Jamestown (CSi) Plans continue for the replacement of the current Bookmobile, and the purchase of a new unit.

The James River Valley Library System Board of Directors on Wednesday discussed progress on fundraising as about $8,000 in repairs were expended on the current vehicle.

Library Director Joe Rector, says in 2014, the bookmobile required only scheduled maintenance. He adds that the vehicle has more than 118,000 miles, and this year the exhaust and steering issues made the vehicle inoperable and needed to be fixed to use until a new vehicle was acquired.

The board discussed work to identify bookmobile manufacturers before a bidding process would begin. The cost of a new vehicle will be established as discussions continued with manufacturer

Rector and board members are working on two grant applications, and if approved, would bring funds to offset costs for the new bookmobile. Rector is also working on a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant application that would pay for 15 percent of the total vehicle cost.

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Salvation Army Captains,Mitch and Teresa  Brecto have been reassigned by the Salvation Army to its Hibbing, Minn., location.

Mitch says a couple from Minot, Tim and Teri Nauta, will be taking over operation of the Salvation Army chapel and thrift store in Jamestown on June 24.

Teresa says, “We want to tell the community thank you for its support and prayers over the years.”

Jamestown (CSi) As a follow-up, on behalf of the Community Health Partnership, in early May, Jamestown Regional Medical Center had held a community session for prioritizing its local health needs based on the community health survey assessment results. The primary goal of the event was to prioritize Stutsman County’s greatest health needs in efforts of being the healthiest community to live, learn, work and play.

As a result of this meeting, four priority areas were determined to focus on for 2015-2018 and those are:

* physical environment – not enough affordable housing

* access to care – cost and adequacy of health insurance

* obesity and physical activity

* employment – workforce

To continue this process, the next step is the development of a Community Health Improvement Plan. The Community Health Improvement Plan is an action-orientated plan that outlines priority community health issues based on the community health assessment findings and the county health rankings. This plan addresses how these issues will be approached, including strategies and measures, to ultimately help improve the health of our community.

JRMC is asking for community participation in completing the survey to help determine its action plan and strategy moving forward. This survey will allow the community to provide input on developing the action plans and strategy moving forward.

The survey is live now through June 25. The link can be found on the JRMC website or Central Valley Health’s website. The survey can also be found at

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – State prosecutors say they won’t pursue a retrial in the case of a former North Dakota teacher of the year accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student in 2009.

     The first trial for West Fargo High School teacher Aaron Knodel ended abruptly in April following one juror’s medical emergency while they were deliberating. Judge Steven McCullough threw out three charges against Knodel, but said he could be retried on the two remaining counts of felony corruption or solicitation of a minor.

     The judge set Tuesday for a possible retrial. But prosecutors filed a motion Thursday seeking to have the remaining charges dismissed.

     Defense attorney Robert Hoy and a spokeswoman for the state attorney general’s office did not immediately respond Thursday to requests for comment.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A 13-year employee of the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is facing felony charges for allegedly issuing two concealed weapons permits illegally.

   Court records show Kading worked for BCI between September of 2000 and June of 2013 and was in charge of maintaining concealed weapons permit records.

     Kading was only qualified to administer a written exam, but not a shooting proficiency exam.

     She allegedly filled out forms indicating that two people who had received permits had completed both exams. Both people denied to investigators they took the shooting exam.

     An attorney and phone number are not listed for Kading.

  Area organizations unveiled a five-year plan Thursday that they say will focus in part on training workers. Officials also want to draw new workers to the area, with plans for a winter festival that would encourage people to “embrace the cold.”

     Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation President Jim Gartin says the area’s unemployment rate is 2.6 percent, and that there are nearly 7,000 open jobs. He says manufacturers in the area have had to move production lines outside Fargo because they couldn’t find enough workers.
