Jamestown (CSi) The 38th Annual Runnin O’ The Green takes place on Saturday March 19, 2016.

Runners travel the pre-set route on the streets of Jamestown stopping at participating bars.

Once again, proceeds support people battling cancer and to the Elks Camp Grassick, a summer camp near Dawson, for children and adults with disabilities or special needs.

This year’s run is dedicated to the memories of three event supporters who have passed away, Gene Keller, Wayne Deery and Jay Thompson are presented with a coat of arms on the event posters.

Run founder Larry Knoblich, recently told the city council that about 3,000 participants are expected with good weather.

He said that there are no other conflicting St. Patrick’s Day events scheduled that day in the region.

Registration at Frontier Fort starts at 11 a.m., with six heats starting at 2-p.m. in 10-minute increments.

Registration forms online at http://bit.ly/1YT7FNK, and register on Friday at Wildlife Creations, the Elks Club or Cork & Barrel in Jamestown.

The participants who actually run are in the first heat. The first 15 men and 10 women who finish the course first are timed.

The run concludes at Shady’s Restaurant & Lounge, at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.

Participants follow a map to visit 10 bars where they purchase a beverage ….that doesn’t have to be alcohol. Their name tag is stamped at each location. Participants must be 21 years or older and carry a photo ID.

Jonny B’s Brickhouse is the newest addition to the pub crawl this year.

At the March City Council meeting the council will consider approving the requests for street closings and/or permits to allow alcoholic beverages in fenced areas for: All Vets Club; Buffalo Lanes, Inc.; Corner Bar; Cork and Barrel, Inc.(Elk’s location); Middles LLC d/b/a Fred’s Den; Frontier Fort & Grill; Knights of Columbus; Johnny B’s, Office Bar & Lounge; Sabirs II, LLC; Shady’s; and Wonder Bar Sports Bar.
Jamestown Police Chief Edinger asks that he and Fire Chief Reuther be consulted before any tents are erected.

Knoblich would like to see people who join the fun downtown register for the event. Unregistered participants are called “bandits.”

He adds that those individuals buy beer and spend their money, benefiting the community. However he says, if all of those individuals would step up and give $10 each for for charity then a lot more dollars would be raised, while experiencing “the wonderful feeling of giving.”

Iverson Construction will offer rides to participants who call a number provided on their tags. The drivers accept donations, part of which goes to Camp Grassick.

Several taxi services will be operating the day of the event including Last Leg Taxi, 701-320-2456 and Jamestown Taxi Service, 701-252-4200.

Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger told the city council committeee that more officers will be on foot this year. Participants are required to stay out of traffic and not carry alcoholic beverages outside of bars or designated outdoor drinking areas.

Meanwhile, Jamestown Municipal Court will set up a temporary court at Jamestown Fire Department to expedite minor violations related to the event, mostly open container and public urination. Knoblich says he’s working with the bars to provide more portable restrooms.

Early registration before March 16 is $30 and includes a T-shirt. Participants can also register for $10, which does not include a T-shirt, at the event.

T-shirts can be picked up at Wildside Creations until noon on Friday, March 18th.

To register in Jamestown, go to Wildside Creations and Cork & Barrel Liquors. For more information, call Knoblich at 269-0603 or visit www.runninothegreen.com.

Valley City  (CSi)  The Bernatello’s Foods company  has purchased the rights to the Pizza Corner’s frozen pizza’s in Valley City.

The News release from Bernatello’s Food’s in Minnesota said:

“Bernatello’s foods is proud to announce it has reached an agreement to purchase the rights to the Pizza Corner brand of frozen pizza effective May 20th, 2016.

Bernatello’s, like Pizza Corner, is a family-owned and operated business based in Maple Lake, MN with additional production operations in Kaukauna, WI.

The relationship between Bernatello’s and Pizza Corner is a warm one that began several years ago. At that time, the prospect of Pizza Corner co-packing a 14” pizza for our Minnesota based company was discussed. That opportunity did not materialize, however, due to lack of production space at Pizza Corner’s Valley City, ND plant.

This initial conversation eventually led to an agreement in which Bernatello’s would co-pack for Pizza Corner. This partnership in turn, led to the acquisition of the North Dakota company.

Bill Ramsay, owner and President of Bernatello’s Foods said “Dave Zubrod, the founder of the Pizza Corner brand of frozen pizzas has built not only a quality brand, but a brand that has become an institution in North Dakota and the region. Bernatello’s Foods is committed to maintaining this high quality while expanding the scope of Pizza Corner’s outstanding product. The company intends to use its extensive distribution network to continue growing the brand and its popularity in a larger geographic area.

The current sales and delivery side of the Pizza Corner business will be expanded by adding a bigger fleet of trucks, concentrating routes and adding sales professionals and merchandising experts throughout the Dakotas.

Capacity issues at the Valley City facility will lead to Pizza Corner production being relocated to other Bernatello’s facilities with an opportunity for many Pizza Corner employees to remain with the company. The quality and ingredients that have made Pizza Corner brand so successful will remain the same.

Pizza Corner owner Dave Zubrod says “the timing was right, the fit was right and Bernatello’s outstanding dedication to excellence offers a home to a product I’ve spent my life developing over many years. My employees have become like family, making this decision a challenge, but I know in my heart this is the best decision for the Pizza Corner brand; Bernatello’s is the company that can take this brand to a national level while still respecting where it all started.”

The acquisition of Pizza Corner brand of frozen pizzas does not include Pizza Corner restaurant in Valley City, ND.  The customers of Valley City and the surrounding area will be pleased to know that Dave Zubrod will manage and consult with the Valley City, ND Bernatello’s distribution center and will continue to own and operate the establishment where the Pizza Corner Brand originated.”

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The lawyer for a North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent who was cleared of criminal charges for confiscating a stolen pay loader says his client should not have been hauled into court in the first place.

The case against agent Arnie Rummel began in May 2014 after he took the loader from Darrell Schrum’s garage in Forbes and gave it to a trucking company. Schrum said he didn’t know the loader was stolen and a judge found Rummel in contempt for failing to return it. The loader has not been located.

Rummel was later charged in Southeast District Court with two misdemeanor counts. Those charges were dropped earlier this week.

Rummel’s attorney, Tom Dickson, says Rummel is a “good cop” who was unfairly caught in a squabble among lawyers.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police Friday afternoon were on the scene of a shooting at a West Fargo hotel. There have been no reports of injuries.

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Farmers in northeastern South Dakota are worried about a drainage ditch project in southeastern North Dakota.

The project was approved in Dickey and Sargent counties two years ago to drain floodwaters into the James River. Construction is to begin this spring.

The American News reports some farmers already have dug private ditches to drain into the main channel.

Officials say project engineers factored that in. But farmers south of the border fear it could increase the amount of water they’ll have to deal with. Brown County farmer Roger Schuller says those producers won’t have any control over the water flow.

Dickey County farmer and project proponent Steve Hanson says it makes sense to channel excess water into a river rather than have it “all over the ground going everywhere.”

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – The district encompassing rural schools around Williston is moving forward with plans to build a new school, despite voters twice rejecting the idea.

Voters in February rejected a proposed K-8 school, after last year turning down a proposed K-12 school.

The  District 8 School Board will dip into building fund revenues to finance a $16.9 million middle school. That doesn’t require taxpayer approval.

Ground could be broken in late summer, with construction estimated to take about a year.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) – A northern Idaho doctor, his wife and her son have been accused of taking part in a multi-state drug trafficking ring.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Loren Michelle Toelle and her son Sean Lee Jackson pleaded not guilty to related drug charges on Thursday in federal court in Coeur d’Alene. They along with Loren Toelle’s husband, gastroenterologist Stanley Alvin Toelle, are among eight defendants indicted in the alleged drug ring.

Federal prosecutors say the defendants were involved in distribution of heroin, methamphetamine and oxycodone pills in Coeur d’Alene, Spokane, Washington, Las Vegas, Missoula, Montana, and parts of North Dakota.

Two of Loren Toelle’s other children previously pleaded not guilty in the case, which is schedule for trial in U.S. District Court in May.

BRUSSELS (AP) – Even after the capture of a fugitive from the Paris terror attacks, police may not be done with their operation in the Brussels neighborhood where Saleh Abdeslam was wounded and caught today. Two explosions have been heard in the neighborhood, as police searched for a second person who officials had said was holed up in a house. French TV showed images of police dragging a man into an unmarked police car.

BRUSSELS (AP) – The United States is offering its congratulations to authorities in Belgium, following the capture of the main fugitive from the Paris attacks. The U.S. envoy to the anti-Islamic State coalition Friday hailed the capture of Saleh Abdeslam in a Twitter post in which he said, “We will never forget his and all ISIL victims.”

SEATTLE (AP) – A Seattle attorney representing a community police leader who has been jailed in Mexico says she is expected to be released from prison Friday. He says courts cleared Nestora Salgado of remaining charges last night and ordered her freed. Salgado is a resident of the Seattle suburb of Renton who returned to her native Mexico and led a vigilante-style – but legal – community police force. It mounted patrols to protect residents from corruption and organized crime.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – A judge has sentenced an Indianapolis man to life in prison without parole for his role in a 2012 house explosion that killed two people and destroyed or damaged more than 80 homes. Bob Leonard was sentenced Friday after being convicted of murder, arson and insurance fraud charges last month. Prosecutors said he was involved in the plot with his half brother and others to use natural gas to blow up a house in Indianapolis for $300,000 in insurance. His half brother was sentenced in August to two life sentences.

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) – Prosecutors in suburban New York say a man who has served as a foster parent for up to 140 boys over two decades sexually abused at least seven of them. Cesar Gonzalez-Mugaburu (Gon-ZAH’-layz moo-gah-BOO’-roo), of Ridge, on Long Island, is being held on $1 million bond after being charged with child endangerment and sexual misconduct. He is accused of victimizing children as young as 8. Two boys reported earlier this year that they had been abused and prosecutors are investigating whether more boys have been victimized.
