Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police reports a child was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon just after 4-p.m., in the 200 block of 3rd Street Southeast near Jamestown Middle School.
The youth was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Sgt. Russ Shahin says no citations were issued at the scene, as the accident remains under investigation.
Valley City (CSi) Two Valley City residents, are likely to be charged in connection with the alleged theft of items from the John Deere Seeding Company plant in Valley City.
Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson says officers first learned that a check associated with John Deere Seeding was passed fraudulently.
He said at the same time during the investigation, employees discovered various items missing from the building.
Thompson said after a search warrant was executed, officers recovered a number of pieces allegedly stolen from John Deere Seeding.
He said officers also discovered stolen items from a separate open theft case in Valley City.
Thompson says additional charges including drug possession related charges are pending against 28 year-old Jessica Gamel and 31 year-old William Fisher both of Valley City.
Anyone with additional information in these cases is asked to contact the police department at 845-3110.
Valley City (CSi) The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Valley City Health, Wellness & Physical Education Center was held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the location of 755 Viking Drive Southwest.
The ceremony began with a welcome from Valley City Parks and Recreation Director, Tyler Jacobson.

Three major groups are involved with the development of the Valley City Wellness Center, including Valley City Park & Recreation, Valley City State University and the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office advises motorists that the closure of Fourth Avenue Southeast, between Second and Third Streets Southeast, is being extended through to Friday this week due to the ongoing utility work is taking longer than expected.
Depending on the weather Fourth Avenue Southeast is expected be reopened to traffic by Saturday this week.
Motorists and other traffic should use extreme caution when entering road construction areas. The public should consider alternate routes if possible.
Valley City (CSi) The Valley City permanent flood protection project is working along College Street in the VCSU area.
With public safety concerns, KLJ notes that the paved parking lot east of the walk bridge was closed. A portion of the parking lot west of the walk bridge will be closed on Friday June 5, 2015. The VCSU walk bridge will remain open, but there may be detours into the campus around the construction project.
The closure of Fifth Avenue Southwest, Viking Drive, and College Street will remain until further notice.

Carrington (CSi) The Foster County State’s Attorney office, has indicated that Foster County Commission Chairman Bill Bauer has resigned from the commission.
Foster County Auditor Casey Cables says Bauer put in his resignation during the regularly scheduled commission meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 due to health reasons.
Bauer’s replacement is expected by the end of this month.
Bauer steps down after serving six months in the position.
Jamestown (CSi) A ceremony honoring our nation’s flag and an official flag retirement ritual is planned for Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Fort Seward in Jamestown. Following a short program, the Girl and Boy Scouts of Jamestown will conduct the retirement ceremony.
If you have an old, faded or torn flag, you can bring it to the ceremony for proper disposal or you can drop it off at the All Vets Club, 116-1st St. East in Jamestown by Friday, June 12 or bring it to Fort Seward on Saturday.
The ceremony is sponsored by the Patriotic Council of Jamestown, who will be serving refreshments and cookies after the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
The Patriotic Council is made up of representatives of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Viet Nam Vets, 40 & 8 and AmVets and their auxiliaries.
Fort Seward is located on the northwest hill of Jamestown on Highway 281.
Valley City (CSi) The Summer Solstice Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2015,at Medicine Wheel Park in Valley City in conjunction with “Rally in the Valley.” At 9:15 p.m., there will be a ceremony observing the northernmost sunset of the year at the Medicine Wheel. Plan to arrive early to tour the beautiful 4,000 square foot perennial garden.
After sunset, a dedication of Saturn’s Rings will feature a brief talk by local artist Charles Bowen. Bowen, owner of Bowen Welding in Valley City, and his extended family created this beautiful addition to Saturn on the “Walk of the Planets” at the park. The sculpture was installed in May.
Following the dedication, a telescope observing session highlighting the “real” Saturn with its rings and other heavenly bodies will commence during late twilight (weather permitting) with the assistance of Preston Bush, Matt Nielson and Wes Anderson.
BISMARCK (CSi) A company that announced plans last fall for a $4 billion petrochemical plant in North Dakota is now planning to build a second plant in the continental United States.
Still left is to secure a supply for the North Dakota facility
The North Dakota plant proposed by Badlands NGL’s LLC and two partners last October would convert ethane gas, a byproduct of natural gas processing, into polyethylene for use in a wide variety of plastic products.
CEO Bill Gilliam says the Denver-based company is close to choosing a location for the North Dakota plant, which Gov. Jack Dalrymple said last fall would be the largest private investment project in state history.
Badlands NGL’s had received information from the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. concerning locating the project in or near Jamestown.
Gilliam wouldn’t disclose the location of the other U.S. plant but said the company has ethane commitments to meet its requirements for 10 years.
The company is close to reaching a 10-year agreement with one of the state’s top three producers to supply ethane for the North Dakota plant, but it’s not signed yet.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A Grand Forks man has been sentenced to serve 1 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to burglarizing two Minot churches.
Twenty-three-year-old Ryan Every will be on supervised probation for three years following his prison term.
The burglaries were among eight that were reported at Minot-area churches between March 24 and April 6.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A veteran corrections officer with the Williams County Sheriff’s Department is accused of child sex crimes and has been fired.
Forty-nine-year-old Sgt. Steven Brooks faces two felonies for allegedly downloading child pornography and surreptitiously video recording an underage girl.
Court documents don’t list an attorney for him, and he didn’t immediately respond to a telephone message left for him at the Ward County Jail, where he’s being held on $250,000 bond.
Brooks could enter a plea during a court hearing on Tuesday.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man accused of attacking his brother with a baseball bat says he will plead guilty in federal court.
Daniel Peltier, of Rugby, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Authorities say the assault occurred in May 2014 on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation.
A change of plea hearing has not been scheduled. Peltier’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Texas-based insurance company is facing a $275,000 penalty in North Dakota after regulators probed the company’s claim-settlement practices.
North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm says an investigation revealed that the insurer failed to follow regulations regarding guaranteed issue coverage.
Guaranteed issue in credit life insurance or credit disability insurance is the minimum benefit amount an insurer must issue regardless of the policyholder’s health status.
The guaranteed issue amount required by North Dakota law is $5,000 for both credit life insurance and credit disability insurance.
Hamm says the insurer “systematically failed to follow the law over the course of many years.” He adds the insurer has also been ordered to reimburse all affected consumers.
The insurer did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the fine and reimbursements.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a bird flu vaccine doesn’t work well enough to approve it for emergency use against the current outbreak that’s shaken the Midwest poultry industry.
The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said in a statement Wednesday that the current vaccine is not well matched against the H5N2 virus and don’t provide enough protection.
It says the vaccine offers just 60 percent effectiveness in chickens, leaving four in 10 birds unprotected, while the vaccine’s effectiveness in turkeys is still being studied.
The USDA says it will continue to support efforts to develop a more effective vaccine.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Four new judgeships approved by the North Dakota Legislature will be based in Williston, Watford City, Mandan and Dickinson.
The North Dakota Supreme Court announced the locations this week.
North Dakota Chief Justice Gerald VandeWalle appealed to lawmakers earlier this year to approve the new judgeship to help with an increasing caseload keep caused by the state’s booming oil economy.
North Dakota currently as 47 trial judges, including three that were added two years ago at VandeWalle’s request.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Officials who spoke at an unmanned aircraft conference in Fargo say the business opportunities are unfolding quickly in the drone industry.
Robert Becklund is the executive director of North Dakota’s drone test site, one of six such facilities in the country and the first one to begin testing. He says the state has been aggressive in minimizing costs for potential entrepreneurs and it could be “especially easy” for local developers to get started.
The event highlighted a recent joint venture between separate hardware and software companies from Fargo. They formed Botlink, a platform meant to help drones stay up in the air longer while collecting and distributing real-time data through cellular networks.
Executives of the new company say most details in the deal were worked out in a week.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed one run and two hits in seven innings to lead Boston to a 6-3 win over Minnesota in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Rodriguez improved to 2-0 seven days after a 5-1 win at Texas. The Twins won the nightcap, 2-0. Trevor May and two relievers combined on a two-hitter.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Major League Baseball ia apologizing to the Kansas City Royals for a breakdown in its replay process during a crucial moment in a 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
The issue occurred in the eighth inning of a tied game Tuesday night when first base umpire Bob Davidson ruled the Indians’ Jose Ramirez beat out a relay throw to prevent a double play. The replays appeared to show Ramirez was out, but the call stood after a nearly 3-minute review.
Cleveland wound up scoring the go-ahead run later in the inning.
In a statement, MLB said the super slow motion replay was delayed, and the replay official made the call without looking at that replay.

(AP) – The University of Winnipeg’s baseball team is joining the North Star Athletic Association in the U.S. Conference Commissioner Cory Anderson says the Wesmen will begin competing in the fall. NEW YORK (AP) – American Pharoah has been made the early 3-5 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes and complete the horse racing Triple Crown. The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner drew the No. 5 post position for Saturday’s 1 1/2-mile race at Belmont Park. Fourteen horses have won from there, including 1977 Triple Crown champion Seattle Slew.
Frosted drew the No. 6 post and was installed as the 5-1 second choice. Frosted finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby and is based at Belmont Park, where he has run one race.
FRENCH OPEN…
PARIS (AP) – Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) moved into the French Open semifinals with a 7-5, 6-3, 6-1 rout of nine-time champ Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL’)
The top-seeded Djokovic had lost all six previous matches he’d played against Nadal in Paris, including the 2012 and 2014 finals. The loss put an end to Nadal’s 39-match French Open winning streak. It’s only the second defeat for Nadal in 72 career matches in the French Open.
Djokovic will next face Andy Murray, who beat No. 7 seed David Ferrer (feh-REHR’) 7-6, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Murray has extended his clay court winning streak to 15 matches.
In women’s play, top-seed Serena Williams has reached the semifinals with a straight 6-1, 6-2 win over 17th-seed Sara Errani.
Williams will face Timea Bacsinszky (ba-CHIHN’-skee) of Switzerland in the semifinals.

WYANDANCH, N.Y. (AP) – Police say they’re looking for a suspect after three people were found shot to death inside a car on Long Island and a fourth victim was hospitalized. Two women and a man are dead and the wounded woman is expected to survive. Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer said a gunman approached the car and opened fire in Wyandanch (WEYEN’-danch), a hamlet about 38 miles east of midtown Manhattan. The suspect fled.
ACCRA, Ghana (AP) – Crews in Ghana are still collecting bodies and one morgue is full after 73 people died in a flood-induced inferno and explosion at a gas station. Authorities say massive flooding in Ghana’s capital swept stored fuel into a nearby fire, touching off a huge explosion and setting buildings on fire. Dozens were seeking shelter from the rain at the station and nearby shops.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) – A solution to the bailout crisis continues to elude Greece and its creditors. The two sides failed to agree at a meeting today on key economic reforms that could lead to the release of vital bailout loans. Greece needs the money to pay its creditors with some of the bills coming due tomorrow.
VATICAN CITY (AP) – Pope Francis is having Russia’s president over for talks next week. Conflicts in Syria and Ukraine are likely to top the Holy See’s agenda when President Vladimir Putin will meets Pope Francis on June 10 at the Vatican. After nearly a half-century of hostility, Russia and the Holy See upgraded their diplomatic relations to full-fledged ties, with ambassadors, in 2009.
LISBON, Portugal (AP) – Marijuana continues to be the drug of choice in the European Union. The EU’s drug agency says an estimated 79 million citizens have tried marijuana at some point in their lives. The report published today says that is almost a quarter of the EU’s adult population and compares with some 15.6 million who have tried cocaine, the second most popular drug.
