Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office informs motorists that on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, 4th Ave SE, between 2nd St & 3rd St SE, will be closed to traffic, due to utility work. The work is expected to be completed on Thursday, June 4, 2015 contingent on weather conditions. The street is expected to be re-opened to traffic on Friday, June 5, 2015.
Motorists and other traffic should use extreme caution when entering road construction areas. The public should consider alternate routes if possible.
Update…
Oriska (CSi) The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports four indivisuals were injured after the driver fell asleep at the wheel on I-94 near Oriska Sunday about 3:07 p.m.
47 year-old Cynthia Moen of Fargo was traveling eastbound on I-94 operating a 2011 Toyota Rav4, when she fell asleep and drove into the median. The vehicle struck a culvert and landed on the westbound side of the median. The vehicle continued onto the paved portion and then back into the median. All four individuals had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Two individuals and one juvenile were transported to Mercy Hospital. They are listed as 80 year old Elaine Krogstad of Crookston, Minnesota, and 73 year old Sylvia Moen, of Crookston.
Sylvian Moen was later transported to Sanford Health in Fargo for non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
The Juvenile was not identified in the report.
Assisting at the scene were the Barnes County sheriff’s Department, Valley City Fire department, Barnes County Ambulance.
Jamestown (CSi) The Two Rivers Activity Center early and absentee voting ends today and will begin the official vote process tomorrow in Jamestown.
On Tuesday the vote takes place to use a 1 percent city sales tax to help fund the construction and beginning operations of the $28.6 million facility
As on Monday morning 656 early votes have been cast.
The polls are open June 2nd at the Jamestown Civic Center from 7 am to 7 pm. A canvassing session will be June 8th to verify the ballots.
Jamestown (CSi) On Friday the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s once again, increased the release from Jamestown Dam from 250 cfs, to 300 cfs.
Spokesman, Bob Martin in Jamestown says the increase stems from the level in the flood storage pool, not dropping as fast as officials had hoped.
Martin says, it’s anticipated, pending any significant rainfall, that the flood storage pool should be evacuated by June 3, 2015. At that time the Jamestown Dam release is anticipated to tamper off.
Meanwhile he says, also next week, the Corps plans to start the release from Pipestem Dam, with at this time, an unknown amount.
No release has been made yet this year from Pipestem Dam.
Jamestown (CSi) Registrations are running high for the 8th Annual Running of the Pink will be held on Saturday June 6, 2015, at 9-a.m., starting at ending R.M. Stoudt in Jamestown.
Spokesperson Tara Kapp says as of Friday May 29, around 400 registrations have been received possibly heading to a record number of around 500, by the day of the event.
Registration is: Adults $25, Youth 12 and under, and seniors over 60, $20.
Proceeds to to help fund breast & cervical cancer screenings through the local Women’s Way Resource Fund & the Jamestown Regional Medical Center Foundation.
The event offers participants the opportunity to choose from a 5K Run/Walk, and a 10K Run. Prizes will be awarded for the Largest Family, and Largest Business team participating.
She noted that family reunions have been held in conjunction with the “Running,” pointing out that one family had 40 participants.

Jamestown (CSi) The James River Fire Fighters Association, will host the North Dakota Fire Fighters Association State Convention in Jamestown June 4th –6th 2015. The regional organization is an association of nine area fire departments.
Jamestown Rural Fire Fighter, Brian Paulson says highlights of the convention includes the fire fighters parade, a memorial ceremony for those who have passed on in the last year, and participation in the Stutsman Relay for Life on June 5th.
He says the memorial service will be at the Jamestown Civic Center, on Friday at 8:45 a.m., where the names will be read.
On Friday evening starting at 5-p.m., the parade, featuring “Vivian The Pink Fire Truck,” and the Aberdeen Pipes & Drum Corps, will leave the west Civic Center parking lot, and travel east on Third Street Northeast, up the stadium hill to the University of Jamestown Taylor Stadium parking lot.
The parade will do one lap around the stadium track to honor an Association past-president who passed away this last year from cancer.
The fire truck will also be present at the R.M. Stoudt Running of the Pink event on Saturday morning.
Another feature of the state convention is a fire fighters golf scramble on Thursday in Carrington.
(CSi) State Senator Larry Robinson of Valley City received the North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ Walt Odegaard Leadership Award during the Nonprofit Leadership Conference May 27, 2015 in Fargo.
The Walt Odegaard Leadership Award is given to an individual with more than 15 years of leadership experience who has made a difference by strengthening North Dakota and its nonprofit sector through her long-term commitment to leadership, volunteerism and philanthropy.
Robinson has been executive director of the Valley City State University Foundation since its inception in 1996. During his time as executive director, the foundation has increased student scholarships to more than $1 million each academic year. With the establishment of the Challenge Grant Program in 2013, the foundation has matched $1 million in appropriated funds with $2 million in private funds to add $3 million to the foundation’s assets.
Robinson has also served in the North Dakota Senate since 1989, where he has supported legislation providing grants to foundations affiliated with North Dakota institutes of learning. He has also sponsored numerous bills which would support the nonprofit sector through grants and income tax credits.

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Northd Dakota Highway Ptrol reports that the 17-year-old who escaped from the North Dakota Youth Correctional Center in Mandan on Saturday is in custody.
Sunday night, the Mandan Police Department received a tip that Malachi Redroad was near a business on Memorial Highway in Mandan. Mandan Police officers and Highway Patrol troopers searched the area and located Redroad. He was taken into custody without incident.
Redroad and another Youth Correctional Center resident assaulted two guards during their escape. The second resident was taken into custody shortly after the escape. The condition of the guards is not being released.
The case remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – West Fargo police say a man and woman have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
Authorities went to a West Fargo home early Sunday after they were asked to go there to check on a woman. From outside, they saw a man and woman on the lower level of the house, and both appeared to be dead. Police say they had been shot.
Police say the case seems to be a murder-suicide, but the investigation is ongoing.
The bodies have been sent to Grand Forks for autopsy. Additional details are not expected to be released until Monday.
FAIRMOUNT, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say two men have been killed in a rollover crash in Richland County, near the South Dakota border.
It happened Sunday on a county road, nine miles southwest of Fairmount.
The Highway Patrol says both men were ejected from a car when it landed on its top in a drainage ditch. Troopers say the bodies were swept away by the current.
The patrol says one man was found a mile from the crash scene and the other man was found a half mile away.
The names of the victims have not been released.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a fire scorched about 10 acres of land southeast of Bismarck.
The Bismarck Rural Fire Department says a landowner had done two “controlled burns” on his property Saturday morning and thought the fires were out by noon.
But the fire rekindled, prompting the landowner to call 911 shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday night.
Firefighters put out the blaze by 9:30 p.m.
Authorities say no one was injured and no structures were burned.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck man has been charged with reckless endangerment after allegedly shooting a crossbow bolt into a neighbor’s yard. The 56-year-old man was arrested last week. Police say a 34-year-old woman told officers she was in her yard with her dog when the neighbor shot the crossbow in her direction.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Officials around North Dakota have started surveillance activity for the West Nile virus.
State Health Department officials say activities include reporting and testing of sick horses and dead birds, trapping and testing of mosquitoes, and monitoring of illness in people.
State health officials have been monitoring the mosquito-borne virus since 2002 and cases have been reported in every county in North Dakota.
Last year, there were 23 West Nile virus cases in humans and one death.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A woman accused of driving the vehicle during a drive-by shooting on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation is set to be sentenced in federal court.
Authorities say Morgan Williams was behind the wheel when Michael Mitzel fired shots into a residence in Mandaree last August. There were no injuries.
Williams pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and terrorizing. Her sentencing is scheduled Monday morning in Bismarck.
Authorities say Williams and Mitzel tried to cover up the crime by hiding the shotgun and selling the vehicle used during the shooting.
Court documents show that Mitzel knew the occupants of the house, but did not know if they were there at the time of the shooting. He’s scheduled for sentencing in October.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Several North Dakota museums are offering free admission this summer to active duty military personnel and their families. The Blue Star Museum program is available from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Mercer County Museum, Gateway to Science, the Plains Art Museum, the National Buffalo Museum, Prairie Village Museum and Fort Buford State Historic Site are participating.

Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown has announced that it has named Sean Johnson as the new Athletic Director following the recent retirement of Lawrie Paulson.
Sean Johnson was selected from a highly qualified candidate pool. Johnson was previously Director of Athletics at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. Johnson has over 30 years of experience in university athletics. Prior to Johnson’s position as Director of Athletics at ASU, he served as Senior Director of Athletics at University of North Dakota, Associate Director of Athletics at Texas A&M, Associate Director of Athletics at New Mexico State University, and Assistant Athletics Director at University of North Texas.
Johnson will begin at the University of Jamestown on June 24th. President Robert S. Badal stated, “We are very pleased to announce that Sean Johnson will be leading the Jimmies as our new Athletic Director. Sean’s background as AD at Angelo State and his previous experience at UND as Associate Director have prepared him well for a growing athletic department at UJ. He has brought similar experiences to each of the communities he has touched in past years.

DOVER, Del. (AP) – Jimmie Johnson continued his string of success at Dover International Speedway by winning the Fed-Ex 400, finishing just ahead of Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Kasey Kahne (kayn). Johnson led the final 23 laps and became the fifth NASCAR driver with at least 10 Sprint Cup victories at the same track. He leads the circuit with four wins this year.

DETROIT (AP) – Sebastian Bourdais (bohr-DAY’) finished first in the second of two IndyCar weekend races in Detroit. The race was shortened from 70 laps to 68 because of a two-hour time limit. The winner of the first race on Saturday was Carlos Munoz, who finished last in the second race.

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) – Injured forward Kevin Love says he will exercise his option to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers next season. The former All-Star suffered a severe shoulder injury in the final game of the first round playoff series with Boston. Love averaged 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds as a first-year Cavalier this season.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) – The New Orleans Pelicans made it official late Saturday, announcing the hiring of Golden State assistant coach Alvin Gentry to be their new head coach. He replaces Monty Williams, who was fired despite guiding the team to the final Western Conference playoff berth.
Gentry will continue to serve as the Golden State Warriors’ assistant coach through the NBA Finals. He has served as a head coach four times in the NBA, compiling a career record of 335-370.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The National Security Agency is in day one without the authority to do bulk collection of Americans’ telephone data as the Senate prepares to debate a House bill overhauling the process that Senators rejected eight days ago. It’s the result of an unusual Sunday Senate session which was blocked from extending surveillance authority by Republican Rand Paul who opposes bulk data collection. The earliest the Senate could vote on the House bill is tomorrow.
CENTRAL, S.C. (AP) – Another Republican is challenging for his party’s 2016 presidential nomination. Sen. Lindsey Graham will formally launch his bid today in Central, the small South Carolina town where he grew up. Graham would put 10,000 more troops in Iraq and add to the pressure on Iran over its nuclear program.
LONDON (AP) – An inability of defense lawyers to pry sensitive security information from the British government has scuttled the case against a Swedish man accused of terrorism offenses. Prosecutors dropped the case today saying there was no longer a “reasonable” chance of convicting 37-year-old Bherlin Gildo of getting terrorist and weapons training and of possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) – The Philippine president says those responsible for a deadly factory fire will face criminal prosecution. President Benigno Aquino (beh-NEEG’-noh ah-KEEN’-oh) III tells a news conference today that local officials and fire bureau personnel who ignored the rubber slipper factory’s failure to meet safety requirements would be among those charged. The fire last month killed 72 people.
NEW YORK (AP) – The official rollout of the latest version of its Windows operating system will come at the end of July. Microsoft says that Windows 10 is designed with mobile computing in mind, allowing users to switch seamlessly between personal computers, tablets, smartphones and other gadgets. The operating system is intended to give apps a similar feel on all devices.
