Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called about 9:38 a.m., Wednesday to the Hong Kong Buffet, at 605 25th Street Southwest in Jamestown, to a kitchen fire.
Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says when the units arrived at the unoccupied building, smoke was coming from the roof vents.
The ladder truck accessed the roof vents.
Fire fighters broke open the front and rear doors, for access.
When they gained entry they discovered the small fire in the kitchen area.
He says the heat detecting system, which sprays a dry chemical, was activated but was unable to contain the fire.
The cause is listed as the cooking unit being left turned on.
MDU and Otter Tail arrived at the scene to attend to the utilities.
Chief Reuther says there was minimal fire damage, but extensive smoke damage to the interior of the building.
No injuries reported.
The units cleared the scene at 10:27 a.m.
There were six city fire units and 26 city fire fighters on the scene.
Restaurant manager Tom Guo said it is too soon to say how long the restaurant would be closed, but cleanup would take some time, adding that his insurance carrier will be contacted.
