Three rounds of snow coming…

LIGHT SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. DURING THE EVENING INTO LATER TONIGHT.  IT WILL ALSO SPREAD INTO NORTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA. AN INCH OR LESS OF SNOW IS EXPECTED.

 

ANOTHER SHOT OF LIGHT SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO THE AREA ON FRIDAY.

ONCE AGAIN AN INCH OR LESS OF SNOW IS EXPECTED.

 

A THIRD ROUND OF SNOW IS EXPECTED BY SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. WITH THIS SYSTEM NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE FAIRLY GUSTY…WHICH COULD LEAD TO SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES IN OPEN COUNTRY.

Jamestown (CSi) Area veterans are invited to participate in the National Salute to Veterans Week, February 14, 20, 2016.

On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Stutsman County Veterans Service Officer, David Bratton said, the Fargo VA Medical Center will be chock full of activities and events, honoring the service of veterans.

Those include a welcome to the Military Order of the Cootie, Miss, Mrs.,and Miss Teen North Dakota, and musical entertainment.

The week is the opportunity for the community to become acquainted with volunteer opportunities within the Fargo VA HCS.

All events are free and most open to all veterans and their families.

Also on our show, Bratton pointed out that the Fargo VA Medical Center on February 5, 2016 from 10-a.m. to 1-p.m., will host a Heath Fair and Go Red For Women Expo.He added that on February 16th at NDSU a Town Hall Meeting is set with North Dakota Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, Lonnie Wangen.

He noted that the VA has expanded benefits for Camp Lejeune veterans who served there from 1953-1987, stemming from exposure to contaminated water at the base.

Bratton reminded veterans that the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month that the Jamestown PTSD Group meets from 12:30p.m., to 2-p.m., for support from combat veterans from the Fargo Vets Center.

Also the Burleigh County van stops in Jamestown to pick up veterans to go to the Fargo VA, and back again.

The office is in the lower level of the Law Enforcement Center in Jamestown, and is open M-F from 8-a.m., to 5-p.m.

 

Jamestown (CSi) At the Jamestown City Planning Commission meeting on Monday February 8, 2016, at City Hall, a Public Hearing will be held to amend an Ordinance.

Discussion will be held between the Planning Commission and city staff regarding goals for 2016, with recommendations from SRF Consulting Group, Inc.

It pertains to Traffic Impact Studies. The proposed amendment would establish requirements for the study of traffic impacts created from new or modifications to existing development.

The work session will be held at the City Hall lower level conference room.

The provision of a traffic impact study with specific development proposals was first discussed with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) during the development of the Land Use and Transportation Plan.The draft ordinance to be discussed as an amendment would set local requirements for the review of traffic impacts to the transportation system resulting from new development.The staff compared traffic impact study requirements of the NDDOT and other cities during the development of the draft ordinance language. The comparison was provided to the Planning Commission for review and discussion in early 2015. The discussion resulted in the determination of many elements of the draft ordinance.The staff recommends, “To accept the findings of staff, and recommend approval of the text amendment to Section 6.7 and Section 9 of Appendix B and Section 11 of Appendix C to require the submittal of a traffic impact study to the City Council.”   BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck man accused of stabbing another man has been charged with attempted murder.
 
     Twenty-eight-year-old Nigel Wakefield allegedly stabbed the man Monday night after being kicked out of a business for disturbing customers. 
 
  Police say they have video surveillance of the alleged attack. Authorities say medical workers told them the victim was lucky to be alive.
 
     Court documents indicate Wakefield is applying for a public defender. A home telephone listing for him could not be found. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. 

 ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) – Officials in Aberdeen say about 40 cattle were loose  Wednesday afternoon, and milling about town.
 
     Brown County Emergency Management director Scott Meints  tells the American News that the cows got away from a livestock auction.
 
     City officials issued an alert Wednesday warning people to use caution if they see the cows. The livestock are primarily on the west side of town.
 
     Meints says multiple agencies were working to keep both the cattle and the public safe, and keep the animals off roadways.

   
In sports…Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown Athletic Department has announced that 157 Jimmie student-athletes have been named to the UJ Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.To achieve this status, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or have achieved a 3.4 grade point average during the 2015 fall semester.A total of 17 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the fall semester with an additional 14 achieving at least a 3.9 grade point average.The list of those named, on line at CSiNewsNow.com

 GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A former North Dakota Miss Basketball is transferring from North Dakota State University to the University of North Dakota.
 
     Holly Johnson was a starting Bison each of the last three seasons, but she sat out this season due to injury. She has a year of college eligibility remaining and will finish out her career as a Fighting Hawk.
 
     Johnson is a 2012 graduate of Minot High School. She leaves NDSU with 854 points in 86 games.

 WASHINGTON (AP) – Federal and state officials traded blame over the lead-contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan, during a combative congressional hearing that also pitted lawmakers against each other.  Democrats on the panel faulted Michigan’s Republican governor, Rick Snyder, while some Republicans targeted the EPA for failing to intervene sooner.
 
     CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) – President Barack Obama is seeking to correct what he calls a “hugely distorted impression” of Muslim-Americans. During his visit to a U.S. mosque outside Baltimore, the president said those who demonize all Muslims for the acts of a few are playing into extremists’ hands. Obama said that he’s heard from young Muslims who are worried they’ll be rounded up and kicked out of the country.
 
     NASHUA, N.H. (AP) – Republican Donald Trump is accusing rival Ted Cruz of stealing the Iowa caucuses and is demanding a do-over. On his official Twitter account, Trump said:  “Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.” No response yet from the Cruz campaign.
 
     FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Self-styled Washington outsider Rand Paul has dropped his struggling Republican campaign for president and is returning to the Senate to run for re-election. Paul placed a disappointing fifth in the Iowa caucuses. In a telephone interview with The Associated Press, Paul was asked whether he intends to endorse another candidate. His reply: “No.”
 
     DERRY, N.H. (AP) – Hillary Clinton is striking back at accusations by her Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders that she is only a progressive “some days.” Speaking at a town hall meeting in Derry, New Hampshire, Clinton called the statement a “low blow,” before listing a series of accomplishments that she described as progressive, such as advocating for women and gay people.
