Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Fire Department responded to a fire on a deck of an apartment unit Sunday at 1005 19th Street, Southwest, at about 3:30 p.m.
City Fire Chief Jim Reuther, says, twenty-seven firefighters and four trucks were on scene.
He says, the cause of the fire may have been smoking materials on the deck
The city fire department was on scene for about 25 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to a Semi truck fire at 6:13-p.m. on Saturday on I-94 eastbound, at Exit 259.
No cause was listed as the truck was totaled.
Four city fire units and 20 fire fighters were on the scene.
No cause was listed.
Then, Jamestown City Fire department was called out to Altendorf Trucking, east of Jamestown on Sunday about 6:55-p.m., in the lot at the shop area, where the fire rekindled, in the cab.
Four city units and 31 city fire fighters were on the scene, then, about an hour.
Jamestown (CSi) About 40 individuals particpated in the “Out of the Darkness,” suicide awareness walk on Saturday September 12, 2015, at McElroy Park.
Speaking at the event was Mrs. Fargo International Sara Thanel Dukart talking about her platform of bringing hope to suicide prevention.
A registered nurse who works at Sanford Neurosurgery Clinic as a triage phone nurse for presurgery and postsurgery, she is also a teenage suicide survivor who supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
She said, “The walks are a way to join together and support one another. We all have different stories and reasons for being here, but we have one goal — to prevent suicide.”
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is warning residents regarding a convicted sex offender residing in Jamestown.
Cory Paxton Harmon lives at 403 1st Avenue, North, Jamestown ND #4.
He is a 35 year old white male five feet four inches tall, weighing 200 pounds with green eyes and red hair.
Harmon has been assigned a high risk assessement by the North Dakota risk level committee of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
He was convicted in November of 2011 in Richland County District Court stemming from the offense of Possession of Material – Sex Conduct by a minor.
Disposition: five years, three years suspended, five years supervised probation..
He was convicted also in Novmeber of 2011 in Richland County District Court stemming from the charge of Luring a Minor by Computer.
Disposition: Five years with three years suspended, five years supervised probation (concurrent with Possession of Material.)
He is currently on probation with North Dakota Parole and Probation.
Harmon is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.
This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender.
Any attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders, their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.

Bismarck (CSi) The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission reports that
Jamestown Regional Airport usage continues to see growth.
In August 2015, there were 683 enplanements reported, 106 percent more than the 331 boardings reported in August 2014.
Jamestown Regional Airport’s total boardings to date is roughly 5,458 passengers, which is more than 275 percent more than last year at this time.
Other North Dakota Airports seeing growth include,. Bismarck, Devils Lake, Grand Forks and Williston.
Valley City (CSi) Over $28 million in building permits have been recorded, so far ths year in Valley City.
City Building Inspector Dave Andersen says the Wellness Center, National Guard Maintenance Facility, GrandStay Inn and the Sheyenne Care Center project are the lion share of the construction boom this year in Valley City.
Last year there was more than $12.6 million dollars in new building permits in Valley City. Meanwhile residential and commercial construction approached nearly $5 million dollars in October of 2014 an all-time record in Valley City.
Jamestown (CSi) The Crusaders motorcycle club will hold a Bike Run fundraiser for the James River Humane Society, on Saturday September 19, 2015, starting at Stutsman Harley Davison. A “Paws for a Cause,” fundraiser.
The cost is $25 per entry, with registration at 11-a.m., and kickstands up at noon.
On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, JRHS, President, Matt Opsahl also pointed out that on October 17th, there will be a bake sale at the Buffalo Mall, from 10-a.m. to 2-p.m.
The shelter still has calendars, cookbooks, and t-shirts available for sale, with all proceeds going to the James River Humane Society.
Opsahl pointed out that the shelter currently has 14 cats and 12 dogs available for adoption. A cat had kittens on Labor Day weekend so some kittens will be available in the future.
He added that donations are accepted at Hugo’s and can be dropped off at the shelter, such as toys, treats, food, rawhides, blankets, plus cleaning supplies.
Matt added that a paying job opening is available on Thursdays and Fridays, from 7-a.m. to noon each day. Applications through Job Service, or at the shelter.
Volunteers are also needed.
The James River Humane Society is located off the I-94 Bloom Exit.

Fargo (CSi) North Dakota U.S. Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven have announced that more than $3 million in federal funding to make needed improvements at multiple airports across North Dakota, authorized by the U.S. Department of Transportation .
Heitkamp said, “As North Dakota’s population continues to grow, local airports have seen a higher demand for resources to continue to provide safe and reliable transportation for North Dakotans. Investing in North Dakota’s airports is vital to secure the longevity of our transportation infrastructure and foster economic growth. These federal funds will help these North Dakota Airports make improvements to runaways and other structural projects.”
Hoeven said, “In order to support our communities’ ongoing growth, we need to have quality transportation infrastructure in place, Today’s awards will support continued efforts to meet the demand for transportation and other aviation services, helping ensure future prosperity and safety.”
In the region, Cooperstown Municipal Airport received $311,364. These federal funds will be used to improve runways and will fund a seal coating to maintain safety of the runways.

Administrator Michael Huerta to North Dakota to see firsthand the aviation challenges facing the western part of the state. During the visit, Huerta traveled to Williston and learned more about the drastic rise in passenger enplanements, placing major stress on airport infrastructure. In addition, addressing North Dakota’s transportation infrastructure needs is an important component to her Strong & Safe Communities Initiative.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – An early morning fire damaged the Knights of Columbus building in Grand Forks.
The blaze began shortly before 2 a.m. Monday. Officials say a couch outside the building started on fire, and the flames spread to the building.
Investigators did not immediately determine what caused the couch to start on fire.
Damage was contained to the outside of the building. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a Mandan man who died in a crash on the city’s Main Street.
Authorities say 34-year-old James Samuels was driving a vehicle that crashed into the rear of a semitrailer at a Main Street intersection on Friday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at a Bismarck hospital.
No one in the truck was injured.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A federal magistrate judge says a convicted con man accused of passing himself off as an FBI agent in the North Dakota oil patch should not be released before sentencing.
Steven Goldmann pleaded guilty in February to an illegal weapons charge, after federal authorities agreed to drop four counts of impersonating an officer. Authorities say he regularly displayed a badge and gun.
A defense attorney says Goldmann suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his Air Force service in Iraq and should be allowed to seek treatment in St. Cloud, Minnesota before his Sept. 25 sentencing..
The government argued that Goldmann has yet to answer to an amended warrant in Tennessee.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles Miller says Goldmann is a flight risk and a danger to the community
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Free checkups of car seats for children will be offered in North Dakota throughout the week as part of a national effort that stresses child passenger safety.
The North Dakota Department of Health in encouraging parents and caregivers to take advantage of the inspections to ensure their children are in the right car seats for their age and size, and that seats are installed correctly.
The department says car crashes continue to be a leading cause of death for children. Officials say more than 600 children in the U.S. under the age of 13 could have survived a crash in 2013 if they had been restrained.
The inspections are part of Child Passenger Safety Week that runs from Sunday through Sept. 19.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University is holding required workshops for incoming students focusing on sexual assault prevention, relationship violence and stalking.
40 sessions are being offered in the first three weeks of classes. The sessions last 90 minutes and cover topics including consent, alcohol and the cycle of violence.
Kelsey Keimig is the school’s assistant director of sexual assault prevention and advocacy. She says hosting the workshops when students arrive on campus shows them the university cares about their safety. She says members of the community should step in if they “see something going on that shouldn’t be.”
Lecturer Laura Vogel says the workshops are conducive to the students’ safety because some of them have not been exposed to topics involving sexual assault, including the definition of consent.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Visitors from China and 14 other countries will be in North Dakota to learn about the state’s agribusinesses.
The North Dakota Trade Office says about 75 representatives of different nations will participate in the Big Iron International Visitor’s Program, which is aimed at helping agribusinesses expand sales abroad. The program is part of the Big Iron Farm Show that starts Tuesday at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds.
The Big Iron Farm Show includes hundreds of exhibit booths showcasing farm equipment and other agribusiness products and services.
The international visitors will include representatives from the Chinese province of Shandong. The state’s trade office says this will be the first visit of Shandong government officials to North Dakota since the establishment of the sister-state relationship in February 2014.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A Williston business plans to expand its production of a soil stimulator with help from a city grant.
Leonardite Products is making a $2 million move to boost its capacity tenfold. The company is expected to add 20 jobs.
Leonardite, which is named after the first director of the North Dakota Geological Survey, is found between white dolomite shales in the first roughly 20 feet below the surface. The substance helps increase water retention and soil richness.
The business is getting a $162,000 grant from a city fund that will be used to buy down interest on loans.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – A man accused of killing the 2-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson two years ago is set to stand trial in South Dakota.
Opening statements in the case of 29-year-old Joseph Patterson are scheduled to begin Monday.
Patterson has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and other charges in the October 2013 death of Tyrese Robert Ruffin, who was the son of his girlfriend and Peterson.
Investigators allege that Patterson assaulted Tyrese while they were alone in a Sioux Falls apartment. The boy died at a hospital and doctors determined that the blows to his head couldn’t have been accidental.
Patterson has denied hurting Tyrese and said he choked on a fruit snack.
Patterson faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder.

The Buckeyes were a unanimous choice last week, but they have since lost two of the first-place votes to Michigan State. That helped the Spartans jump one spot to No. 4 after their three-point win at home to Oregon, which slipped five spots to No. 12.
Alabama and TCU remain second and third respectively, with Baylor rounding out the top five. Sixth-ranked Southern Cal is followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida State and UCLA.

NEW YORK (AP) – Novak Djokovic (JOH’-koh-vihch) knocked off Roger Federer last night for his 10th Grand Slam title and second at the U.S. Open. The two waited out a three-hour rain delay before Djokovic took a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win against Federer, who was seeking his 18th Grand Slam title. It’s the second time Djokovic has won three major championships in the same year.

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) – Lydia Ko fired an 8-under 63 to win the Evian Championship and become the youngest major champion in LPGA Tour history.
The South Korean-born New Zealander ran away for a six-shot win over Lexi Thompson at the final major of the season.
Ko is 18 years, 4 months and 20 days old. She eclipsed the previous record set by American Morgan Pressel (PREH’-sehl), who was 18 years, 10 months and nine days old when she won the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

UNDATED (AP) – Three-time NBA MVP Moses Malone has died at 60.
A Norfolk, Virginia Police Department spokesman confirmed that Malone died in a Norfolk hotel room and that there was no indication of foul play. Malone’s body was discovered when he failed to report to a celebrity golf tournament in which he was scheduled to play.
The Hall of Fame center was part of the 76ers’ 1983 NBA championship team.
Malone is the NBA’s career leader in offensive rebounds and led the league in rebounds per game for five straight seasons from 1980-85.

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Authorities in Kentucky are searching for a man they say shot and killed a state trooper during a chase, then fled on foot. Officials say Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder was hit several times. He had been on the force less than a year. Officials say the chase began as a traffic stop.
NEW YORK (AP) – There’s condemnation from New York officials as well Catholic hierarchy of people trying to scalp what were free tickets to the pope’s visit — in some cases for thousands of dollars. About 80,000 tickets were dispersed through a city-sponsored lottery system for the pope’s Sept. 25 procession through Central Park. The archbishop of New York says tickets were free to give as many people as possible the chance to participate, including those of modest means. Event tickets have been banned on eBay.
BANGKOK (AP) – Thai police now say one of the main shrine bombing suspects is in Turkey. Police had previously said the man may have directed the bombing of the Bangkok shrine that killed 20 people. Several of the suspects in the bombing case are believed to be Turkish.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – Afghan officials are blaming the Taliban for a well-organized attack early today that allowed the escape of more than 350 prison inmates. The deputy governor of Ghazni province says that insurgents wearing military uniforms launched an attack that included using a suicide bomber to breach the compound’s walls. Four guards were killed and seven others were wounded.
