The attorneys in court filings deny “each and every allegation” brought against the city and law enforcement by Thomas Sander.
Sander has sued the city, three police detectives and unnamed law enforcement officials. He says he was coerced into making a confession after he was denied food, water and sleep. He says he was not allowed to use the bathroom during his interrogation.
Sander also claims police worked for five months to prosecute and convict him even though evidence showed that someone else started the fire.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
Sander’s attorney, Ryan Shaffer in Montana, declined to comment on the city’s response.

DETROIT (AP) – In the age of Apple’s CarPlay, a lot of cars on the road still have tape decks. IHS Automotive says the average vehicle in the U.S. is now a record 11.5 years old. The consulting firm says that’s a sign of the cars’ increased reliability and the sharp drop in new car sales during the recession. Drivers behind the wheel of older cars aren’t enjoying some of the latest advanced safety features or infotainment systems found in newer cars. But then they don’t have to worry about hackers finding their way in to the car’s computer network through the cassette or CD player.
