BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The National Weather Service says its
Doppler radar in Bismarck has been shut down for an upgrade.
The installation of dual-polarization Doppler is part of a $50
million upgrade to radar systems nationwide.
The major advantage is the ability to distinguish the shape and
size of objects in the air.
Forecasters say it can help them predict flash floods and determine the difference between rain and snow when it is near 32 degrees.
Officials say the radar will be down no longer than two weeks.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 19, 2012) — The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out about 7-p.m. Wednesday to
3432 82nd Avenue. Southeast.
Wood, broken fences, debris and an exterior wall caught fire.
Rural Fire Chief Rick Woehl says no cause of the fire has been determined but may have been electrical in nature, starting an outdated building at that site.
16 rural firefighters and seven units was on scene for about an hour and a half.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 18, 2012) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has received the results of a blood sample taken from Wyatt Klein of Jamestown.
The report, provided by the North Dakota Attorney General’s Crime Laboratory, revealed that Klein’s blood alcohol was 0.25, over three times higher than the legal limit of .08.
On July 6, Klein was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-94 near Crystal Springs and struck a vehicle head-on.
This vehicle was driven by Aaron Deutscher of West Fargo. Deutscher, his wife Allison and daughter Brielle were killed as a result of the crash. Klein also died in the crash.
The Highway Patrol says, fifty-one percent of all 2012 North Dakota fatal crashes have been attributed to alcohol.
The Patrol says, all alcohol-related crashes and fatalities are preventable.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Stutsman Harley-Davidson, along with the Stutsman Harley Owners Group (HOGS) presents the 7th Annual, “Hogs For Dogs,” on Saturday July 28, 2012.
The event is the annual fundraiser to support the James River Humane Society.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases
shot up 52 percent during January, February and March when compared
to the same three months a year ago.
North Dakota’s Tax Department says the state recorded $5.3
billion in taxable sales and purchases during the first quarter.
Commissioner Cory Fong says taxable sales and purchases almost
doubled over last year in the oil and mining sector alone.
Construction went up 113 percent.
Fong says almost all of North Dakota’s economic sectors are
growing.
Fong says of North Dakota’s largest cities, 40 of them showed
double- or triple-digit percentage growth during the quarter.
North Dakota already has one of the nation’s lowest unemployment
rates. Fong says: “We are growing at a level beyond what we could
have expected.”

Bismarck, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 18, 2012) — The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission reports, statewide boardings for the month of June set another record and are up 15% from last year.
Director Larry Taborski says, “this comes with no surprise as North Dakota has been continually breaking monthly airline boarding records for almost two straight years.
Our travelers are varied – coming from and going to all sorts of places. It is great to see that North Dakotans are taking advantage of the investment in our airports. Businesses and individuals see the convenience and savings in time and money in airline travel.
Jamestown Boardings in June 2012, were 175, compared to 417 in June 2011.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Officials say a hiker from Virginia was found dead Wednesday at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western North Dakota.
The National Park Service says searchers located the body of 48-year-old Dan Olszewski, of Midlothian, Va., late Wednesday afternoon.
Agency spokeswoman Eileen Andes says an autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
Officials say Olszewski went hiking in the park on Sunday morning. He was reported missing by his employer Monday morning.
The agency says Olszewski was from Virginia but had been in North Dakota working.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo woman is accused of exposing her 1-year-old child to methamphetamine.
A police report says Amber Marie Helps was keeping the child in a filthy apartment with rotting food and sacks of garbage.
Helps has been charged with child neglect and abuse.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck police cited two teenage boys for breaking into a vehicle after one of the boys’ mother turned in a handgun she found in her son’s dresser.
A woman brought a handgun to the police department Tuesday night.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A Dickinson insurance agent is accused of
stealing $30,000 from a customer three years ago to buy gold coins
and make a payment on his credit card.
Scott Biggs is charged with five felonies. The most serious
carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. He and his attorney
wouldn’t comment on the case.
Earlier this month, Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm ordered
Biggs to quit selling insurance in North Dakota.
Biggs was in court Wednesday. Southwest District Judge Zane Anderson ordered him
not to leave North Dakota without permission.
Court documents say Biggs obtained two checks from his
customer’s savings account in September 2009.
One $23,000 check went for a credit card payment. The other
check for almost $6,000 bought three gold coins.

UNDATED (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers have matched
Minnesota’s offer sheet worth more than $45 million for Nicholas
Batum.
The Blazers announced the decision yesterday, a few hours
before the deadline.
The Timberwolves filed the offer sheet on
Sunday and Batum flew to Portland yesterday for a physical before
the deal was matched.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – A person with direct knowledge of the
decision says free agent forward Antawn Jamison will sign a
one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 36-year-old Jamison will be reunited with coach Mike Brown, who was in charge of the Cavaliers when Jamison was traded to Cleveland during the 2009-10 season.
The Boston Celtics have signed free agent guard Jason Terry, the 2009 NBA sixth man of the year.
Terry averaged 15.1 points per game for the Mavericks last year and was second in the league with 138 made 3-pointers last season.

BAGNERES-DE-LUCHON, France (AP) – Yellow jersey holder Bradley
Wiggins faced a final test in the Pyrenees on Thursday as the
peloton started the 17th stage of the Tour de France, the last in
the mountains this year.
The 89.2-mile trek between Bagneres-de-Luchon and the ski
station of Peyragudes features three difficult climbs and an uphill
finish at an average gradient of 10 percent.
Wiggins will try to keep intact his lead of 2 minutes, 5 seconds
ahead of Saturday’s time trial, his favorite discipline.

major concessions from the players.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) – Robert Griffin III has agreed to terms on a contract with the Washington Redskins.
Griffin’s agent, Ben Dogra, told The Associated Press that the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback agreed to terms and will be in Redskins rookie camp.
Griffin was the second pick in the draft out of Baylor.
He is due for a four-year contract worth about $21 million, roughly two-thirds of which would be the signing bonus. The deal includes a club option for a fifth year.
