Spiritwood (CSi) A new flagpole will be installed at the Spiritwood post office, after it was pointed out that the American flag at half-staff, is touching the roof of the building.
George Quigley, of Spiritwood, says he noticed the problem on Monday, a day after President Barack Obama ordered flags at half-staff at all federal buildings until the burial of former first lady Nancy Reagan, who died on Sunday.
Quigley, who serves as ride captain in the North Dakota Patriot Guard, said the post office, which operates on limited hours, was closed at noon and so he took the matter into his own hands. Quigley said he raised the flag up the 30-foot flagpole and lowered it to 10 feet from the top.
The postal worker at Spiritwood, said it was very windy Monday and that may have caused the flag to touch the building in the half-staff situation. When Quigley complained, the employee referred him to the Jamestown postmaster.
Jamestown Postmaster, Gerard Bercier, says, “The situation just came up yesterday and we took care of it yesterday, ” adding that a new flag pole will be installed.
