Update…

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Highway Patrol reports, a two vehicle accidents Wednesday (Oct 31, 2012) just before 3-p.m., injured the drivers of both vehicles.

The report said a car operated by 22 year old Brittany Beeter, of Minot, was westbound on I-94 seven miles east of Jamestown, traveling behind a car driven by 31 year old Scott Mayer (city of residence not listed.)

The Beeter car was moving to the left lane to pass Mayer, but struck Mayer’s car in the right rear section.

Mayer’s vehicle ran off the roadway and entered the north ditch.

Beeter’s car went across the median, crossed the eastbound lanes of I-94, and went into the south ditch.

Both Beeter, and Mayer were taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — October saw a large increase in Jamestown airline boardings.

On Thursday’s (Nov 1, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matthew Leitner said, the October 2012 Jamestown Great Lakes Airlines boarding were 261. That’s compared to a usually slow September 2012 number of 171, and 525 boardings in September of 2011.

All enplanes including arrivals in Jamestown in September this year were over 500.

Leitner said the increase in Jamestown boardings is attributed to the integration of airline loyalty programs, and continue excellent “on-time,” record, and competitive fares.

He added Great Lakes Airlines may implement a morning schedule change, however that has not officially been applied for yet by the airline.

The change would move the 9: 15 a.m. departure from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., with the arrival moving from 9-a.m., to 9: 30 a.m.

Leitner pointed out that the recent airlines delays, caused by hub airports in the east, due to superstorm Sandy, had no affect on Jamestown flights, and no delays occurred.

Leitner reminded air travels to take advantage of travel agencies in Jamestown to book flights, as the travel agencies can also provide information concerning the city of destination.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KCSi-T.V. News) — The North Dakota Department of Human Services has announced the appointment of Jeff Stenseth as regional director of Southeast Human Service Center in Fargo and South Central Human Service Center in Jamestown.

Stenseth has served as the associate director of the Fargo human service center since 2007.

His appointment follows the retirement of Candace Fuglesten.

Alex Schweitzer, director of Field Services for the department, says, “Jeff brings compassion for people and a significant amount of experience in clinical leadership to his new role. He will be a great leader and will work hard on the continuation of quality services to the state’s most vulnerable people.”

Stenseth has over 20 years of experience in the mental health and addiction treatment fields.

Since 1998, he has held various positions at the Fargo human service center.

Stenseth has a master’s degree in counseling from Minnesota State University, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, and an associate’s degree in liberal studies from West Valley College in Saratoga, CA.

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Democratic Party endorsed U.S. Senate candidate, Heidi Heitkamp will join Senator, Kent Conrad in the “Bring It Home, Heidi!” Bus Tour.

The Democratic Endorsed U.S. House of Representative candidate, Pam Gulleson will join the 30 city bus tour across North Dakota.

The tour bus will visit Valley City and Jamestown, as the five day campaign tour begins Thursday (Nov 1, 2012) and concludes Monday in Fargo.

Thursday’s rallies will be held at District 24 Democratic Headquarters in downtown Valley City at 3:45pm, followed by stopping at the Gladstone Inn & Suites at 6-p.m.

Meanwhile, the North Dakota Republican Party’s U.S. Senate candidate Rick Berg and Congressional candidate Kevin Cramer will also be making campaign swings through the state through Monday.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A former North Dakota Republican chairman
says a court decision isn’t likely to cause a burst of Election Day
campaigning.
Gary Emineth filed a federal lawsuit to challenge a North Dakota
law that bans campaigning on Election Day. On Wednesday a federal
judge blocked the law from being enforced.

Emineth says the ruling means he’ll leave up his campaign yard
signs, and he’ll be doing some political advocacy on Election Day.
Normally that wouldn’t be legal.
But Emineth doesn’t expect the ruling will bring about a lot of
Election Day campaigning during this election.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says he’ll now be asking the
Legislature to repeal the law that bans Election Day campaigning.
He says instead, lawmakers could restrict campaigning near a
polling place.

KILLDEER, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota has its first highway
roundabout near Killdeer.
Dunn County Sheriff Don Rockvoy says the roundabout at the intersection of state highways 200 and 22 is working as designed.
State transportation officials built the roundabout to better
circulate the more than 8,000 vehicles that go through the busy oil
patch intersection daily.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota is on pace to eclipse last
year’s road fatality total, and Highway Patrol troopers hope they
can do something about it.
There have been 134 fatalities on state roads so far this year, compared with 148 for all of last year.
The Highway Patrol says in a statement that it is stepping up
enforcement from now until the end of the year. The effort involves
troopers working overtime to increase visibility and safety as
winter and holiday travel approaches.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The operator of Scheels Arena in Fargo has
finalized a deal with creditors to slash the facility’s debt.
Metro Sports Foundation treasurer Bruce Furness says the arena’s debt from $23 million to $6.8 million. He says it was made possible by $8.5 million from a donor who has chosen to remain anonymous, banks agreeing to reduce their share of the debt and private lenders forgiving loans.
Furness says the arena’s creditors view it as an asset to the
community and want to keep it from failing.

Arena General Manager Jon Kram says the facility will turn a modest profit after the deal kicks in at the end of the year.
The nonprofit Metro Sports Foundation runs the arena owned by
the Fargo Park District.

In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) – They’re the kind of numbers the Obama campaign
will welcome in the final days of the battle for the White House.
Figures released today show that new unemployment claims are down,
worker productivity is up, auto sales and retail sales are rising,
and consumer confidence is at the highest level since a year before
President Barack Obama took office.

The unemployment numbers for October will be released Tuesday.

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) – Mitt Romney is continuing to attack
President Barack Obama’s business policies, including his
suggestion to MSNBC this week that he would create a secretary of
business. Obama, meanwhile, is arguing that Romney is not the agent
of change he claims to be.

Aides to Romney are conceding that Hurricane Sandy slowed his momentum.

They still say their internal polling shows Romney ahead in some battleground states — but they’re not voicing as much confidence in Ohio or Wisconsin.

Romney will campaign in both states in the coming days.

NEW YORK (AP) – There’s some rare good news for New Yorkers in
the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.

Con Edison says it is on track to restore power by Saturday in Manhattan, where a quarter of a million homes and businesses are without power.

Downtown Manhattan, which includes the financial district, Chinatown and Little Italy, is still mostly shuttered.

People are roaming the streets, looking for food, power and a hot shower.

NEW YORK (AP) – Three days after Sandy slammed the mid-Atlantic
and the Northeast, the U.S. death toll has climbed to more than 80.
More than 4.6 million homes and businesses are still without power.
Airports, rail lines, buses and even New York’s subway have
reopened, but most aren’t at normal capacity — leaving huge lines
and gridlocked traffic.

Amtrak isn’t yet serving New York City, but it has pumped water out of one Hudson River tunnel.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – An arts and craft supply company says part
of the new federal health care law should be blocked because it
requires coverage for morning-after and week-after birth control
pills.

At a court hearing today in Oklahoma, lawyers for Hobby
Lobby said it violates the religious beliefs of the store owners.

A government lawyer disagreed and said the nation has a compelling
interest in mandating insurance coverage for contraceptives.

The judge isn’t yet ruling on the request for an injunction.
