tower burst last night, triggering an alarm and an evacuation. Some flights had to be diverted elsewhere. Single-digit temperatures and frigid winds gripped the Washington area over the weekend.
 
     VATICAN CITY (AP) – Homeless men and women are lining up outside the public restrooms off St. Peter’s Square to take advantage of Pope Francis’ new charitable initiative: a free shave and shower for the least fortunate. The Vatican’s barber shop for the homeless opened today. The pope’s chief alms-giver has said the project is needed since homeless people are often shunned for their appearance.
