Dalrymple defeated Democratic state Senator Ryan Taylor yesterday
to win a four-year term. Dalrymple, who says he’s done a good job
of balancing tax cuts with spending on public works, took over from
former Governor John Hoeven two years ago.
North Dakota Democratic governor candidate
Ryan Taylor says he believes his ideas hit home with people, but
not enough to put him over the top in a state with a booming
economy.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Republican Kevin Cramer has won North
Dakota’s lone U.S. House seat on his third try.
Cramer defeated Democrat Pam Gulleson on Tuesday to keep the

COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (AP) – Voters in eastern North Dakota’s Griggs
County have defeated a $2 million bond issue to build a new
courthouse.
The measure on Tuesday’s ballot got support from only 49 percent of

proposals that were more expensive also were defeated.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Voters in North Dakota’s capital city have

to help pay for the $90 million project.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s newest congressman is

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota voters have rejected a

jail and a $2,000 fine.
NORTH DAKOTA POLL TAX
North Dakota voters abolish never-used voting tax
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota voters have repealed a voting
tax that was in the state constitution but never collected.

burning down a motel in North Dakota and putting people’s lives in
danger.

arson and 18 counts of endangering by fire. All of the felony
charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison upon
conviction.
The Houston man was staying at the Lone Steer Motel in Steele at

T25-FINAL SCORE
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – There was a college football game involving
a team ranked in the AP Top-25 last night. Jahwan Edwards scored
untouched on a 15-yard run around left end with 1:43 left to give
Ball State to a 34-27 victory over No. 23 Toledo. That ends the
Rockets’ eight-game winning streak. Toledo is 8-2.
Keith Wenning completed 29 of 42 passes for 280 yards and three
touchdowns, but was intercepted three times for Ball State, which
improved to 7-3.
NHL LABOR…
NEW YORK (AP) – The NHL and the locked-out players’ association
have agreed to return to the bargaining table for more talks today.
Negotiations between the two sides lasted deep into the night
yesterday. The lockout has already forced the cancellation of 327
regular-season games, including the outdoor Winter Classic in
Michigan.
College Basketball…
SAN DIEGO (AP) – The season-opening basketball game between No.
9 Syracuse and No. 20 San Diego State on the flight deck of the
decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Midway has been moved from
Friday night to Sunday afternoon due to a strong chance of rain and
wind in the San Diego area. San Diego State was scheduled to play
San Diego Christian on Sunday night, but that game has been moved
to Tuesday night.
TENNIS-ATP FINAL
LONDON (AP) – Roger Federer opened his quest for a seventh
season-ending tour title, looking like the man to beat again. The
17-time Grand Slam champion won his record 40th match at the
tournament, defeating Janko Tipsarevic (YAHN’-koh
tihp-SAYR’-oh-vihch) 6-3, 6-1 in his opening Group B match.
In world and national news…
CHICAGO (AP) – A triumphant President Barack Obama looked ahead
to another divided Congress and told supporters that problems stir
controversy but the arguments “are a mark of our liberty.” Obama
accepted victory this morning in Chicago, telling supporters the
“best is yet to come.” Republican Mitt Romney conceded he had
lost, declaring that “this election is over, but our principles
endure.”
WASHINGTON (AP) – The next four years could be a tall order for
President Barack Obama. Among his challenges: slowing global
growth, U.S. companies still too anxious to expand much and
improving an economy burdened by high unemployment. On the plus
side, signs suggest that the next four years will coincide with a
vastly healthier economy than the previous four, which overlapped
the Great Recession.
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Republicans saw only limited results despite a
big-spending campaign to gain control of more governors’ offices
across the country. They managed only to grab North Carolina for
the first time in two decades. Democrats fended off GOP challengers
in governorship races in Missouri, New Hampshire, West Virginia,
Delaware and Vermont.
NEW YORK (AP) – Dread is growing again for residents of New York
and New Jersey who were flooded out by Superstorm Sandy. They’re
waiting as a weaker storm spins toward them and threatens to
inundate their homes again or simply leave them shivering in the
dark for even longer. In the wake of Sandy, the Federal Emergency
Management Agency says 95,000 people are eligible for emergency
housing assistance in New York and New Jersey.
BRUSSELS (AP) – The European Union is downgrading its
predictions for the 27-country bloc’s economy, warning it will
decline further and recover more slowly than previously forecast as
it struggles to resolve the debt crisis. The European Commission,
the executive arm of the EU, confirmed its prediction that the 17
countries that use the euro will slide into recession this year.
