Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office reports that fogging operations in the City of Jamestown for adult mosquitoes that started Thursday evening  is to continue throughout the upcoming weekend.

All fogging operations are contingent upon weather conditions.

All fogging operations will take place between approximately 8:30 PM (dusk) until approximately 6:00 AM.

Parents are advised to keep children out of the streets and away from the fogging machines.

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the fogging units.

Jamestown (CSi) At a Special Meeting, the Jamestown Public School Board Thursday evening reviewed concept-facility assessments for master planning of the city’s elementary schools.

The School Board will seek feedback from the education staff, parents and the community on a combination of ideas.

Recommendations for four concepts were developed by DLR Group, an architectural design firm based in Minneapolis.

The concepts were based on an enrollment study that projects a 7 percent increase in Jamestown’s K-12 school population to reach 2,380 pupils by 2020.

DLR Group Principal Christopher Gibbs presented the recommendations based on a school facilities assessment study. It produced a three-option plan based on an anticipated five-year, 1,200-student population growth with 10 sections in each grade level.

The concepts are alternatives to deferred maintenance options that run approximately $44.9 million for estimated structural improvements at all city schools.

Gussner Elementary School was by itself $5.4 million, followed by Lincoln Elementary at $5.1 million, Louis L’Amour Elementary at $2.2 million, Roosevelt Elementary at $5 million and Washington Elementary at $5.3 million. The middle school deferred maintenance is at $13.2 million or $19 million depending on certain work. The high school is at $2.9 million, the alternative high school at $1 million and the James Valley Career and Technology Center at $4.8 million.

The options/concepts

* Option 1 is the least expensive alternative with the least amount of change at $23.9 million. It adds a new two-section elementary school for 240 students and makes Louis L’Amour Elementary a two-section building. A one-section school would have one version of each grade. It would also update three elementary buildings and eliminate Washington as a K-5 facility.

* Option 2 was called the most efficient and expensive at $34.9 million, according to the DLR Group study recommendation. It eliminates Washington and Roosevelt elementary schools, adds one new four-section elementary school and converts Louis L’Amour to a two-section building.

* Option 3 costs $31.5 million or $33.5 million if a gymnasium is added to Roosevelt. It would eliminate Washington and update Louis L’Amour and Gussner schools to accommodate 360 students and renovate Roosevelt and Lincoln to handle 240 students.

A fourth option offers no alternatives but would essentially manage growth within the current structures. It is not a recommended option in the DLR Group study.

The meeting including comments from the school board members was recorded by CSi 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL.

Jamestown (CSi) The Frontier Village Association Board of Directors is looking for a re-allocation from the Jamestown Tourism Site Advisory Committee of $34,000 for a new storage building into repairs to existing structures at Frontier Village.

FVAA Board President Charlie Tanata said the city had approved a recommendation from the committee last year to give the Frontier Village Association Board of Directors $34,000 to pay for a new building to store donated items on the grounds of the Frontier Village.

Tanata said that he belives those funds would be more wisely spent on repairs and improvements to existing buildings in the village.

The board has been looking at constructing a new building next to the Frontier Village Hall to store antique farm equipment and other items that were donated by an area family.

Jamestown Tourism executive director, Searle Swedlund said the advisory committee will meet on Wednesday and make a recommendation to the Jamestown City Council concerning projects that should be funded by 20 percent of the capital construction fund set aside by the city as a portion of the hotel and restaurant hospitality tax for this fund.

Jamestown (CSi) The exhibit at the Jamestown Arts Center is “A Walk in

the Woods.”

On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Arts Center, Director, Cyndi Wish said, the display is from the North Dakota Museum of Arts Permanent Collection by artists who create images and constructions about wood or include wood as their Material.

Visitors will see photography, sculpture, wood-fired ceramics, wood block prints, plus work for the Museum’s new African collection.

She also pointed out that the Arts Center will host The New York Kammermusiker on Wednesday July 1, 2015 at 6-p.m.

The ensemble has traveled extensively throughout the world, combing a repertoire ranging from early Renaissance through Contemporary, with an informal stage mannor.

Prior to the concert, from 3-p.m., to 5-p.m., at the Arts Center, local musicians, students, and historians can converse with the NYK about the group, try the double-reed instruments, and learn what makes them unique, and a type of music not widely practiced in the region.

The evening performance will begin with a conversation between musicians and audience, followed by musical performance.

Tickets at the door are $10 for Arts Center member, $15 for non-members, and young people age 18 and under will be admitted free.

Cyndi reminded that the Mini Art Hunt will take place during White Cloud Days, Saturday July 11th and Sunday the 12th.

Four sets of visual clues in the form of photos to each artwork’s hiding place will be made public on Saturday July 11th at 10-a.m., and 3-p.m., and Sunday the 12th at 10-a.m., and 3-p.m. All art work will be hidden in plain sight.

Jamestown (CSi) District 12 North Dakota Representative Jessica Haak will host forums in Jamestown, to discuss the needs surrounding childcare in Jamestown and surrounding communities. The forums will be held from 12:07 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, and Monday, June 29, at the Gladstone Inn and Suites. The events are open to the public and will have leaders from the childcare industry and the business community in attendance.

Haak says, “Childcare is a critical issue in Jamestown. It is important that we bring business leaders, parents, and providers together to discuss solutions to the needs throughout the community. In Jamestown, over 90 percent of households with two parents have both parents working. That’s higher than the state average. We need to collaborate to address this issue to anticipate the growth in Jamestown and surrounding communities in upcoming years.”

An opportunity will be provided to all who attend to comment on the childcare issue. Lunch will not be served, but attendees can order off the menu at their own expense.

In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) – Many House Democrats say they plan today to vote against a measure to retrain Americans who’ve lost their jobs because of international trade. They support a retraining program, but the Democrats say they’re willing to sacrifice it in order to bring down an entire package that would give President Barack Obama fast-track trade-negotiating authority. Such authority would let Obama present Congress with proposed trade agreements that lawmakers could either ratify, or reject, but not change.

DANNEMORA, N.Y. (AP) – Law enforcement officers are heading out for a seventh day of searching for two murderers who escaped from a maximum-security prison in northern New York. Armed officers in body armor started boarding New York state prison system buses soon after dawn today in the village of Dannemora, where David Sweat and Richard Matt used power tools to cut their way out of their neighboring cells last weekend.      BERLIN (AP) – Federal prosecutors in Germany say they’ve found no evidence that would stand up in court in their investigation into the alleged tapping of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cellphone by the U.S. National Security Agency. They say they’ve wrapped up their probe. The suspected monitoring has weighed on relations between Germany and the U.S.

LILLE, France (AP) – A French court has cleared former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of pimping charges. Ten other people were acquitted as well. The charges hinged on sex parties that took place in the midst of the global financial crisis. Strauss-Kahn told the court he didn’t know the women who took part were prostitutes. The allegations started when a New York hotel maid accused him of sexual assault in 2011. That case was settled out of court.

PARIS (AP) – A bill to make it illegal to buy sex in France is back at the lower house of Parliament for the second time with the two houses sharply divided. Supporters argue it would help fight human trafficking networks, while opponents defend those who buy sex from France’s 40,000 prostitutes. The lower house wants to penalize clients and lighten punishment for soliciting. The upper house wants the reverse. Prostitution is legal in France, but brothels, pimping, and the sale of sex by minors is illegal.
