Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Nov 26, 2012) — The Barnes County Commission voted unanimously to appoint a new Barnes County Auditor.
Beth Didier will serve, starting in December 2012, and fill the unexpired term of Ed McGough who resigned earlier this year due to health reasons.
Ms. Didier previously worked in the Barnes County Auditor’s Office as a deputy auditor for nine years.
She presently is employed as a USDA Rural Development Loan Specialist in Valley City and is on the North Dakota Winter Show Board of Dirctors.
The county auditor’s term expires in two years with the election in November of 2014.
The interview selection committee recommended former Jamestown Public Schools Business Manager Joe Sykora as the new auditor.
County Commissioners decided to interview Ms. Didier a second time during a special meeting on November 23rd.
During Monday’s (Nov 26, 2012) Barnes County Commission meeting, Commissioner Leitner said Sykora withdrew has name for the appointment, not being chosen on a unanimous vote.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – The John Deere factory in Valley City is holding a groundbreaking this morning (Tuesday Nov 27, 2012) at 10:30am for its $20 million plant expansion.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple and other dignitaries are slated to attend the groundbreaking of the new 100,000-square-foot addition.
The factory makes air seeders and tillage equipment and has about 325 workers. The company says the up to 100 new jobs are expected with the expansion.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Nov 26, 2012) — The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation’s (JSDC’s) Executive Board has withdrawn recommending Stutsman County’s leaving the South Central Dakota Regional Council, based in Jamestown.
The vote was unanimous to rescind the recommendation, and is an advisory vote with the final decision in the hands of the Stutsman County Commission.
CHAFFEE, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have arrested three suspects
and are looking for a fourth after a home invasion-style armed
robbery in the eastern North Dakota town of Chaffee.
Cass County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tara Morris says a woman and her
adult daughter called authorities after the men broke into the
mother’s home about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Morris says the mother was
assaulted and both women were threatened. She says the daughter’s
two children were upstairs in the home and weren’t harmed.
Morris says the suspects took cash and valuables from the home.
She says they had weapons but she didn’t say what they were
The three suspects were arrested in Fargo about 2 a.m. Monday.
Morris says the victims knew at least two of them.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Mandan police are investigating a stabbing
that occurred outside a local bar over the weekend.
Police officers responded to a report of a fight shortly before midnight
Saturday at the Moscow Bar.
Sgt. Jay Gruebele says 23-year-old Jace Renville, of Bismarck,
reported being assaulted by two men outside the bar. Renville was
taken to a local hospital with lacerations on his abdomen and back.
Police say witnesses to the fight fled when police arrived.
Gruebele says Renville did not know the attackers but provided
descriptions of them. It’s not known what type of weapon was used.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota high school student has
been sentenced to prison for his role in a synthetic drug ring that
resulted in a handful of apparent overdoses and two deaths.
18-year-old Wesley Sweeney, of Manvel, was sentenced to 12 1/2 years
in prison Monday. He’d pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to
distribute drugs that resulted in death.
Prosecutors say he bought the hallucinogens in June and gave
them to two teenagers, including 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, who
was found dead the next day.
Sweeney, who also took the drug, says Bjerk was one of his best
friends and apologized.
Prosecutors say 22-year-old Andrew Spofford made the drugs after
ordering chemicals from overseas. Spofford pleaded guilty last
month. He’ll be sentenced next year.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The defendants in a lawsuit over a North
Dakota bar fight say there’s no evidence to back up the complaint
and it should be thrown out of federal court.
Ron Carpenter, of West Des Moines, Iowa, has filed a civil suit
against Joshua Luger and the Last Chance Saloon for the October
2010 incident on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
Carpenter says Luger assaulted him at the Solen Bar and caused
severe injuries to his head and face.
The lawsuit accuses the bar of negligence for serving Luger
liquor and failing to provide adequate security.
An answer to the complaint was filed Monday. The defendants say
they’re not liable and accuse Carpenter of instigating the
confrontation with a series of racial remarks.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota official says the state has
collected more than $1 billion since 2007 by allowing drilling
activity. State Department of Trust Lands commissioner Lance Gaebe
(GAY’-bee) says royalty income from oil production has overtaken
lease revenue. The state is now collecting more than $20 million in
royalty income every month.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Four airmen with the North Dakota Air
National Guard are returning home after four months of duty in
Southwest Asia.
The airmen are scheduled to fly in to Fargo on two flights late
Tuesday. The Guard did not disclose their exact area of service
overseas. They handled duties including overseeing a fitness
center, assisting with lodging for soldiers, ensuring the quality
of food service and helping with food deliveries.
Only two North Dakota Air National Guard soldiers remain
overseas. The Guard says that for a brief time after the new year
there will be no North Dakota airmen overseas. The Guard says the
break in service will be the first since the 9/11 terrorist
attacks.
More than 100 North Dakota Army National Guard soldiers are
deployed overseas.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Officials are launching a project to turn
a historic building in Williston into affordable housing for senior
citizens.
The old junior high school in the oil boom city is being
converted into 44 low-income apartments for seniors and space for
community events. A groundbreaking was scheduled Tuesday.
The school building was built in 1931 and has been shuttered for
several years. It is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places.
The $10.6 million redevelopment project is getting federal,
state and local funding and is slated to be completed in about a
year. The building is being renamed the Lutheran Social Services
Legacy Living at Central Place.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department
says no injury accidents were reported in the state during this
year’s deer gun hunting season.
Last year there were five hunting-related incidents reported,
with two fatalities.
Game and Fish hunter education coordinator Zach Peterson says more advertisements about safety and less hunting pressure were big reasons for the drop inthe number of accidents. Because of a decline in the deer
population only about 65,000 licenses were made available, 40
percent fewer than last year.
The season lasted about two weeks. It opened Nov. 9 and closed
on Sunday.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Officials are slated to meet in Bismarck
on Tuesday to discuss a plan to reduce impacts to wildlife and land
in western North Dakota’s oil patch.
The so-called Sporting and Oil Industry Forum consists of a
group of oil industry officials and wildlife and conservation
representatives.
The group says it will announce recommendations that oil and gas
producers can use to help reduce impacts on land and wildlife.
Game and Fish Director Terry Steinwand (STYN’-wahnd) and North
Dakota Petroleum Council President Ron Ness are among the officials
slated to attend.
NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The Carolina Panthers are the latest team to
embarrass the Eagles in Philaelphia.
Cam Newton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others as
the Panthers handed the Eagles their seventh straight loss, 30-22.
Newton was 18-of-26 for 306 yards, and he also ran 14 times for 52
yards. He closed the scoring by running for a two-yard TD with 4:40
remaining.

UNDATED (AP) – The Nets moved closer to the Knicks this fall,
and the two teams couldn’t be any closer in the NBA’s Atlantic
Division standings.
The Nets have pulled even with New York for the division lead by
downing the Knicks 96-89 in overtime at Brooklyn. Jerry Stackhouse
drained the tiebreaking three-pointer with 3:31 remaining as the
Nets outscored the Knicks 12-5 in the extra session.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Minnesota is ranked in the Associated Press
Top 25 for the first time in nearly two years. In the latest poll
released yesterday, the Gophers were ranked at No. 21. Point guard
Andre Hollins was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week.
NFL…
UNDATED (AP) – The NFL has decided not to suspend Detroit
defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (ehn-DAHM’-uh-kehn soo) for his
actions against Houston quarterback Matt Schaub (shawb) in a
Thanksgiving Day game. And a person familiar with the decision says
the NFL will not be suspending Saints starting defensive tackle
Brodrick Bunkley for his kick to the back of offensive lineman Alex
Boone’s helmet in the final minutes of San Francisco’s victory over
New Orleans on Sunday. Both Suh and Bunkley still face fines for
their actions.
NHL LABOR…
WASHINGTON (AP) -Both sides have agreed to have federal
mediators enter the stalled NHL labor talks, with the season’s
first 2 1/2 months already lost because of the lockout. Three
mediators have been assigned to assist in negotiations in an effort
to end the lockout which is in its 72nd day.
MLB…
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan
Longoria has agreed to a new contract through 2022 that adds six
guaranteed seasons and $100 million. The agreement with the
three-time All-Star incorporates the remainder of the 27-year-old’s
existing contract, which called for him to earn about $36.5 million
over the next four seasons.
BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms with
outfielder Jonny Gomes (GOHMS) on a two-year contract that would
reportedly pay him $10 million. The Red Sox have not announced the
deal, but a baseball official, speaking on the condition of
anonymity because Gomes had yet to take his physical, says that the
terms were agreed to.
Gomes is a career .244 hitter who batted .262 with 18 homers and
47 RBIs for the Oakland Athletics last year.
A part-time player for most of his 10-year career, Gomes has
played both right and left field.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama will be climbing on the
public soap box this week to talk up his plan to avoid careening
over the fiscal cliff. Today he meets with small business owners at
the White House and middle class families are invited tomorrow.
He’ll head to the Philadelphia suburbs Friday as he pressures
Republicans to allow tax increases on the wealthy while extending
cuts for middle income families.
DOHA, Qatar (AP) – A United Nations report released as climate
talks intensify in Qatar (GUH’-tur) contains a warning that global
warming could be made worse by thawing in the permafrost that
covers almost a quarter of the northern hemisphere. The report says
carbon dioxide and methane emissions from warming permafrost are an
emerging issue.
CAIRO (AP) – Clashes have broken out in Cairo hours before a
planned massive rally by opponents of Egypt’s Islamist president.
The protesters want Mohammed Morsi to rescind decrees granting
himself near-absolute powers. The clashes with police are taking
place near the U.S. Embassy and the Egyptian capital’s Tahrir
square.
BEIRUT (AP) – Activists in Syria say farmers who were waiting to
convert their olives to oil are among the dead and wounded in an
attack by Syrian aircraft on an olive press factory in the
country’s north. President Bashar Assad’s regime has been launching
intense air raids on rebels in recent months that have killed
hundreds.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) – Greece is apparently safe from bankruptcy
for the time being. After three weeks of negotiations, Greece’s
euro partners and the International Monetary Fund agreed to release
vital loan payments totaling some $57 billion and introduce
measures designed to reduce the country’s massive debts.
