Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Dec 18, 2012) — At Monday evening’s Jamestown Public School Board meeting Superintendent Robert Toso talked about ensuring the safety of Jamestown Public Schools.
Toso says there are already safety measures in place in te school district.
That includes drills theld during the school year for students and staff.
He says the school resource officer is an asset to the school district, a go-to person for safety concerns.
Toso will meet with Jamestown Public Schools administrators and the School Resource Officer this week, to discuss continued safety measures.
Toso made those and other comments, following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, last Friday.
Also at Monday’s meeting, a report indicates that the anti-bullying curriculums in the school district are by in large, effective.
A report was given in the form of the Olweus survey results, a district-wide anti-bullying program, approved by the school board.
The report said, the data is very positive and what the school district is doing “seems to be going well.”
Each school in the district uses different types of anti-bullying curriculums.
Assistant Principal Mark Stillwell said the survey results will be presented to middle school students after the Christmas recess, so issues can be specified and worked on.
At the meeting Superintendent Toso announced that Gussner Elementary School has been selected by the North Dakota Department of Instruction to apply as a Blue Ribbon School, one of three schools in the state selected to apply for the award.
It honors only the highest achieving schools in the country. It’s the first time a school in Jamestown has been selected to apply.
