Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) – James River Community & Senior Center in Jamestown is expected to move the Center One location to space in the former Jamestown Hospital location, the $10 million “Legacy Center,” in February 2013.

James River Community Center Executive Director, Laurie McGuire, says, plans are well under way for the move.

New features at the Community Center after the move will include, new kitchen equipment, more dining tables.

Ms. McGuire adds, volunteers are being lined up for the move which will including moving

the kitchen, and the snack bar, eleven offices, three party rooms, and catering equipment.

Those wishing to volunteer may call the senior center, at 252-2882.

A portion of Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s services remain in the building, and newly added is ME’s 21st Century Learning Center, day care.

The James River Valley Library System looked at the site as a possible joint library location, but has decided to pursue other options, including the county space currently being occupied by the James River Community Center, and James River Transit, in Southeast Jamestown.

Lutheran Social Services has purchased the building and has drawn up the plans, and will operate the facility, which will have 10,000 square feet for 51 tenant units, and 40,000 square feet of commercial space.

When the building is completed in June of 2013, L.S.S. plans to hold an open house for the community.

 

  VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – A Valley City woman has collected Nativity scenes in all shapes and sizes.
 
Sara Anderson-Moore started collecting Nativity scenes in 1992. Her collection has grown to more than 300, and the sets have come from around the world.
 
     Many are gifts from family and friends.
 
     .  She keeps several on display at her home throughout the year.
 
     Anderson-Moore says her dream is to someday have her collection on permanent display.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Funeral services have been scheduled for two North Dakota National Guard soldiers killed in Afghanistan last week.
 
     Fulkerson Funeral Home says services for Sgt. 1st Class Darren Linde, of Devils Lake, will be at 1 p.m. Mountain time today at the Richland County Event Center in Sidney, Mont.
 
     Funeral services for Spc. Tyler Orgaard will be at 10:30 a.m. Central time Thursday at Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck. 
 
     The two men died in a roadside bomb attack a week ago. Linde’s remains were flown into Sidney on Sunday and turned over to his family. Orgaard’s remains were being flown into Bismarck on Monday afternoon.
 

Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, along with NDNG senior leadership will be attending the funerals.

  North Dakota Gov.  Dalrymple is directing the flags to fly at half-staff from
sunrise to sunset today to honor Linde.

Spc. Ian Charles Placek, 23, Bismarck, wounded in the same attack, was listed in stable condition at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. He will go to Ft. Riley, Kan., for further medical treatment and evaluation.

 

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Authorities are looking for five boys who

escaped from the Youth Correctional Center at Mandan after

assaulting a correctional officer.

Police believe the 15-, 16- and 17-year-old boys are in the

Minot area. They are considered violent and possibly armed.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Fischer tells The Bismarck Tribune

that a vehicle stolen from the Mandan facility was founded

abandoned in Minot on Monday night. He says it belonged to the YCC officer who was attacked on Sunday. Fischer says the officer was not seriously hurt.

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have charged a man in the

attempted kidnapping of a woman at a Minot Walmart.

The Minot Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/TNs9VG) that

25-year-old Jacob Greeman is accused of entering the back seat of a woman’s car in the store parking lot early Saturday and holding a hand over her mouth and a knife to her throat. She was able to get away and called police from inside the store.

A telephone call to Greeman’s home on Tuesday rang unanswered.

Court documents do not list an attorney for him.

Greeman is charged with terrorizing, breaking into a motor

vehicle, making a criminal attempt at kidnapping and possessing

drug paraphernalia. Police say the woman does not know Greeman and the alleged crime appears to be random.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Grand Forks woman has admitted to providing
the heroin that authorities say led to the death of popular Fargo
blues guitarist Cody Connor last summer.
24-year-old Nicole Wadsworth pleaded guilty Monday in federal court
in Fargo to conspiracy and drug charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney
Chris Myers says Wadsworth faces at least 20 years in prison and
could get a life sentence.
     Myers says Wadsworth was involved in distributing the heroin
that 26-year-old Seth Lund injected into Connors in June, leading
to Connors’ overdose death. Lund pleaded guilty in October to a
drug charge and is to be sentenced Jan. 23.

 

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – The shooting deaths of three horses in
McKenzie County continue to stump sheriff’s officials.
     The Humane Society is offering a reward for information leading to the
identification, arrest and conviction of whoever shot and killed
the horses, which were owned by breeder Dale Kling.
     The horses were found fatally shot in a pasture south of Watford
City.
     Kling’s brother, Russ Kling, tells the newspaper that one of the
mares was shot at least eight times. Two were discovered Dec. 2,
while the third was found a day later. All three brood mares had
colts that weren’t shot.
     People with information are asked to call the McKenzie County
Sheriff’s Office at 701-444-3654.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Wheat Commission is holding
its annual meeting in Fargo.
     The two-day event Tuesday and Wednesday will include discussion
about market promotion programs and export opportunities, as well
as wheat research. County representatives also will be providing
input on commission programs and funding for the coming year.
     The wheat commission works to increase the use of wheat grown in
North Dakota. Farmers fund the work with a checkoff of 1  1/2 cents on
each bushel of wheat they sell.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Backers of a coal-to-liquid fuel plant proposed for western North Dakota say they will ask for more time to study the project.
 
     North American Coal Corporation spokesman David Straley tells The Associated Press that developers will ask for a fifth extension before year’s end. He says developers still need favorable coal legislation and a clear U.S. energy policy for the $4 billion project to move forward.
 
     The North Dakota Industrial Commission in 2007 committed up to $10 million in state aid from coal tax collections to help determine the project’s potential. Backers have sought an extension on weighing the project’s potential every year since.
 
     More than $1.3 million of state aid has been used studying the project to date.

(AP) – The New England Patriots picked up their seventh straight win as Tom Brady threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-14 rout of Houston, leaving the Pats a game behind the Texans for the AFC lead. Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was 19 of 32 for 232 yards, no touchdowns and an interception as the 11-2 Texans ended a six-game winning streak.   EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) – Adrian Peterson has been picked as
the Minnesota Vikings Community Man of the Year for 2012.
     The Vikings announced the annual award on Monday.
     Peterson is scheduled to be honored at an event on Tuesday night
at the Sports Authority in Eden Prairie near Vikings headquarters.
Peterson and several of his teammates will help kids from Special
Olympics shop for athletic gear with gift cards provided by the
store.

 Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says Robert Griffin
III has a Grade 1 sprain of a ligament in the right knee but might
be able to play in next week’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
The rookie quarterback was hit at the end of a scramble late in
regulation in the Redskins’ 31-28 overtime win over the Baltimore
Ravens.
     – Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler says he expects to play
this week against Green Bay. Cutler left Sunday’s loss at Minnesota
with a sore neck, but says he got treatment and “unless something
drastic happens” he’ll be ready to go. Cutler missed a game last
month with a concussion.

 UNDATED (AP) – Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue (TAG’-lee-uh-boo) is expected to rule this afternoon on the latest round of player appeals in the league’s bounty probe. That’s according to a person close to the decision who says any potential punishment will be delayed by a week. The NFL’s decision to delay potential sanctions for four current or former New Orleans Saints means linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Will Smith may play Sunday when New Orleans hosts Tampa Bay.

 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Derrick Williams says he’s trying to stay patient with a lack of playing time for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The former No. 2 overall pick hasn’t played in four of Minnesota’s previous nine games. Williams says he just keeps working in practice and staying ready.

     MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Former Minnesota first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz has been chosen to manage the Twins’ Class A affiliate in the Florida State League. The team announced their minor league assignments for 2013 yesterday. Mientkiewicz played for the Twins from 1998 to 2004.

 

 NHL LABOR

     NEW YORK (AP) – The NHL has eliminated 16 more days from the
regular-season schedule, and the entire season will be lost if a
deal with the players’ association isn’t reached soon.
     The league has now wiped out all games through Dec. 30.
     Negotiations between the league and the players’ association
broke off last week, but NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said
Sunday the sides are trying to restart talks this week.

      UNDATED (AP) – Indiana tops The Associated Press men’s
basketball poll for the sixth straight week.
     The Hoosiers are followed in the Top 25 by Duke, Michigan,
Syracuse and Florida.
     Louisville drops a notch to sixth, ahead of Ohio State, Arizona,
Kansas and Illinois.
     The AP women’s poll has Stanford at No. 1, followed by
Connecticut, Baylor, Duke and Notre Dame.

 BOXING

     SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) – The late Arturo Gatti and five-time world
champion Virgil Hill have been elected to the International Boxing
Hall of Fame.
     Gatti died three years ago in Brazil under mysterious
circumstances. He won titles in two weight divisions.
     Hill won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics and defended his
light heavyweight title 20 times.

 

In world and national news…

 WASHINGTON (AP) – The federal Reserve has its eye on the fiscal cliff. The Fed is expected at the end of this week to announce a bond buying program to support the economy, though the plan is not a rescue option if there’s no agreement on avoiding automatic January tax hikes and spending cuts. Meanwhile, there’s been no outward progress between the White House and Republicans.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – The Obama administration is moving closer to recognizing the new Syrian opposition council as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people at an international conference on the crisis in Morocco this week. It’s the latest step in the intensifying diplomacy that officials hope will end Syrian President Bashar Assad’s embattled regime.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – An international study done every four years says Asian students lead the way while U.S. students still do better than average globally even though they lag behind their peers in Asia and Europe. The study says fourth-graders have improved their scores in reading and math but progress seems to fall off by eighth grade, where math and science scores are stagnant.
 
     DENVER (AP) – There were no crowds and little fanfare as Colorado became the second state to legalize marijuana. And state officials planned it that way. Just a handful of activists lit up on the Capitol steps. Gov. John Hickenlooper quietly announced the official approval on Twitter and email after the fact.
 
     LONDON (AP) – British lawmakers are demanding the government water down plans to keep track of phone calls, email and Internet activity – a bill critics dub a “snooper’s charter.” The Communications Data Bill would force telecoms service providers to retain for a year records of all phone and email traffic and website visits, though not the content. An all-party parliamentary committee calls the draft “overkill.”
