Jamestown (CSi) A 39 year old Jamestown man accused of a number of thefts committed while working for a plumbing and heating company was sentenced Thursday in Southeast District Court in Jamestown.
Chad Lee Gourneau, pleaded guilty to the charges, three Class C felony charges of theft of property worth more than $1,000, and two Class B misdeneanor counts of theft of property valued at less than $500.
He was accused of taking property from five different homes in Jamestown.
Most of the property stolen was collectible coins and jewelry. Some of the property is still in the possession of Jamestown Police and has not been claimed by the owners.
Judge Jay Schmitz sentenced Gourneau, to one year and one day in prison, at the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with credit for 18 days served. The jail time is to be served concurrently with the sentence he received on other charges.
Schmitz said the intent of the sentence was for Gourneau to make restitution.
A restitution hearing will be scheduled in the next month to determine the amount owed to victims in the most recent charges.
Gourneau previously pleaded guilty to burglary, a Class B felony, and theft of property, a Class B misdemeanor, in related incidents. He was sentenced to one year and one day in the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with three months suspended. He was also ordered to pay $3,800 in restitution.
Property seized from Gourneau but not claimed by any victim could be sold and the proceeds used to offset the restitution owed.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Highway Patrol has identified three men who died in a crash earlier this week in the North Dakota oil patch.
The collision on Highway 200 Wednesday evening killed 39-year-old Kobby Sowah, of Florida, and 21-year-old Ian Everett and 21-year-old Donavan Puga, both of Idaho. All three men were in a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Sowah.
The patrol says the pickup failed to yield at an intersection and was struck by a semitrailer towing a trailer. The semi driver was not hurt.
The crash was the second triple fatality in western North Dakota in less than two weeks. Three teenagers from Ray were killed on U.S. Highway 2 last week after colliding with a semitrailer.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of forcing women into prostitution in the North Dakota oil patch is facing new charges in federal court.
Keith Graves, also known as Chris Woods, had pleaded not guilty earlier to six counts of sex trafficking by force or coercion. An updated indictment charges him with distribution of methamphetamine, possession of a control substance, and an additional sex trafficking count.
Graves is accused of running a prostitution ring out of area hotels and raping a woman he was recruiting multiple times.
Graves was one of the main subjects of “The Overnighters,” a documentary that follows a Lutheran pastor who opened up his Williston church and parking lot to oil workers with nowhere to stay.
A federal public defender could not be immediately reached for comment.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Mandan man has been charged in federal court with attempted sex trafficking of children.
Travis Koropatnicki made his initial appearance on Thursday.
Court documents allege that Koropatnicki attempted to use a girl he believed to be 14 years old in a commercial sex act in September. Police say he was actually talking to an undercover officer.
He had initially been charged in state court, but those charges were dismissed in lieu of federal charges.
Koropatnicki was released from custody following a detention hearing Thursday. He is being electronically monitored and there are a number of conditions he must follow.
It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – President Barack Obama says this weekend’s 50th anniversary commemoration of historic civil rights marches is as much about stirring young people to change as it is about honoring yesterday’s legends. Obama is leading Saturday’s tribute in Selma, Alabama. That’s where 50 years ago police beat scores of people who were marching from to protest their lack of voting rights. Obama told students at a historically black college in South Carolina Friday that Selma was possible because of the young people who stubbornly insisted on justice.
WASHINGTON (AP) – CIA Director John Brennan is ordering one of the most sweeping reorganizations in the spy agency’s history. He says the overhaul is designed to make top managers more accountable, and to boost the CIA’s cyber capabilities. And, he says, it’s supposed to close gaps in espionage that were made worse by a focus on counterterrorism in recent years.
MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Travelers are running into more weather-related problems on Kentucky highways Friday — but not like the snarls that left motorists stranded for nearly 24 hours after a two-foot snowstorm that ended yesterday. State highway officials say there have been crashes involving tractor-trailer rigs Friday morning on slick highways. One accident backed up traffic for nine miles before it was cleared.
CLEVELAND (AP) – The father of an Ohio high school student who died last year is charging that Amazon.com and distributors of caffeine powder didn’t provide enough warnings about the dangers of the supplement. Logan Stiner was just days from graduating high school when he was found unresponsive in the family’s home near Cleveland. A coroner found his death was caused by acute caffeine toxicity. The caffeine in his system was about 23 times greater than in a typical soda or coffee drink. His father filed a lawsuit Friday.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Idaho authorities are telling movie theaters serving alcohol that they can’t provide drinks during showings of the erotic blockbuster “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The Idaho State Police’s Alcohol Beverage Control has contacted at least two theaters showing the popular R-rated flick, ordering them to comply with a law banning businesses from serving booze to people watching sexually explicit films. One theater owner tells the Idaho Statesman newspaper that there are some PG-13 films that would also qualify as explicit.
