On July 6, Klein was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-94 near Crystal Springs and struck a vehicle head-on. This vehicle was driven by Aaron Deutscher of West Fargo. Deutscher, his wife Allison and daughter Brielle were killed as a result of the crash. Klein also died in the crash.

The Highway Patrol says, fifty-one percent of all 2012 North Dakota fatal crashes have been attributed to alcohol. The Patrol says, all alcohol-related crashes and fatalities are preventable.

shot up 52 percent during January, February and March when compared

to the same three months a year ago.

billion in taxable sales and purchases during the first quarter.

Fong says almost all of North Dakota’s economic sectors are

growing.

Fong says of North Dakota’s largest cities, 40 of them showed

double- or triple-digit percentage growth during the quarter.

North Dakota already has one of the nation’s lowest unemployment

rates. Fong says: “We are growing at a level beyond what we could

have expected.”

In the regional taxable sales and purchases for the first quarter of 2012

Jamestown Boardings in June 2012, were 175, compared to 417 in June 2011.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo woman is accused of exposing her
1-year-old child to methamphetamine.
A police report says Amber Marie Helps was keeping the child in
a filthy apartment with rotting food and sacks of garbage.
Tests on the youngster’s hair showed both she and Helps had been
exposed to meth.

Helps has been charged with child neglect and abuse. The
felony charge carries a possible five-year prison term.

The police report says Helps’ apartment also had exposed
electrical wires that would be dangerous to a curious child.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck police cited two teenage boys for breaking into a vehicle after one of the boys’ mother turned in a handgun she found in her son’s dresser.

Police say a woman brought a handgun to the police department Tuesday night.

The woman’s 13-year-old son told officers that he and a 14-year-old boy saw the gun in a center console of an unlocked vehicle.

Police say the boys contradicted each other on who actually took the gun.

Police say the gun had not been reported stolen, and officers have not found its owner.

ROLLA, N.D. (AP) – The family of a 6-year-old Rolla boy say they’re angry about a prosecutor’s handling of a case involving the child.

The family says the boy was sexually assaulted. An attorney for Aaron LaVallie (lah-VAL’-ee) of Rolla denies that, and says the family is vindictive and “berserk.”

Attorney Lynn Boughey (BOO’-ee) says LaVallie pleaded guilty to child neglect and abuse as part of a plea agreement with Rolette County State’s Attorney Lisa Gibbens.

Boughey says LaVallie admitted to using drugs in front of the boy, but LaVallie insists there was no sexual assault.

LaVallie was given a suspended sentence last week and sentenced to probation.

The boy’s family wants the Rolette County Commission to ask the governor to oust Gibbens from office.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Supreme Court has ordered a
Milnor attorney suspended for practicing law for three years.
Trent Mahler must pay $2,500 in restitution to two clients and
$500 in disciplinary expenses.
Mahler’s suspension begins Aug. 15. He already doesn’t have a
law license, because he was late in taking continued legal
education classes.
The Supreme Court’s order says Mahler took a payment from a
couple to represent them in a water drainage dispute.
Records in the case show Mahler didn’t talk to his clients
promptly and charged the couple a higher hourly rate than he said
he would.
A disciplinary panel that considered the case recommended that
Mahler be disbarred.
The Supreme Court’s order says disbarment would have been too
harsh. But it says a lengthy suspension is warranted.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Bureauof Land Management says its most recent sale of oil and gas leases the Dakotas totaled more than $3.3 million.

BLM says Serka Services LLC of Vienna, Va., had the highest bid in Tuesday’s sale: $880,000 for an 80-acre U.S. Forest Service parcel located in North Dakota’s Billings County.

Serka Services also had the highest per-acre bid of $11,000 for the same parcel.

BLM says 112 parcels totaling more than 48,000 acres were offered and all received bids.  Nineteen parcels were located in North Dakota and 93 parcels in South Dakota.

Competitive oil and gas lease sales are conducted at the BLM’s Montana state office in Billings. Money from the sales is shared with states and counties. All leases are issued for a 10-year term.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – An engineering company that’s working
with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has filed plans to open another Walmart
Supercenter store in west Grand Forks.
City planner Ryan Brooks says the city’s zoning commission will
consider the request in August.
Wal-Mart wants to build an 181,000-square-foot store on a
19-acre site at Gateway and North 58th Street in Grand Forks.
Chamber of Commerce President Barry Wilfarht tells the Grand
Forks Herald the area doesn’t have many retail stores. And he hopes
the proposed store will help draw other businesses to the north end
of the city.
Wilfarht says another big-box store will attract Canadians.
Canadian shoppers recently became able to buy more goods on North
Dakota shopping trips without having to pay tax when they come
home.

In world and national news…

SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) – Israel is once again accusing Iran of being behind an attack on Israelis outside their country — this time, in Bulgaria, where a bus carrying young Israelis exploded in a resort.

Bulgarian officials say at least six people were killed. Israel’s prime minister says “all signs point to Iran,” though he offered no evidence of that. Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli will “react strongly.”

Iran, in the past, has accused Israel of being behind deadly attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists. Israel and others have alleged that Iran has carried out reprisal missions.

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. officials say Wednesday’s attack on a high-level government meeting in Syria could mark a turning point in the conflict there.

The attack killed at least three top Syrian officials, including the country’s defense minister.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says it shows that Bashar Assad is losing control of his country.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Ann Romney says her husband’s campaign is “not quite there yet” on a running mate.

She tells ABC News that Mitt Romney hasn’t yet decided who’ll be his vice presidential candidate, after discussions last week that continued into the weekend.

A Romney aide is leading a search that is believed to include Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

EVANSDALE, Iowa (AP) – A company that collects trash in northeastern Iowa says it’s separating the trash from a city where two young girls disappeared, so that investigators can check it.

A spokeswoman says authorities asked the company Monday to start dumping trash from Evansdale homes and businesses in a separate area.

The two missing girls were last seen Friday at their grandmother’s house. Their bicycles were found at a nearby lake.

HOUSTON (AP) – Jeremy Lin says he’ll never forget this past year in New York — but he’s moving on to Houston.

The point guard who emerged as an unexpected star and turned the Knicks into winners in February has issued a statement through the Houston Rockets, which signed him after the Knicks decided not to match Houston’s three-year, $25 million offer.

The Rockets had let him go in December, but Lin says he was impressed with their aggressive bid to get him back.
