BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Minneapolis-based power company is again asking North Dakota regulators to endorse plans for some solar projects in Minnesota.
Xcel Energy Inc. has about 87,000 customers in North Dakota. The company is proposing the solar projects to comply with Minnesota’s mandate that investor-owned utilities get some of their power from the sun.
The North Dakota Public Service Commission on Wednesday is slated to review Xcel’s solar projects that would create about 100 megawatts of power.
North Dakota’s backing would allow Xcel to pass on some costs to North Dakota customers. But North Dakota regulators have shot down such plans in the past, saying solar projects don’t provide the best option for low-cost electricity for North Dakota customers.

CANTON, S.D. (AP) – The ex-girlfriend of a man accused of killing her 2-year-old son says she lost her “entire world” when her child died.
Ashley Doohen testified Tuesday in the trial of Joseph Patterson. Patterson is accused of killing Tyrese Robert Ruffin, who was the son of Doohen and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Both sides gave opening statements Tuesday.
The Argus Leader reports that Lincoln County State’s Attorney Tom Wollman described to jurors Patterson’s life leading up to Ruffin’s death.
Wollman says Patterson texted his girlfriend the day Ruffin died in October 2013 that he felt he was becoming “bitter at the world.”
Defense attorney Tim Rensch emphasized Patterson’s role in calling authorities for help. He said there’s “no way” evidence will show Patterson hit Ruffin.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s pheasant population has increased by nearly one-third over the past year, thanks to a pleasant winter and favorable weather during the spring nesting season.
The estimated 30 percent increase in birds over 2014 mirrors increases in nearby states including South Dakota, where the pheasant population is up about 42 percent. North Dakota Game and Fish Wildlife Chief Jeb Williams says that could spread out hunting pressure, raising the prospects for an even more successful hunt this fall.
North Dakota’s regular pheasant season opens Oct. 10 and continues through next Jan. 3.
Pheasant hunting is big business in North Dakota. More than 50,000 hunters go after upland game including pheasants in a typical year, with each of them spending an average of nearly $100 per day.
