Jamestown (CSi) Plans continue for the replacement of the current Bookmobile, and the purchase of a new unit.
The James River Valley Library System Board of Directors on Wednesday discussed progress on fundraising as about $8,000 in repairs were expended on the current vehicle.
Library Director Joe Rector, says in 2014, the bookmobile required only scheduled maintenance. He adds that the vehicle has more than 118,000 miles, and this year the exhaust and steering issues made the vehicle inoperable and needed to be fixed to use until a new vehicle was acquired.
The board discussed work to identify bookmobile manufacturers before a bidding process would begin. The cost of a new vehicle will be established as discussions continued with manufacturer
Rector and board members are working on two grant applications, and if approved, would bring funds to offset costs for the new bookmobile. Rector is also working on a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant application that would pay for 15 percent of the total vehicle cost.
Jamestown (CSi) The South Central Dakota Regional Council Executive Board has approved working with Stutsman County officials to resolve the issues related to the county’s multi-hazard mitigation plan completion
The executive board Wednesday agreed to seek payment from Stutsman County equal to how much of the mitigation plan was completed by the Regional Council.
Regional Council executive director, Deb Kantrud said former planner Daniel Schwartz had estimated that the plan was 70 percent done before he was fired on May 18th . Kantrud said Schwartz not completing the plan by the June 1st deadline in the contract the Regional Council had with Stutsman County was part of the reason she fired Schwartz.
Schwartz said at the executive board’s May 20 meeting that he was told by Kantrud he was fired for being insubordinate.
On Tuesday the Stutsman County Commission approved terminating the contract with the Regional Council for work the council did on the mitigation plan.

In Jamestown, over 90 percent of households with two parents have both parents working. That’s higher than the state average. We need to collaborate to address this issue to anticipate the growth in Jamestown and surrounding communities in upcoming years.”

The 13 million pound dragline known as Chief Ironsides tipped Tuesday afternoon. The two employees inside got out safely, and the machine did not suffer any major damage.
Geologists and engineers are being brought in to determine what caused the ground beneath the dragline to slump.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota regulators aren’t endorsing Xcel Energy’s plans for some solar projects in Minnesota.
The Minneapolis-based power company is proposing the projects to comply with Minnesota’s mandate that investor-owned utilities get 1.5 percent of their power from the sun by 2020.
The Public Service Commission determined Wednesday that the projects don’t provide the best option for low-cost electricity for Xcel’s about 87,000 North Dakota customers.
Commission chairwoman Julie Fedorchak says North Dakota customers “shouldn’t have to pay for policies they had no say in creating.”
Xcel officials say the solar projects will move forward without the nod from North Dakota regulators.
The three solar projects proposed by the company would create 187 megawatts of electricity, or enough to power about 41,000 homes.

Cards Hacking…
ST. LOUIS (AP) – An attorney representing the St. Louis Cardinals says an internal review shows high-level executives of the team were not involved in the hacking of the Houston Astros’ player personnel database. However, the internal investigation is not finished.
Attorney Jim Martin’s comments were the first to suggest that any wrongdoing could be limited to the lower levels of the Cardinals organization. The Cardinals said they retained the Dowd Bennett firm for a review several months before this week’s disclosure that the FBI is investigating whether the team hacked into the Astros’ computer system that is used to track players and prospects.
The FBI has declined to confirm it is investigating the Redbirds. But a person familiar with the inquiry earlier told the AP that federal authorities are investigating whether members of the team were to blame for what Major League Baseball called a “breach” of the Astros’ database.
There has been no indication of how many employees might be under investigation.
NFL…
SAN DIEGO (AP) – San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer is questioning whether the Chargers were serious about staying in the city. Faulconer’s characterization comes one day after the team shot down the mayor’s trial balloon for a city election this year on financing a stadium, dealing a blow to San Diego’s efforts to prevent the Chargers from moving to Los Angeles. The Chargers and Oakland Raiders plan to jointly build a $1.7 billion stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson, one of two proposals to return an NFL team to the nation’s second-largest city after a two-decade absence.
