CSi   The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, an Enderlin man died after being in a head-on collision Friday evening about 6:56 p.m., about 4 miles west of Enderlin.

The male driver was operating a 1990 GMC east on state Highway 46.  Another Enderlin man was driving a 2011 Ford F250 west on Highway 46. The Ford turned south onto  Highway 32 and struck the GMC head on in the eastbound lane, the patrol said.
The driver of the GMC was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to a funeral home in Lisbon. The driver of the Ford was taken to Sanford Health in Fargo via Life Flight for medical treatment.

Neither drive wore a seat belt, and their airbags were deployed. The crash remains under investigation by the patrol.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – No one was seriously hurt when a Grand Forks man allegedly got drunk on his birthday and crashed his sport utility vehicle into a house.

The  26-year-old man drove through a fence and into a house shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The crash knocked out electricity to the house, but no one inside was hurt.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and arrested on suspicion of drunken and reckless driving.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Formal charges are pending against a man who authorities say was caught naked at a Fargo church where he had burned pages of a Bible.

Officers responded to a burglar alarm at a car wash business early Sunday. They discovered a pile of wet clothing and footprints leading to the roof.

Surveillance video showed the man had scaled an outside wall and run across the street to the church. Officers arrested him there, where he had allegedly burned Bible pages in an apparent attempt to keep warm.

Authorities say the 21-year-old man was drunk. He was checked out medically and then taken to jail on suspicion of burglary and arson.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot police say a 4-year-old boy is expected to be OK after falling from a third-floor apartment window.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were sent to Meadow Ridge Apartments around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities say the boy was taken by ambulance to Trinity Hospital in Minot. Police say the boy is recovering at the hospital and is expected to survive.

The boy’s name was not released. An investigation into the fall continues.

RAY, N.D. (AP) – Family, friends and others have erected a memorial to three Ray High School students who died in a vehicle crash a year ago.

Seventeen-year-olds Dalen Dorval and Waylyn McRae and 18-year-old Tanner Garman died Feb. 23, 2015, when the pickup truck they were in collided with a semitrailer on an icy U.S. Highway 2.

The husband of Dorval’s mother welded metal tubs together to create a framework for a memorial. Friends, classmates, basketball teammates and high school faculty members helped decorate it.

The memorial is on a small hill along the highway, just east of Ray. It has the theme “Tomorrow Was a Dream,” with the “T,” “W” and “D” taken from the first letters of the boys’ names.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot State University’s president says one staff member will be eliminated as a result of approximately $2 million in budget cuts at the school.

The cuts are part of 4 percent budget cuts for all state funded entities ordered by Gov. Jack Dalrymple.

President Steven Shirley says  one facilities position and one staff administrative position will be eliminated, but only one of those positions are currently filled.

Shirley says other cuts will be shared among the three academic colleges on campus. He says about $400,000 worth of cuts will come from maintenance and repairs.

Shirley says most of the open faculty positions will likely remain open until June of next year.

He says the school will be a leaner operation that’s still going to serve students.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Engineering and architectural firms in the Bismarck area are finding ways to stay busy as oil activity has dipped and government budgets are shrinking. Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce membership sales director Chelse Simon says engineers seem to be weathering the economic slowdown well. Moore Engineering opened a local office late last year. Stanley Consultants is another new chamber member.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Plenty of homes have been coming onto the market in the North Dakota town of Dickinson.

Price tags on Dickinson homes don’t seem to be lower to many buyers, even with more options and an economic slowdown.

Home and Land Company broker associate Shirley Dukart says she’s noticed a push in last two weeks. She says associates are signing purchase agreements, and not just listing agreements. Dukart says homes purchased by oil companies for rental have flooded the market. She says many residents who once couldn’t afford homes are now looking.

Dickinson resident Mariah Schulte says six or seven homes are for sale on her street alone.

Those in real estate say business is steady and prices are down about 10 percent.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A Mandan High School senior played clarinet earlier this month in New York’s renowned Carnegie Hall.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that Sara Zachmeier is one of 110 Honors Band members to perform four songs as part of the High School Honors Performance Series at the Manhattan hall on Feb. 7.

Zachmeier says she was speechless when she first stepped on the stage for a sound check.

She says someone heard her perform at last spring’s North Dakota All-State Music Festival and nominated her. She says she’s not sure who that was.

Zachmeier and 18,000 other students received nomination letters, so she recorded herself playing two pieces. The performance series chose 750 students to perform in its band, string orchestra, symphony orchestra, concert choir and women’s choir.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A group of refugee students at Fargo South High School say they hope their book of short stories about their journeys to the United States will foster better understanding at a time when new arrivals are under scrutiny from presidential candidates, state leaders and others.

The 22 students in Leah Juelke’s English-language learners class became published authors last month when their collection was printed and distributed.

Juelke says she has seen “huge growth” and confidence from the students to be able to convey their thoughts and hear them read out loud by teachers in other classes.

One of the students, Nakafu Kahasha (nuh-KAH’-foo kuh-HAH’-shah), says she was not ready to write about her journey from Congo to Fargo, but that it turned out to be a good thing.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot residents on Tuesday will be voting on whether to change the city’s home rule charter, as a first step toward a possibly smaller City Council.

If voters approve changing the charter, it will clear the way for an initiated measure to be placed on the June election ballot.

A citizen group wants to reduce the council’s size from 14 members elected from seven wards to five members elected at large. The group believes that would ensure competitive races and force council members to look more broadly at city issues.

There is no organized opposition to the proposal.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – The Morton County Commission has renewed a contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a county-owned apartment building in Mandan.

The HUD contract for the building was renewed Feb. 11. The building will remain intact as its use beyond the next two years remains undecided.

Of the building’s 45 units, 36 are subsidized by HUD, with the remaining units paying rent in full.

The county commission bought the 45-unit building before voters decided whether Morton County should expand its own jail or partner with Burleigh County in building a new jail in Bismarck. Morton County voters opted for the combined Bismarck center, so Morton County doesn’t need the apartment space to expand its jail.

Jamesotown (CSi) The United Sportsmen of North Dakota Jamestown Chapter have been focusing their recent efforts on building a new gun range for Jamestown and they will continue doing so tonight.

In 2015, the Pipestem Rifle Range was shut down by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers due to certain incidents. President of the club Merele Weatherly stated that the group would rely on area organizations and businesses in order to bring a gun range back. He stated that the biggest speed bump would be land acquisition.

During a meeting in December 2015, several committees were created to focus on separate areas of the new proposed range. Curt Kaseman and Jim Weight have been working on different measures that need to be taken in order to make the range possible.

Jim Weight stated that a name has already been selected for the corporation.

The club has another open meeting tonight to discuss the range and what needs to happen to make it a reality. The meeting will be at 7:00 PM at the North Dakota Game & Fish Office near Jamestown.

UND interim president Ed Schafer says the meetings will provide an opportunity for UND stakeholders to share their thoughts and ideas.

In world and national news…

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – The Super Tuesday primary tomorrow puts the South in the spotlight. Republican presidential candidates are fighting for support from a mostly white electorate, including many voters who feel alienated by sweeping economic and cultural changes. Democrats will depend on growing minority populations and voters – white and nonwhite – clustered in heavily populated urban areas.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – After routing Bernie Sanders in South Carolina, Democrat Hillary Clinton is shifting her focus to Republicans as she campaigns ahead of tomorrow’s Super Tuesday primaries. Republican front-runner Donald Trump continues to face sharp attacks from his main GOP rivals, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio as they seek ways to blunt the juggernaut.

BEIRUT (AP) – The Syrian cease-fire is largely holding, but reports of air strikes targeting the moderate opposition have prompted the French foreign minister to call for a meeting “without delay” of a task force to monitor a cessation of hostilities. A meeting is already planned for later in the day. Meanwhile, the United Nations says it plans to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance to about 154,000 people living in besieged locations inside Syria over the next five days.

NEW YORK (AP) – A shocking discovery in a Manhattan park. The New York City Police Department says a person taking a walk found the severed head of a horse and other animal parts in a cardboard box in Harlem River park. The Department of Sanitation removed the head and the investigation is continuing.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Hollywood’s lack of diversity and other causes kept pace with the glitz of the annual Academy Awards show last night. Other causes trumpeted included global warming, bank reform and sexual abuse in church and on campus. Best picture turned out to be an underdog, “Spotlight,” about the Boston Globe’s reporting on priest sex abuse. Leonardo DiCaprio won best actor for “The Revenant.” Brie Larson took best actress for her breakout performance in the mother-son captive drama “Room.”
