Arthur “Art” Kirschenman, age 85, of Valley City, ND, died Sunday, January 24th at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 5th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the church. Inurnment will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND in the spring.
Mr. Kirschenmann was born Oct. 12, 1930, on the family farm southwest of Streeter, N.D., the son of Fred and Karolina (Liebig) Kirschenmann. He attended rural schools until 1942, when the family moved to Gackle. He graduated from Gackle High School and then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. He served in the United State Air Force, stationed in Georgia. After discharge, he was active in the Fargo Air National Guard. After college, he was employed by Corwin Churchill Auto Parts store in Fargo. In 1965, he moved to Valley City to manage and then own General Trading Auto Parts Store. On May 21, 1967, he married the love of his life, Arlene Hauck, at St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wishek. They lived in Valley City along the beautiful Sheyenne River. In 1997, he retired and continued to work for the state maintaining rest areas along Interstate 94. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for many years. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and Saturday night suppers out on the town with Arlene.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of 48 years; one brother, Harry (Shirley), Okemah, OK, sisters-in-law, Bobby Kirschenmann, Citrus Heights, CA and Rosa Kirschenmann, Oregon and many loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Adam, Reinhold, Ben, and George, and sisters, Pauline and Christine.
