Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office reminds motorists that on Monday, July 27, 2015, 7th Ave SE, between 2nd St & 3rd St SE, will be closed to traffic, due to utility work. The work is expected to be completed and the street is expected to be re-opened to traffic within one to two weeks.
The work and anticipated street closure schedule are contingent upon weather conditions.
Motorists and other traffic should use extreme caution when entering road construction areas. The public should consider alternate routes if possible.
Spiritwood (CSi) Last Friday Dakota Spirit AgEnergy’s Spiritwood facility went into full commercial operation.
During a news conference, recorded by CSi 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, President of Midwest AgEnergy Group Greg Ridderbusch announced the official operation has begun.
Representatives of Governor Jack Dalrymple, Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Senator John Hoeven, and Congressman Kevin Cramer were on hand to pass along best wishes at the new 65 million gallon-per-year biorefinery. Also speaking was Jamestown’s Mayor, Katie Andersen.
The ethanol produced at Dakota Spirit AgEnergy amounts to about 20% of North Dakota’s annual fuel demand. The plant will purchase 23 million bushels of corn annually from farmers and provides 38 permanent jobs.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A weekend rollover east of Williston killed a 23-year-old man from the city.
The Highway Patrol says a tire on the man’s pickup truck blew out on a county road 15 miles west of Williston about 2 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle went into the ditch and overturned.
Authorities did not immediately identify the victim.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for transporting methamphetamine to a distributor in North Dakota.
A federal jury in March found Tyson Trotter guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Authorities say Trotter dealt more than 500 grams of meth.
Trotter was arrested in November 2014 after authorities observed him meeting with a man from Grand Forks in the parking lot of a business in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Authorities say a search of Trotter’s vehicle yielded more than $16,000 in cash. The man accused of buying the drugs was later found to have a pound of meth in his vehicle.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson ordered Trotter to serve 10 years of supervised release when his prison term is completed.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Sentencing is scheduled for a North Dakota man convicted of attacking another man with a knife on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
Francis Reed, of Fort Yates, pleaded guilty in April to federal charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He faces up to 10 years in prison on each charge.

WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) – A nonprofit consumer group is urging North Dakotans to be on alert for phone calls or visits from people trying to collect money fraudulently by claiming utility bills are overdue.
The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota says con artists typically threaten people with halting their service immediately if a payment isn’t made. This scam tends to gain traction during the summer.
Bureau President Dana Badgerow tells the Wahpeton Daily News that this is a “particularly bold scam” that has cost people money nationwide. In one instance, scammers claiming to be with an established utility firm promised $1,000 to a homeowner if they were allowed to come into the property and discuss an energy audit.
The group suggests contacting the utility directly to verify the an account’s status.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A study says $243 million in road projects are needed to alleviate traffic on the Interstate 94 corridor in the Bismarck area through 2040.
Bismarck Mayor Mike Seminary is advocating that a proposed interchange at 66th Street be pursued immediately to divert traffic from crash-plagued State Street. He says Bismarck is looking into private-public funding options to speed along development.
Burleigh County engineer Marcus Hall says the bypass project wouldn’t be seriously considered until 2023, and more infrastructure work would be needed to tie into it.
The Interstate 94 Corridor Study was accepted in June by the governments of Bismarck, Mandan, Burleigh County and Morton County.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Stormy weather during concerts is cited for a slight drop in attendance at this year’s North Dakota State Fair in Minot.
The fair wrapped up its nine-day run on Saturday with a concert by the legendary rock band Aerosmith. More than 16,600 people packed the grandstand for the show, boosting the fair’s total attendance to about 305,000.
That was 3 percent lower than in 2014, but only 5 percent lower than the 2013 record.
This year was the 50th anniversary of the annual fair that features carnival rides, food vendors, animal shows, 4-H exhibits and musical entertainment.
Fair Manager Renae Korslien (KORZ’-leen) says she’s pleased with the attendance. And she says staff is already gearing up to start planning for next year’s fair.
CAVALIER AIR FORCE STATION, N.D. (AP) – A military radar installation in remote northeastern North Dakota that was established more than 40 years ago to track enemy ballistic missiles is moving its living and working conditions out of the Cold War era.
The Cavalier Air Force Station has seen limited improvements since it was built in the early 1970s to deter the Soviet Union’s nuclear arsenal. But the base is getting a major facelift.
The improvements include a recently constructed row of single-family houses, rehabilitation to an alert facility, a planned new dormitory for single airmen, and nearly $20 million in upgrades to the mammoth radar building.
The 10th Space Warning Squadron has about 40 active military personnel stationed near Cavalier, about 15 miles south of the Canadian border
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – Two Indian tribes in North Dakota have received more than $48,000 each for economic development efforts.
The state’s congressional delegation says the funds from the U.S. Economic Development Administration have been awarded to the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe and the Three Affiliated Tribes.
U.S. John Hoeven says the grants will help the tribes “develop and diversify” their economies.
The grants are meant to be used to implement comprehensive economic development plans, bringing together the public and private sectors.
The grants are expected to lead to the creation of jobs in several North Dakota counties, as well as Codington, Day, Grant, Marshall and Roberts counties in South Dakota.
