Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Ground breaking was held Tuesday morning (Nov 27, 2012) at the John Deere factory in Valley City, along I-94, for its $20 million plant expansion, to meet the growing worldwide customer demand for John Deere products.

The factory makes air seeders and tillage equipment that is exported to 23 counties, and currently employees more than 350 workers, including another 65 employees added in 2012.

When the expansion is complete, an additional 50-100 employees will be added to the Valley City plant’s workforce.

Governor Jack Dalrymple and other dignitaries attended the groundbreaking of the new 100,000-square-foot addition, which will increase the facility’s size to more than 325,000 square feet and could bring an additional 50-100 new jobs to the region.

Valley City plant CEO David Bradford said the expansion should be completed in 2014.

Dalrymple says, “This expansion means more production capacity for John Deere Seeding Group and more jobs and economic opportunities for Valley City and the region. The growth of this manufacturing plant is a testament to the community, our quality workforce and North Dakota’s strong business climate.”

Dalrymple met with Deere & Company officials and encouraged them to support the company’s growing production demand by expanding in North Dakota.

In August, Dalrymple and state Commerce Commissioner Al Anderson met with the Valley City plant’s manager, David Bradford, other John Deere employees and toured the Valley City plant.

John Deere, Agriculture Solutions, President, John May said, “This expansion is another important step as we continue to respond to the growing worldwide demand for John Deere products. Our investment to support this growth is possible in part because of the region-wide cooperation we’ve received from the City of Valley City, state of North Dakota and our employees.”

Deere & Company is among several manufacturers expanding in North Dakota. Other manufacturing expansions include: Steffes Corp. in Grand Forks, ComDel Innovation in Wahpeton, Harris Machine in Oakes, Bobcat in Bismarck and Summers Manufacturing in Devils Lake.

The I-94 Regional Development Corridor, a 77-acre site, includes the new North Dakota National Guard facilities, on 20 acres east of John Deere Seeding, and the availability for private sector development.

The Corridor includes the extension of all utilities from John Deere Seeding Group to the east I-94 interchange at Exit 294.

The Barnes County Development Corporation entered into a Purchase Agreement.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The number of traffic fatalities on North
Dakota roads has eclipsed last year’s total with more than a month
still to go in the year.
150 people have died on roads in the state this year, after four fatalities over the Thanksgiving holiday period. The 150 deaths is two more than
the total for all of 2011.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Iverson says more than half of the
fatalities this year have been alcohol-related.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The wife of a Fargo surgeon has sued him for
medical malpractice, just days after a jury found Jon Norberg not
guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting her.
The civil lawsuit was filed Friday on behalf of Alonna Norberg. She is
seeking more than $50,000 in damages.
Jon Norberg says the lawsuit surprises him given the evidence
brought forth during his trial on criminal charges of gross sexual
imposition and reckless endangerment. The jury cleared him of those
charges a week ago after a trial that lasted nearly three weeks.
The Associated Press typically doesn’t identify the alleged
victims in sexual assault cases, but Alonna Norberg has spoken
publically about the case.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have arrested a fourth person
suspected of being involved in a home invasion armed robbery in the
Cass County town of Chaffee.
The sheriff’s office says the 27-year-old man from Moorhead,
Minn., was arrested Monday afternoon. Three other suspects had been
arrested earlier that day: 18- and 21-year-old men from Fargo and a
34-year-old man from West Fargo.
Authorities allege that the men broke into a woman’s home late
Sunday, assaulted her, and threatened her and her adult daughter
before taking cash and valuables from the home. Two children in the
home at the time were not harmed.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The second of two Fargo men charged with
burglarizing home construction sites has been sentenced to three
years in prison.
34-year-old Jeremy Tibiatowski pleaded guilty to 23 felony counts of criminal conspiracy, as well as one felony count of possession of stolen property.

He will be on probation for five years following his prison term.
Prosecutors say Tibiatowski and 35-five-year-old Jason Leines
stole equipment worth more than $10,000, mostly from home
construction sites in the Fargo region.
Leines was sentenced in October to five years in prison and five
years of probation.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Autopsy reports show a New Town woman and
three of her grandchildren were shot to death with a hunting rifle
in their home earlier this month.

State medical examiner Dr. William Massello estimated the four victims died within six minutes of one another on November 18th. A man who killed himself later that day is considered a person of interest in the case.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to dealing
methamphetamine in North Dakota.
Uriel Curiel is charged in federal court with conspiracy to
possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and money
laundering. He was arrested in Chicago in November.
Authorities say the 39-year-old Curiel and four other men
distributed the drugs in North Dakota, Minnesota and elsewhere.
Curiel faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a minimum
mandatory term of 20 years. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 21 in
Fargo.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Montana man has been sentenced to life

Dakota. Forty-two-year-old John Bridges was sentenced yesterday in

crashed off Interstate 94 in July.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Industrial Commission has
awarded a $1 million grant for a project that would turn natural
gas into farm fertilizer.
The grant awarded to N-Flex LLC last week is financed by oil and
gas taxes.
Natural gas is a byproduct of oil production. About a third of
the gas produced in North Dakota is burned off and wasted because
the pipeline networks needed to move the gas haven’t been built
yet.
The company says the project would use natural gas directly from
a well to make anhydrous ammonia fertilizer. It would use a
portable manufacturing plant that would be installed at the well
site.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) – A proposed $1.8 billion oil pipeline from
North Dakota to Oklahoma has been called off. Tulsa-based Oneok
Partners says the pipeline won’t be built because the company
couldn’t rally enough commitments to transport their oil to
Cushing.

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – The city of Devils Lake is planning a
major annexation east of the present city limits that likely will
include a Walmart Supercenter and other stores within two years.
Walmart has a purchase agreement with a property owner for about 16.5 acres of land.

City Engineer Mike Grafsgaard says a zoning change and annexation should
be completed by mid-January, with necessary infrastructure work
beginning in the spring.
Grafsgaard says the store likely would not open until 2014.
Mayor Dick Johnson says some developers have expressed interest in
building strip malls near the new Walmart.
The  City Commission plans a public hearing on the annexation.

NEW YORK (AP) – Marvin Miller, the soft-spoken union head who

been suspended for the first 25 games of next season following a

will be eligible to take part in spring training including
exhibition games.

on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. Their inclusion will
determine whether drug allegations can block the former stars from
reaching baseball’s shrine.

COLLEGE ATHLETICS-BIG EAST EXPANSION

UNDATED (AP) – The Big East moved quickly to replace Rutgers and
braced for more possible departures, getting Tulane and East
Carolina to agree to join the re-invented conference in 2014.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Unless NHL owners and players settle

reduction in pay next month. Team spokesman Aaron Sickman confirmed
employees were told of the cutbacks yesterday. All NHL games
through December 14th have already been cancelled.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) – Golf is proposing to ban the

putting stroke used by three of the last five major champions.

The sport’s ruling bodies announced a new rule Wednesday that would make it illegal to anchor the club in making a stroke.

The proposed rule is aimed at belly putters and long putters that are pressed against the body. Keegan Bradley was the first player to win a major with the belly putter at the 2011 PGA Championship.

Webb Simpson and Ernie Els used belly putters to win majors this year.

Officials say the golf stroke should be a free swing, and anchoring a club eliminates part of the skill.

The rule would apply to golfers at every level. It would not take effect until 2016.
