KCSi-T.V. News Nov 6, 2012) — Voter turn out for the November 6, 2012 elections was steady.

Voters in Stutsman County were casting ballots at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Voters in Medina, Kensal, and Pingree may also cast ballots in their towns.

At 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Stutsman County C.O.O. Casey Bradley said about 2,800 voters had cast ballots at the Civic Center.

He expected about 5,000 voters to cast ballots.

Bradley said 1,800 absentee ballots were counted at the Stutsman County Courthouse, and more may come in and be counted if they are mailed with a postmark no later than Monday November 5, 2012.

About 2,600 voters in Stutsman County took advantage of Early Voting.

Election worker Jim Thompson said when the polls at the Civic Center opened at 7-a.m., there was a sizable line, and over 100 voters cast their ballots in a 15 minute time frame.

It was noted that there was a good turnout of college students.

The polls close at 7-p.m.

About 75 people lined up outside the Bismarck Civic Center early
Tuesday.

Twenty-six-year-old salesman Kurt Triplett was among them.
He says worries about the economy brought him out to vote.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The auditor of a northwest North Dakota
oil boom town says a steady stream of voters is flocking to the
polls.
Ray Auditor Kim Steffan says dozens of people made it to the
polls within an hour after they opened Tuesday.
Steffan says the town’s population has jumped from 500 to more
than 1,200 in the past four years because of the oil boom in the
region. She says more longtime locals came to the polls Tuesday
morning but she expects many of the new oil workers in town to vote
after they get off work.
Thousands of people have moved to North Dakota to work in the
state’s booming oil patch. And both Democrats and Republicans have
attempted to attract their votes.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota residents have broken a
record for early voting for the second straight presidential
election.
About 130,000 people had already voted in the state before
polling locations even opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday, smashing the
record set in 2008 by about 10,000 votes.
About 90,000 of this year’s early voters cast ballots by mail.
Another 40,000 visited early voting precincts.
Historically, presidential elections draw far more voters than
midterm elections. President Barack Obama did not carry heavily
Republican North Dakota in 2008 and is not expected to this year.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Many North Dakota candidates say they
won’t be campaigning Tuesday even though a state law that bars it
has been put on hold.
A federal judge ruled last week that North Dakota’s law against
campaigning on Election Day cannot be enforced on Tuesday. In past
elections, the law has deterred candidates from buying Election Day
ads and leaving up campaign signs in supporters’ yards.
Democratic state Senate candidate John Grabinger, of Jamestown,
says he’ll still take the day off. Grabinger says that if
candidates haven’t made their mark yet, campaigning on Election Day
isn’t going to help.
Along with state legislative races, voters will be deciding a
high-profile U.S. Senate race between Republican Rep. Rick Berg and
Democrat Heidi Heitkamp, a U.S. House race, and the governor’s
race.

STEELE, N.D. (AP Nov 6, 2012) – A Texas man has pleaded not guilty to

burning down a motel in North Dakota and putting people’s lives in

danger.

Fifty-one-year-old Allen Thomas is charged with one count of

arson and 18 counts of endangering by fire. All of the felony

charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison upon

conviction.

The Houston man was staying at the Lone Steer Motel in Steele at

the time of the Aug. 12 fire, which didn’t hurt anyone but

displaced about two dozen people.

Authorities allege that Thomas used a cigarette lighter to ignite a mattress because he was upset that the hotel owners had helped his girlfriend after the two had argued.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Another of the 11 people charged in
what authorities say was a deadly synthetic drug ring in
northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota has pleaded
guilty.

25-year-old Dillon Breen, of Grand Forks, admitted conspiring with
Andrew Spofford and others to distribute hallucinogens made by
Spofford, including synthetic drugs blamed in the deaths of two
teenagers last summer.
Breen faces up to 20 years in prison but prosecutors will
recommend the judge hand down a lighter sentence on Feb. 4.
Only two of the 11 people charged in the case have not pleaded
guilty in pre-trial deals with prosecutors. Spofford pleaded guilty
in the case last month.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A wind tower manufacturer in North
Dakota has shut down.
West Fargo’s economic development director says the future of
the DMI Industries Inc. plant isn’t known because officials with
the Texas-based company that recently bought the plant aren’t
immediately revealing their plans.
     Parent Otter Tail Corp. is selling DMI plants in West Fargo;
Tulsa, Okla.; and Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, to Dallas-based
Trinity Industries for $20 million. The deal and the pending
shutdown were announced earlier this fall.
The West Fargo DMI plant that closed employed 216 people.
West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern says he hopes the plant’s new owners will
resume operations soon.

In world and national news…

CLEVELAND (AP) – It’s a final, frantic round of campaigning
Tuesday as voters decide who will occupy the White House for the next
four years.

Making one last pitch to Ohio voters, Mitt Romney and
Paul Ryan were in Cleveland Tuesday — and so was Vice President
Biden, on a surprise stop.

The two Republicans are also stopping in Pittsburgh. President Barack Obama is spending the day in Chicago, reaching out to swing-state voters on the phones.

UNDATED (AP) – Sporadic problems are being reported today at
polling places around the country.

One voting machine in Pennsylvania lit up for Mitt Romney when a voter pressed the button for President Barack Obama.

In Florida, a robocall glitch recycled calls intended for yesterday — telling voters they had until “7 p.m. tomorrow” to vote.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – Puerto Ricans are deciding whether
they want to change their ties with the U.S.

They’ve got three alternatives: become the 51st U.S. state, independence, or
“sovereign free association,” a designation that would give more
autonomy for the territory of 4 million people. They don’t get to
vote for president.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – Police say a gunman who shot four
co-workers today at a Fresno, California food service company is in
extremely critical condition after turning the gun on himself.

One worker is dead and three others are wounded, two critically. Police
say the suspect is a parolee with an extensive criminal history.

WASHINGTON (AP) – House lawmakers have issued a subpoena for the
director of the pharmacy linked to the deadly meningitis outbreak,
after he reportedly declined to appear before Congress next week.
The Energy and Commerce Committee says Barry Cadden, co-founder of
New England Compounding Center, has indicated he would not attend a
hearing scheduled for Nov. 14. More than 400 people have been
sickened by contaminated steroid shots distributed by the pharmacy,
and 30 have died.
