BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of an Idaho man convicted of killing a man outside a strip club in Williston. Jonathan Horvath is serving life in prison for the March 2013 shooting death of 28-year-old Derrick Spiegel. The high court rejected his arguments of insufficient evidence and improper actions by a prosecutor.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Supreme Court has rejected another appeal by an Oklahoma man convicted of hiring a hit man to kill his son-in-law. Gene Kirkpatrick is serving a life prison sentence for paying a man to kill Fargo dentist Philip Gattuso in 2009 because Kirkpatrick thought Gattuso was a poor parent to his granddaughter. Kirkpatrick has appealed three times.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp is scheduled for hip replacement surgery next month. Officials say Heitkamp will undergo a right hip replacement on August 17th. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases says full recovery takes 3 to 6 months.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – United Tribes Technical College is seeking to build youth involvement at its 19th annual Tribal Leaders Summit in Bismarck this fall with the addition of the first Great Plains Youth Summit. The September event will be a separate conference during the Tribal Leaders Summit. High school students will discuss the issues affecting their communities.

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) – Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a bar in Coon Rapids. Officers were called to Willy’s Bar early Thursday on a report of a male who had been shot. The 29-year-old victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. Authorities say a suspect has been arrested.

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) – Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is making another stop in Minnesota. The Vermont senator is scheduled to host a town hall meeting and fundraiser in Rochester on Thursday. Sanders is courting liberal voters in Democrat stronghold states as he seeks to challenge front runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) – U.S. Representative Rick Nolan plans to seek another term representing Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District. The 71-year-old Nolan was elected to his fifth term in the House last November. Nolan previously represented Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District from 1975 to 1981 before re-entering politics in 2011.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Major League Soccer executives plan to meet with St. Paul officials as they look for a site to build a soccer stadium in Minnesota. MLS deputy commissioner Mark Abbott says now that the deadline for a stadium plan in Minneapolis has passed, the league will turn its attention to St. Paul. Abbott says he wants to meet with Mayor Chris Coleman in order to determine if the league should continue to look at Minnesota as a potential expansion market.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – A woman has been injured after an apparent medical problem caused her to crash her sport utility vehicle into the lobby of a Sioux Falls hotel. Police say the driver cut across several lanes of traffic and over a ditch before crashing into the building Wednesday. No one inside the hotel was hurt.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota wildlife officials will make available more antelope hunting licenses this year than in 2014. The Game, Fish and Parks Commission has decided on a total of just less than 2,500 tags. That’s an increase of 9 percent over last year.
