Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Dec 19, 2012) The new 9-1-1 Dispatch Center equipment has been installed .
The next generation equipment was installed at the Law Enforcement Center in Jamestown with no interuption in service on Wednesday.
Officials say there will be adjustments to the system over the next few weeks.
Some of the new features benefit the deaf and hearing-impaired.
Future 9-1-1 features will include the ability to send text messages.
The Stutsman County equipment comes with a price tag of $163,000.
It’s pairing with Richland County,with that county paying equipment costs of $158,000.
Costs were paid from 911 funding accumulated and saved over years by both counties.
Stutsman County’s system was put in service in 1999, and was an analog telephone system, created in the 1970s and 1980s.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Dec 19, 2012) — The Jamestown Stutsman County, United Way Campaign for 2012 is at the mid-point, and has reached about 27% of the goal, or about $53,000.

Megan Aldinger said the figure is in line with last year’s donations.
Also on our show, Lynette Stoddart said, the kick-off event this year was excellent, with a hoop shoot, cake walk and other activities, noting a great turnout from the community, and so many wonderful sponsors who helped make the event possible.
However, every year has posed a challenge, but officials are very hopeful the community will pull through and help the United Way to reach it’s goal to give back to the community in endless ways.
Our goal is a little higher this year, based on a greater need in the community, at $200,000.

The United Way Board is comprised of volunteers. Currently there are nearly 20 people on the board, who are listed on the Facebook page.
Individuals who donate give varying amounts, which are all appreciated.

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Dec 19, 2012) — The annual Santa Cops and Kids event on Monday (Dec 17, 2012) in Valley City, included 40 children, shopping with their sponsor, and taking part in other activities.
The kids shopped for presents and wrapped the gifts, had their photos taken with Santa, and were taken for pizza.
Police say a number of area businesses and individuals assist with the activities, including wrapping gifts for the children or contribute money donations for the program.
The event helps less fortunate area children celebrate Christmas while having the experience of gaining trust and friendships with law enforcement personnel.
Participants Santa Cops and Kids included: Valley City police Department, Barnes County, and RansomCounty Sheriff’s Offices, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, state Task Force, Lisbon and Valley City Fire Departments.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Dec 19, 2012) — An Open House was held Wednesday afternoon at the National Buffalo Museum for Felicia Sargeant, who is stepping down as the Museum’s Director,
She says her last day at the Museum is Friday December 21, 2012.
She told friends and supporters that leaving after 10 years in the position was a tough Decision, adding that after awhile “everyone needs a change.”
Ms Sargeant also thanks the community for its support over the years.
Ms. Sargeant has been selected as the new Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Executive, starting her new position, after the first of the year.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Dec 19, 2012) — A Buffalo City Tourism news release says, the Jamestown College Knight, the Lincoln Lion and Dakota Thunder Junior together raised $620.88 in a couple of short hours this week at Walmart and Coborn’s.
All proceeds will benefit the mission of the Salvation Army.
Accepting the challenge to ‘ring the bell’ for charity brought the highest honor in 2012 to the Jamestown College Knight who alone raised $219.85 standing in front of Sears at the Buffalo Mall for an hour.
That is an all time high for that location according to Lt. Mitch Brecto of the Salvation Army.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP Dec 19, 2012) – Taxable sales and purchases in North Dakota during July, August and September grew nearly 23 percent compared to the third quarter of last year, to more than $6.7 billion.
Tax Commissioner Cory Fong says North Dakota’s wholesale and retail trade sectors were strong performers in the third quarter. Thirteen of 15 industries reported growth during the third quarter of 2012. Two sectors reported a slowdown: educational, health care and social services, and transportation and warehousing.
The western oil patch cities of New Town, Tioga and Watford City all saw large percentage increases in taxable sales over the year.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo police have arrested a suspect in the robbery of a bank on the city’s south side.
54-year-old Timothy Patrick McKenna of Fargo was arrested by police at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
McKenna is awaiting charges for robbery, after he allegedly entered Gate City Bank on Monday, indicated he had a gun and demanded cash.
Chief Keith Ternes says police received more than 40 tips after the release of bank video footage.
Ternes says some of the stolen money has been recovered, but he did not specify how much, adding only that “a substantial amount” was taken from the bank.
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – Schools in New Town were in lockdown yesterday while law enforcement responded to a barricaded situation in a neighborhood near the high school. An FBI spokesman said Wednesday that a man wanted by law enforcement in Colorado on narcotics charges had barricaded himself inside a residence in New Town. That’s located on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Kansas man who owns a custom combining business was sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to taking more than $9,000 in corn from an Emmons County farmer.
48-year-old Kevin Clark pleaded guilty on Monday to felony theft of property.
Clark is the owner of American Quality Harvesting and Trucking, also known as Clark Farms, of Hesston, Kan. The company was in North Dakota in late summer harvesting for farmers.
South Central District Judge Cynthia Feland ordered Clark to repay the farmer for the corn and pay $1,950 in fines and court fees.
Feland also allowed Clark to have his probation transferred to Kansas.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A longtime employee of a North Dakota credit union has been ordered to pay back more than $130,000 she took from the company. Georgia Schwartz of Glen Ullin, was charged in federal court with embezzlement and misapplication from a credit union. She pleaded guilty in October. A judge yesterday also ordered Schwartz to forfeit two homes that she owned.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Potato stocks in North Dakota are up 29 percent over the year.
The latest figures from the Agriculture Department show that growers, dealers and processors held 16.8 million hundredweight of potatoes in storage on Dec. 1. Current stocks represent 67 percent of production, down from 69 percent in 2011.
Russets account for 67 percent of the total, the same as last year.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Public Service Commission is holding a ceremony today to honor commissioner Kevin Cramer.
Cramer is resigning from the commission at the end year of the year after he was elected to the U.S. House in November. He will be sworn into office on Jan. 3.
The PSC is holding the ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial Hall at the State Capitol. The event is free and open to the public.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota has hired former state Representative Pam Gulleson to be vice president of Public Affairs. Gulleson will assume the responsibilities of the newly-created position next month. Gulleson lost to Kevin Cramer in the U.S. House race last month.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – State data show the amount of natural gas that was burned off as a byproduct of oil production is dropping as crude production rises.
State Department of Mineral Resources statistics show natural gas production in October was at record levels, at more than 796,000 million cubic feet daily.
Records show the percentage of natural gas that was flared in October was 30 percent. The record high for flaring was set in September 2011 at 36 percent.
Officials say the amount of natural gas that is captured is increasing as new processing plants and gathering systems are built.
The Energy Information Administration says less than 1 percent of natural gas is flared from oil fields nationwide, and less than 3 percent worldwide.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s workers’ compensation agency is offering safety training to companies in the state’s booming oil patch to try and lessen the number of job-related deaths and injuries.
Officials say injuries are happening most often to employees who have less than a year on the job.
Workforce Safety and Insurance data show 29 workers were killed on the job in the fiscal year that ended in July. Thirteen of the fatalities occurred in oil patch-related occupations, and seven of those deaths were from vehicle crashes.
WSI director Bryan Klipfel says North Dakota’s robust economy led by its booming energy sector has spurred an increase in the number of employers, workers and claims. And he says oil patch-related occupations often are more dangerous than other jobs.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Bismarck City Commission has offered the job of police chief to West Monroe, La., Police Chief Christopher Elg.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the commission selected Eng Tuesday night over three other finalists. Details of the offer were not disclosed.
The Tribune reports that Elg has 28 years of law enforcement experience and has been the police chief at West Monroe for nine years. He would replace Chief Keith Witt, who retired in April.
Bismarck Deputy Police Chief Dan Donlin has been named as an alternate candidate if Elg does not accept the city’s offer by midnight Thursday.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – NCAA officials say a limited number of standing room tickets are available for the Football Championship Subdivision title game between North Dakota State and Sam Houston State.
The tickets are set for online sale at 10 a.m. Thursday at NCAA.com/fcs.
Tickets are $30 and provide access to watch the game from the concourse. Seats are officially sold out.
The game is scheduled Jan. 5 in Frisco, Texas.
The year’s championship game is a rematch of last year’s game won by NDSU 17-6.. It was the school’s first Division I championship.
The FCS championship game is staying in North Texas for at least three more years.

DALLAS (AP) – Dirk Nowitzki has gone through his first full practice with the Dallas Mavericks since undergoing knee surgery that forced the 11-time All-Star to miss every game so far this season.
After practice, Nowitzki gave no real timetable on when he might make his season debut, except to say “maybe any time after Christmas.”
Nowitizki had arthroscopic surgery on his ailing right knee Oct. 19.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has been voted Associated Press coach of the year after leading the Fighting Irish to a spot in the BCS championship game.
No. 1 Notre Dame is 12-0 and will play No. 2 Alabama for the national title on Jan. 7 in Miami. The Fighting Irish are playing for their first championship since 1988.
Kelly received 25 votes from the AP college football poll panel. Penn State’s Bill O’Brien was second with 14 votes.

UNDATED (AP) – Ichiro Suzuki will remain with the New York Yankees after the 10-time Gold Glove outfielder accepted a two-year, $13 million contract. The 39-year-old will make $6.5 million in each of the next two seasons and needs 394 hits to reach 3,000 for his major league career. Suzuki’s batting average jumped from .261 with the Mariners to .322 with the Yankees, with five homers, 27 RBIs and 14 steals.
– The Los Angeles Angels have traded Kendrys (KEHN’-drees) Morales to the Seattle Mariners for left-hander Jason Vargas. The 29-year-old Morales. Morales hit .273 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs last season. Vargas led Seattle in wins last season, going 14-11 with a 3.85 ERA.
The Red Sox have signed right-hander Ryan Dempster to a two-year contract. The signing came six days after two people familiar with the negotiations said Dempster had agreed to a $26.5 million deal. The 35-year-old has pitched more than 200 innings in four of the past five seasons. He went 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA this year playing for the Cubs and Rangers.

Penn State voted AP sports story of year again
NEW YORK (AP) – The Penn State child sex abuse scandal was selected as the sports story of the year by U.S. editors and news directors in an annual vote conducted by The Associated Press. For the first time since the AP began announcing a sports story of the year in 1990, the same issue was selected twice in a row.
The Penn State saga received 1,420 points and 109 first-place votes. The No. 2 sports story, Lance Armstrong stripped of his seven Tour de France titles, had 10 first-place votes and 1,008 points.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Two senior State Department officials are expected to get an earful today when they attend back-to-back hearings about September’s deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya. A scathing report blames bureaucratic failures for poor security at the facility. It was overrun by extremists who killed four Americans. Four State Department officials resigned yesterday.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Several states in the Midwest are being blanketed by snow from the first major storm of the season. Parts of northern Michigan could see as much as 14 inches of snow by tomorrow. Other areas also expected also get about a foot of accumulation. Driving is difficult on many roads because of icy conditions and winds creating poor visibility. Two people were killed in Wisconsin when their car slid into the path of a truck.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – The mood continues to be much more solemn than seasonal in Newtown, Conn., where there will be five funerals today for some of the victims of last week’s carnage. There were nine funerals yesterday. Meanwhile, the state medical examiner says arrangements are being made out of state for the burial of the shooter’s mother. The official won’t say whether Adam Lanza’s body remains unclaimed.
JOHANNESBURG (AP) – Former South African President Nelson Mandela is spending a thirteenth day in a South African hospital after being diagnosed with a lung infection and undergoing gallstone surgery. There’s been no update on his medical status. Mandela is 94.
CHICAGO (AP) – The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of two convicted bank robbers who broke out of a 20th floor jail cell in Chicago earlier this week. Federal agents have raided houses and are reviewing records for anybody with ties to the former inmates.
