Officials have lifted a statewide travel alert that was in place for North Dakota.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation said in a news
release that conditions have improved following early blowing and
drifting snow.

Officials cautioned there were still areas of scattered ice and
snow on state highways.
The National Weather Service reported Bismarck had received 2
inches of snow, Jamestown had 3 inches and Glen Ullin had 3.8
inches.

South Dakota transportation officials have reopened all stretches of Interstate 90 that were closed due to a weekend snow storm, but a large stretch of Interstate 29 in the eastern part of the state remains closed.

    Update…. South Dakota transportation officials
have reopened all stretches of Interstates 90 and 29 that were
closed due to a weekend snow storm.
The last closed stretch, on I-29 between Watertown and Sioux
Falls, reopened Monday morning.
The storm dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of South Dakota. Transportation officials are urging drivers to use caution because many roads remain icy.

A slow-moving storm has dumped at least 16 inches of snow on parts of Minnesota, blanketing the Twin Cities, making some rural roads impassable and leading to at least one fatal crash.

The heaviest snowfall the Twin Cities has experienced in two years led to the cancellation of dozens of flights at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Sunday and caused hundreds of traffic accidents around the state.

Blizzard conditions, blowing and drifting snow made visibility so poor that the state Department of Transportation pulled snowplows off the highways Sunday afternoon in southwest and west Minnesota.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported nearly 600 crashes by Sunday night. The patrol says one person was killed in a crash involving a semi on Highway 61 near Red Wing.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Fire Department was called out Sunday evening about 10:50-p.m., to 17-06 Western Park Village.

No injuries reports, with four units and 26 city fire fighters on the scene about a half hour.

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — On Friday (Dec 7, 2012) another flood buyout, house was being moved along Chatauqua Boulevard in Valley City.

This was the second of three structures being removed, in that area with another waiting for removal.

This home belonging to Larry and Margaret Doyle, and was being moved east of town.

In other instances, flood buyout structures are being demolished.

On Monday this week, (Dec 3, 2012) an incident occurred when a trackhoe tipped over sideways and into the empty basement of a building being demolished, one of the Valley City flood buyout properties.

No one was injured in accident.

The trackhoe is owned Paul Diegel, of Six-D’s Construction.

The property is located on Main Street, near the Sheyenne River.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is cautioning winter anglers about early ice.

Officials say ice on lakes might not be safe this time of year for a number of reasons, including daily temperature swings that affect ice strength and significant variations in ice thickness even in small areas.

A couple of ice fishing houses fell through the ice on Lake Ashtabula last week.

Anglers are encouraged to take precautions such as wearing a lifejacket and carrying a cellphone.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says a so-called phishing scam is circulating around North Dakota.

Stenehjem says people should never give out personal or financial information over the telephone in response to unsolicited calls.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s largest city is planning to offer buyouts to residents of 56 homes next year as part of a flood protection plan.

Fargo officials say the buyouts will likely cost about $24 million. The program is voluntary.

Homeowners are being offered 110 percent of the assessed value of the property, plus a $5,000 moving allowance.

The home on the current list with the highest assessed value is about $900,000, with the average value of all 56 homes at about $370,000.

Ann and Todd Haggart, who are 26-year residents of their home on River Drive South, say  they will miss their property, but no longer have to live in limbo.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota city in the middle of the
state’s oil boom is poised to top $300 million in new building
permits for 2012.
Minot officials say the explosion in requests for permits
includes commercial and residential projects. They say the hotel
market has been especially busy.
City inspectors list total activity for the year at nearly $292
million as of Nov. 30.
The city saw nearly $65 million in building permits in October,
the highest monthly total. Officials say contractors were pushing
to get work done before the ground froze.

around town without seeing something going up.”

The award is given annually by Temple Beth El.
The 93-year-old Bright has been a federal judge since he was
appointed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968.
Bright has been a teacher at the University of North Dakota,
University of Minnesota, St. Louis University and the University of
Hawaii law schools.
Bright says  he has received other awards but is proud of this one because it shows recognition from the community.

RICHARDTON, N.D. (AP) – A small town in southwestern North Dakota is getting something back that it lost seven years ago. It’s a grocery store.

The nearest supermarket for Richardton, a town of 529 residents, is 15 miles away in Hebron. The largest city, Dickinson, is 23 miles away.

Eighty-three-year-old Richardton resident Clara Hauck says  the store is especially important for older citizens who want to avoid the heavy traffic in the oil patch region.

Hauck says Richardton has had a grocery store off and on throughout the years.

The town is paying for the store through a Bank of North Dakota loan program that allows communities to buy down interest on loans.

business, nursing and counseling, starting in March. People in
western North Dakota can earn a master’s degree from Mary, a
private Catholic school, through the public Dickinson State.
The schools also are exploring the idea of a program in which
students who earn four-year undergraduate degrees at Dickinson
State could enter into a fifth year with Mary to complete a
master’s degree.
The DSU collaboration is Mary’s fourth such initiative within
the past year. Mary also has agreements with Bismarck State,
Arizona State and Alexandria Technical and Community College in

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – A report on state-run TV suggests Iranian
technicians may have broken encryptions from an advanced CIA spy
drone captured last year. Iran says the country’s Revolutionary
Guard has decoded all of the data from the RQ-170 Sentinel craft.
The Guard also claimed last week that it captured another U.S.
drone.

CAIRO (AP) – There’s evidence of how jittery the government is
about the Dec. 15 constitutional referendum as the Egyptian
military assumes responsibility for security and protecting state
institutions until the results are in. The army took up the task
today in line with a decree a day earlier from President Mohammed
Morsi. Opposition groups reject the new document.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama’s efforts to rally
public support for his fiscal cliff agenda take him to Michigan
today. He’ll tour an engine plant and speak to auto workers. Some
rank and file Republicans, meanwhile, are asking their leaders to
be more pragmatic about the negotiations with the White House.

PAULSBORO, N.J. (AP) – The cleanup is still going on in southern

into the air. Air monitors tested 262 homes and 23 businesses
Friday and Saturday. Vinyl chloride was not detected. The
