Jamestown (CSi)  The Jamestown Rescue Squad and Jamestown Rural Fire Department were called to Highway 20  Mile Marker 6 about 10:20-a.m., Tuesday, to a tanker rollover resulting in a puncture of the tank which was leaking fuel.

The tanker driver was removed from the vehicle, no official confirmation of that person’s condition was immediately available.  The highway was open to one lane southbound until the roadway is cleaned up and the vehicle removed and is posted.

The  rural fire figheters were on scene, and reports say the diesel spill was contained in a 100 foot area in the east ditch of the highway, and that Central Valley Health was being contacted concerning the hazardous waste.

The one unit cab/tanker was being uprighted for removal late Tuesday morning.

The spilled  fuel cleanup will be handled by outside agencies, later Tuesday.

Also responding to the scene was  the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, and Jamestown Are Ambulance Service.

 

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police reports charges are pending against two individuals,accused of robbing a Jamestown gas and convenience store early Monday morning.

Superpumper employees along Highway 281 South in Jamestown called police at around 12:38 AM.

The clerk reported a man wearing a bandana and heavy jacket entered the store, pushed past them and took an undisclosed amount of cash from a safe under the counter and fled out the back door of the store.

No weapons were involved.

After reviewing surveillance camera  footage with the manager authorities identified the suspect as a former employee, and analyzed the getaway vehicle.

Police went to the apartment of former employee 26 year-old Josh Lamb and his roommate and former co-worker 23 year-old Mark Shannon and found the stolen cash and clothing matching the description of the alleged robber.

Jamestown Police said  it was determined Lamb went into the store and took the money and Shannon drove the car, a 2000 maroon Chevrolet Malibu. 

Both are being held in the Stutsman County Corrections Center awaiting formal charges.

Dickinson  (AP, Dickinson Press)  Three people were injured including two Jamestown  women,  in a two-vehicle head-on  accident Sunday afternoon 15 miles east of Dickinson on Interstate 94.  The North Dakota Highway Patrol, reports, an eastbound 2014 Nissan car, driven by 47 year old  Laurie Krebsbach,  and a  passenger 67 year old Shirley Aanderud, both of Jamestown, crossed a median and collided head-on with a 2006 Pontiac passenger car driven by34 year old  Cindy Sabrosky, of Dickinson. Both vehicles entered the north ditch, where they each came to a rest.

Krebsbach and Aanderud were transported to CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson. Sabrosky, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.

The accident closed down I-94 for about 15 minutes. Dickinson and Richardton ambulance services and fire departments, the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and Valley Med Life Flight also responded to the accident, which authorities say remains under investigation.

Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into  an incident early Sunday morning when a Pingree woman drove a car into Pipestem Lake about 2-a.m..

Deputy Sgt. Damian Hoyt says the LEC dispatch was notified by the OnStar service concerning a vehicle that had gone into Pipestem Lake, off  78th Avenue Southeast, between 30th and 31st Street Southeast.

Hoyt says 19 year old Taylor Uehran, of Pingree, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze car north on 78th Avenue Southeast.  20 year old Kelly Thomas, also of Pingree was a passenger in the car.

Hoyt says Uehran took a wrong turn and drove into Pipestem Lake.

The car went about 30 yards into the lake and was motionless in the water at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Uehran activated the OnStar button on the car, prior to both getting out of the car, and then swimming  about an eighth mile across the lake.

Hoyt says Uehran  put her cellphone in her teeth to keep it dry, and called 9-1-1 while swimming.

No injuries were reported.

The car was removed Sunday afternoon.

Hoyt said Uehran was cited for driving while under the influence of alcohol and Thomas was cited for minor in possession of alcohol.

The crash remains under investigation by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Jamestown (CSi)   The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a one car rollover accident at 1:45 p.m. Friday on I 94 two miles east of Jamestown caused over $10,000in damage, to a Honda Accord.

The patrol says 21 year old  Nathan Agwata, of  Minot, was driving  westbound when a bird struck the windshield. The car then veered into the median and when Agwata attempted to return the car to the road, the car slid across the westbound lanes into the ditch, holding a shallow amount of water, and rolled. The car came to rest on its wheels.

The patrol said Aswata and passenger 20 year old 20 year old Sebstine Nyanumba, also of Minot  were wearing  seat belts. Nyanumba sustained a minor hand cut.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the Honda.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

 

Valley City (CSi) With the Valley City permanent flood protection project, in the VCSU area. College Street closes starting  today May 26 from Seond Avenue Southeast to Third Avenue Southeast between the Rhodes Science Center and the bridge to the east.

Workers are making storm sewer and water main adjustments.

Jamestown (CSi) Benefits are scheduled for Shawn Durfee who was involved in a motorcycle-car accident in Jamestown that led to a below-the-knee amputation on his left leg.

The Individual Motorcycle Club and Dennis Barton from the FM Crusaders Motorcycle Club have set up a benefit bike ride that will be held June 6, 2015 and begins in Jamestown. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Corner Bar. The cost for the bike ride is $20 per driver and $10 for a passenger, and will begin at noon at the Corner Bar in Jamestown.

The route will be to Courtenay, Glenfield, Hannaford, Dazey and Sanborn before returning to the Corner Bar in Jamestown. A hog roast, a pool tournament and a live and silent auction have also been planned for that day.

On the afternoon of April 28, 2015, 40 year-old Shawn Durfee was struck by a car while driving his motorcycle on First Avenue North in Jamestown receiving extensive injuries to his left leg, wrist and thumbs.

After treatment in Jamestown, he was airlifted to a Fargo hospital where he has undergone several surgeries and many more will be required.

 

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Police say two people have died in a shooting at a Wal-Mart store in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
 
     Officers responded to reports of gunshots shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. Deputy Police Chief Mike Ferguson says officers discovered “multiple victims” inside the store, and that several of them were taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
 
     Police did not immediately release any details on the shooter but did say that they do not believe there is any further risk to the general public.
 
     The names of the two people who died were not immediately released.

 

 GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A weekend standoff in Grand Forks prompted the evacuation of guests at a hotel.
 
     Police say the incident began Saturday morning when the suspect allegedly threatened a person with a gun during a fight in the parking lot of the America’s Best Value Inn.
 
     The 49-year-old man then retreated to his hotel room and held police including a SWAT team at bay for about four hours. About a dozen other hotel guests were evacuated.
 
     The man surrendered after authorities used a stun grenade. He was arrested on a terrorizing charge. Formal charges are pending.

 

CASSELTON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a crop dusting plane crashed near a small eastern North Dakota airport after hitting a power line, injuring the pilot.
 
     The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 4:20 p.m. Monday in a farm field about a mile south of Casselton Airport. The agency says the 70-year-old pilot was taken by ambulance to a hospital, but did not disclose the pilot’s condition.
 
     The highway patrol says the plane was totaled. The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
 
     Casselton Airport is about 22 miles west of Fargo.

 

 

 WOLFORD, N.D. (AP) – A Rugby man is dead after a weekend pickup truck rollover west of Wolford.
 
     The Highway Patrol says the 23-year-old man lost control of the truck on state Highway 17 about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and the pickup rolled several times in the ditch.
 
     The man was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately identify him.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) is alerting North Dakota residents about scam artists claiming to be calling from his office.
 
     Stenehjem says people who get a call from someone claiming to be with his office and demanding they cooperate with a supposed Internal Revenue Service agent should hang up immediately.
 
     Stenehjem says the number on caller IDs might even appear that it is his office calling. He says that’s done through spoofing technology and is part of the scam.

 

 WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of trying to pass himself off as an FBI agent in the North Dakota oil patch is facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
 
     Sentencing for Steven Goldmann is scheduled Wednesday afternoon in Bismarck. He pleaded his case down to an illegal weapons charge after also being charged with four counts of impersonating an officer.
 
     Investigators say Goldmann regularly displayed a gun, holster, mace and badge, and showed up one day at a Williston coffee shop with a passenger who was handcuffed. The scam allegedly netted Goldmann free coffee, a government rate at a hotel and dog treats for his bogus K-9 unit.
 
     Goldmann had pleaded guilty to theft of services in Tennessee in 2013. Authorities say he conned several businesses out of money.

 

 MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Moisture issues have caused 26 ground lights to short out on the Mandan side of the Memorial Bridge over the Missouri River between that city and Bismarck.
 
     The lights are where flags are displayed. Mandan City Administrator Jim Neubauer says  new lights are being ordered, but it could be up to a month before they arrive and are installed.
 
     City of Bismarck electronics supervisor Paul Lies says his staff dealt with similar problems with the lights on the Bismarck side of the bridge. He says that after replacing the lights several times, staff designed a different, more reliable system.
 
     The new bridge opened in the fall of 2008.

 BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) – Police say a 15-year-old baseball player has died after being struck by a ball in the northern Minnesota city of Bemidji.
 
     The president of the Bemidji Youth Baseball League, Bruce Dahlin,says Zacharie Schaubhut lived in Des Moines, Iowa, but was living with his grandparents for the summer so he could play baseball in Bemidji.
 
     Police say the incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bemidji High School baseball field.
 
     Police say Zacharie was pitching and was struck by a ball that a batter hit. He died later at a hospital.

The Rockets shot 17-for-32 from 3-point range, with Harden hitting 7 of 11.

BALTIMORE (AP) – Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz (MAT’-us) has appealed his eight-game suspension from Major League Baseball for having a foreign substance on his arm during Saturday’s game in Miami. Matusz will continue to pitch until his appeal is heard. Marlins manager Dan Jennings asked umpire Paul Emmel to inspect Matusz’s right arm, and Emmel ejected the pitcher.

     UNDATED (AP) – Two people familiar with the situation tell The Associated Press that Tom Brady’s appeal won’t be heard by Wednesday’s 10-day deadline.
 
     The Patriots quarterback is appealing the four-game suspension he received from the NFL for his alleged role in the use of deflated footballs during the AFC championship game. Although the collective bargaining agreement calls for it to be heard within 10 days, the league and the players’ union can agree on delaying the hearing.
 
     The union asked Commissioner Roger Goodell to recuse himself from hearing the appeal because it said he lacked impartiality and would be called as a witness.

     PARIS (AP) – The Latest from the French Open:

 It was a tricky test, but Caroline Wozniacki passed it smoothly.
 
     The former top-ranked player from Denmark stopped Karin Knapp’s good run on clay this season with a 6-3, 6-0 win to reach the second round of the French Open.
 
     Knapp arrived in Paris on the back of her second career title at the Nuremberg Open last week and with an 8-2 record on clay. But she was no match for the fifth-seeded Wozniacki, who made it to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros five years ago.
 
     Wozniacki saved the only break point she faced in the first set and limited her mistakes to nine unforced errors.
 Petra Kvitova has made it through to the second round of the French Open after a tougher-than-expected struggle.

     BALTIMORE (AP) – Officials in Maryland say the cause of death of a 3-year-old boy is still under investigation despite completion of an initial autopsy. The boy was found dead on a park swing as his mother pushed him. Officials say more toxicology tests are needed as part of the ongoing investigation. They say the 24-year-old mother was still in the hospital as of yesterday. 
 
     NEW YORK (AP) – Charter Communications has officially announced its purchase of Time Warner Cable. Charter says it will spend $55.33 billion in a cash-and-stock deal that would instantly create one of the largest pay-television and broadband operators in the U.S. As part of the agreement, Charter will also buy Bright House Networks for more than $10 billion.
 
     BAGHDAD (AP) – A spokesman for Iraq’s Shiite militias says the counteroffensive against Islamic State militants in western Anbar province, including the capital, Ramadi, will use new weapons “that will surprise the enemy.” Ahmed al-Assadi, who is also a member of parliament, says the operation won’t last long and that Ramadi is surrounded on three sides by Iraqi troops backed by Shiite and Sunni paramilitary forces.
