Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Holiday Dazzle Parade was held on Friday evening (Nov 23, 2012) through downtown Jamestown.
45 floats were entered.
The Jamestown Main Street Downtown Association reported the winning float entries in the contest, judged before the parade, during the lineup at McElroy Park.
Parade Judges were: Chris Rathjen, Jessica Haak, and Alex Looysen.
The winner of the $500 First Place float was: Kitchen Solvers
The winner of the $250 Second Place Award was: Real Truck
The winner of the $100 Third Place Award was: Jamestown Area Ambulance Service.
Downtown Association, Ambassador, Charlie Kourajian estimated that between 2,000 and 2,500 parade-goers enjoyed the lights and music, and commented on the wonderfully decorcated floats.
The parade was recorded by CSi-T.V. 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, and will be showing through the holiday season, watch for the replay dates.
Following the parade, the community was invited to Shady’s at the Gladstone Inn & Suites for the After Parade Party.
The Jamestown Choralaires was hand to lead Christmas Sing-A-Longs.
Coffee, Hot Chocolate and cookies were served compliments of Shady’s and Coborn’s of Jamestown.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – The John Deere factory in Valley City
is holding a groundbreaking Tuesday (Nov 27, 2012) at 10:30-a.m., for its $20 million plant expansion.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple and other dignitaries are slated to attend
the groundbreaking of the new 100,000-square-foot addition.
The factory makes air seeders and tillage equipment and has
about 325 workers. The company says the up to 100 new jobs are
expected with the expansion.
Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Mercy HealthCare Foundation’s 17th Annual Festival of Trees was last Saturday
Festival of Trees Coordinator, Stephanie Mayfield said the event included both a silent and live auction, and quilt raffle.
Ms. Mayfield added, that afternoon from 1-3-p.m., the public was invited to stop by the Valley City Eagles, and stroll through the area decorated for Christmas, including the items to be auctioned that evening.
Those included the Christmas trees, along with mantle pieces, and wreaths.
Santa was on hand.
She added that businesses and the community purchased the trees and decorations.
This year there were 7 live, and 11 artificial trees, in the auction.
Proceeds raised from this year’s event go toward the Mercy Hospital renovations of the 2nd floor, patient rooms, along with furthering the development of new programs within the hospital as aiding the funding of equipment that is in need of replacement or upgrading.
Valley City, (KCSi-T.V. News The Barnes County, Valley City Salvation Army Kettle Campaign is in full swing and volunteer bell ringers are needed.
This years goal is to raise $32,000 dollars.
In 2011 a record $44,000 was raised in Barnes County.
Indviduals, businesses, service clubs and any others wishing to volunteer their time for bell ringing should contact Joe Lunde at 845-1974.
Bell ringers are needed in Valley City at Shopko (the former Pamida store,) Marketplace Foods and Leevers Foods.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota high school student is
set to be sentenced for his role in a synthetic drug ring that
resulted in a handful of apparent overdoses and two deaths.
Eighteen-year-old Wesley Sweeney, of Manvel, pleaded guilty in
August to a charge of conspiracy to distribute drugs that resulted
in death.
Sweeney is one of several people charged in the case that spans
local, state and federal jurisdictions.
Eighteen-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and
17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minn., died within a week
of each other in June after ingesting the hallucinogens. A handful
of other people required medical treatment.
Sweeney is scheduled to be sentenced Monday at 2:15 p.m. at the
federal courthouse in Fargo. He faces a minimum mandatory sentence
of 20 years in prison.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – The widow of a man killed in a
hit-and-run case in Dickinson is offering a reward for people who
come forward with information.
Tracy Freer was killed when a pickup struck him about 1 a.m.
Wednesday in the Queen City Motel parking lot. Freer had been had
been letting his dog out to use the bathroom when he was struck and
dragged about 15 feet.
Tracey Freer owned the motel with his wife Roberta.
Roberta Freer says her family is offering $5,000 for information leading to the driver of the pickup. She says she has faith the detectives working
on the case will be able to solve it.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – An Illinois man says he will plead guilty in
a North Dakota drug case.
Uriel Curiel is charged in federal court with conspiracy to
possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and money
laundering. He had pleaded not guilty in September.
Curiel was arrested in Chicago in November.
A change of plea hearing is scheduled Monday in Fargo.
No further information has been released.
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – A grief counselor who has provided support
to a Minnesota reservation following a deadly shooting spree and
victims of the Oklahoma City bombing is now in New Town to help
community members deal with the death of four residents.
Jacqueline Gray has been on hand since Wednesday offering grief
support following the deaths of 64-year-old Martha Johnson and
three of her grandchildren: 13-year-old Benjamin Schuster,
10-year-old Julia Schuster and 6-year-old Luke Schuster.
Gray is associate director of indigenous programs at the Center
for Rural Health and the Department of Pathology at the University
of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Gray previously offered grief counseling at the Red Lake
Reservation in Minnesota 2005 after a deadly shooting and in
Oklahoma City.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Fargo-based accounting and consulting
firm is acquiring a similar company in Williston.
The Forum reports Eide Bailly’s acquisition of Voller, Lee,
Suess and Associates is aimed at bringing more resources and
services to clients in western North Dakota’s oil patch.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The newspaper reports that the acquisition will add three
partners, 12 staff members and $2.6 million in revenue to Eide
Bailly.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck native has been nominated for a
national award for her work documenting women’s right in
Afghanistan.
38-old Shannon Galpin is a nominee for the 2012 National Geographic
“Adventurer of the Year.”
Galpin is nominated for her work with women in the war-torn
country. She rides a single-speed mountain bike through the country
working with various women as part of her nonprofit organization
Mountain2Mountain. The organization is aimed at educating and
creating opportunities for women in regions of conflict.
She is one of nine people nominated for the “Adventurer of the
Year” award. People can vote daily online for who they think
should win. The nominee with the most votes after Jan. 16 will win.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s darkhouse spearfishing
season opens on most state waters this weekend.
The state Game and Fish Department says the season runs from
Saturday through mid-March. Legal fish are northern pike and
nongame species.
Darkhouse spearfishing is allowed for all residents with a valid
fishing license and for residents under the age of 16. But all
participants must register first with Game and Fish.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s deer gun season is closing,
but the state’s muzzleloader season is set to open. The state Game
and Fish Department says the muzzleloader season opens at noon on
Friday and runs through December 16th.

CHICAGO (AP) – Jay Cutler threw for 188 yards and a touchdown in
his first game back from a concussion as the Chicago Bears beat the
Minnesota Vikings yesterday 28-10. Michael Bush ran for two TDs for
the Bears, who stopped a two-game skid. Kyle Rudolph caught a
two-yard TD pass from Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Eli Manning threw three touchdown
passes last night as the New York Giants routed the Green Bay
Packers 38-10. Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle were on
the receiving end of Manning’s scoring tosses. Packers quarterback
Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times.
TAMPA (AP) – The Atlanta Falcons kept pace with 10-1 Houston
with the best record in the NFL, but it took some effort. The
Falcons needed a fourth-quarter comeback to edge Tampa Bay 24-23 on
Michael Turner’s late touchdown.

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) – The North Dakota State and South Dakota
State football teams are gearing up for Round Two, and this time
there’s a lot more on the line.
The two teams meet Saturday in Fargo in the second round of the
Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The winner advances to
the quarterfinals.
The Bison and the Jackrabbits met on Nov. 10, with NDSU coming
out on top 20-17.
The defending national champion Bison are the top seed in this
year’s playoffs and got a first-round bye. SDSU played Eastern
Illinois in the first round this past Saturday and won 58-10.
NBA…
HOUSTON (AP) – The daughter of Houston Rockets coach Kevin
McHale has died at the age of 22. The team announced Alexandra
“Sasha” McHale’s death yesterday. The former Timberwolves coach
has been on leave since November 10th. Rockets owner Leslie
Alexander said in a statement that he extends his “deepest
condolences” to the McHale family.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL-AP POLL
NEW YORK (AP) – The football polls continue to smile on the
Irish.
Notre Dame is the unanimous No. 1 team in the latest Associated
Press college football poll following a 22-13 win over USC at Los
Angeles on Saturday night.
The Fighting Irish claimed all 60 first-place votes after
running their record to 12-0 and moving within one victory of their
first national championship in 24 years.
Alabama remains No. 2 after their 49-0 rout of Auburn. Georgia
sits third and will take on the Crimson Tide on Saturday for the
SEC title and the right to face Notre Dame in the BCS title game.
Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia are also 1-2-3 in the new BCS
standings.
CFL-GREY CUP
TORONTO (AP) – Chad Owens, Pacino Horne and Dontrelle Inman
scored in the first half and the Toronto Argonauts beat the Calgary
Stampeders 35-22 in the 100th Grey Cup.
Andre Durie added a touchdown in the second half for the
Argonauts, who built a 24-6 lead and never trailed while playing in
front of a loud home crowd of 53,208 at Rogers Centre. Toronto
earned its 16th Grey Cup title and first since 2004.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – Columbia Gas of Massachusetts is
opening a claims center today at Springfield City Hall for
residents and businesses affected by an explosion that injured 21
people, flattened one building and damaged 42 more. The president
of the gas company is defending an employee blamed for piercing a
gas line. He says the worker followed proper procedure and protocol
in ordering an evacuation.
DOHA, Qatar (AP) – Climate talks which have been going on for
two decades without succeeding in reducing greenhouse gas emissions
have resumed in Qatar (GUH’-tur). Representatives from some 200
nations are expected to focus on how poor nations can adjust to
global changes.
BRUSSELS (AP) – Eurozone finance ministers are meeting in
Brussels to try to finally agree on keeping Greece out of
bankruptcy. The 17 countries that use the euro have failed for
weeks to agree on a strategy that will allow them to release some
$56.8 billion for the cash-strapped country.
NEW YORK (AP) – Cyber Monday bargains are everywhere on line
today as internet retailers try to help jumpstart the holiday
shopping season. It’s estimated that this year’s Cyber Monday will
be the biggest online shopping day of the year for the third year
in a row. Spending could be up as much as 20 percent from last
year.
JASPER, Ga. (AP) – Authorities in north Georgia say a
16-year-old boy is expected to make his first court appearance
today after he was accused of killing his stepfather with a sword.
Pickens County sheriff’s Lt. Kris Stancil says a relative of the
teen called 911 Friday night to report the stabbing, which may have
followed an argument.
