Valley City (CSi) Starting today (Monday April 11, 2016,) Valley City motorists will experience a detour on 8th Avenue Southwest starting (Today) Monday, April 11, 2016.
KLJ reports that, the Valley City Parks and Recreation Wellness, Health and Physical Education Facility project will require working in the intersection of Viking Drive and 8th Avenue Southwest .

8th Avenue Southwest will be closed to all through traffic starting today. A detour will be in place during the closure. Once construction activities have concluded the road will be opened again to traffic.
The road is expected be open before the May 14, 2016 VCSU spring commencement ceremony.
Residents and parents of children who attend Washington Elementary will have to plan ahead and use a detour to get their children to school.
Other closures, include Viking Drive and College Street because of the permanent flood protection project.

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is warning residents regarding a convicted sex offender who has changed his Jamestown address.
35 year old Jamal Joel Anderson now resides at 915 4th Avenue, Northeast, Jamestown, ND
He presently has no vehicle.
Anderson is a black male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
Anderson has been assigned a High Risk Assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
Anderson’s conviction include in 1999 aggravated assault, and sexual assault, and in 2001 corruption of a minor and violated a sex offender registration requirement.
Anderson is currently on probation with North Dakota Parole and Probation.
Anderson is on GPS monitoring.
Anderson is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.
This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender.
Any attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders, their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office is informing Motorists, that beginning Tuesday, April 12, 2016 – the traffic signals at 1st Ave & 1st St S will be inoperable due to maintenance/repairs. Four way Stop signs will be in place at the intersection until the necessary repairs have been completed. The maintenance work is contingent upon changing weather conditions.
Motorists and other traffic should use extreme caution in this area. The public should consider alternate routes if possible.
Jamestown (CSi) The James River Humane Society had a large turnout for the The Voice of Elvis, impersonator show, fundraiser, on Saturday April 2nd.
On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable two JRHS, Vice President Matt Opsahl said, that about 92 tickets were sold, amounting to around $7,000 raised, and when expenses are subtracted it still should turn a nice profit for the shelter.
He added that Kaye John who won the dog house, donated back to the shelter.

A Bake sale at the Buffalo Mall April 23, 2016, from 10am to 2pm.

Bismarck (CSi) April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The North Dakota Department of Human Services’ Children and Family Services Division and Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota are partnering to award grant funding to 19 coalitions representing 43 counties for projects that strengthen communities and build awareness about child abuse prevention.

LaMoure (CSi) LaMoure County Commissioners have issued a fire emergency burn ban, that prohibits all open burning when the Fire Danger Rated in Very High.
Also when the rating is Extreme, and or a Red Flag Warning is in effect.
Dickey, Logan and McIntosh Counties have also issued a fire emergency and burn ban.
Burn bans between each county vary slightly.
Residents in each county should call local officials with any questions.
Also, all open burning must be attended to and supervised at all times.
LaMoure County Emergency Manager Kim Robbins says, the Fire Danger Rating is typically issued by 6-a.m., daily on line at www.nd.gov/des or www.lamourecountynd.com.

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – A weekend grass fire near New Town prompted the evacuation of some homes.
Residents of Four Bears Village were moved to the tribal casino on Saturday while firefighters battled the flames. They were allowed back home after about two hours.
State Highway 23 also was closed for a time. No buildings were impacted.
Authorities say the fire might have started at a nearby oil well.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Grand Forks police are investigating the robbery of a convenience store.
Authorities say a male wearing a mask on his face walked into the M&H Gas store Sunday afternoon and demanded money from employees.
The suspect said he had a weapon but didn’t display one. He fled with an undetermined amount of money and merchandise.
No injuries were reported.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A community forum focused on the Fargo-Moorhead area’s heroin crisis is scheduled for next month.
The “Eyes Wide Open” forum will be held May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the West Fargo High School theatre.
The discussion will be led by local law enforcement, members of the medical community and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Speakers will discuss the recent increase in opioid and heroin use, how it affects the community and how residents can work together to find solutions.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The Fargo Public Library is joining the American Library Association and libraries around the state and country in celebrating National Library Week.
This year’s theme, “Libraries Transform,” showcases the transformative nature of today’s libraries and elevates the critical role that libraries play in the digital age with providing information, resources and collections to all residents.
Librarians say today’s libraries are not only places of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve.
The Fargo Public Library says a variety of free events including preschool story time, a poetry slam, crafts and a jazz concert are planned for throughout the week.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Two nurses in Bismarck are conducting newborn home visits as a follow-up to hospital discharge.
The the visits are part of a free program offered by Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health called the Babies And Mothers Beyond Birth Education (BAMBBE) program.
The nurses answer questions about breastfeeding, sudden infant death syndrome, injury and disease prevention.
They also speak with new moms about how they’re feeling and whether they’re getting enough sleep. A panel of government-backed experts recently released a new set of recommendations that says all pregnant women and new mothers should be screened for depression.
Public health nurse Jessica Linneman says the home visits are quick and convenient for new moms, typically lasting only 45 minutes.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – School officials are looking into expanding Bismarck’s three public middle schools.
Bismarck School Board president Lawrence King says the desire is for an architect to focus on renovation of the three existing middle schools rather than build a fourth one. Both options have been considered by the school district with the number of students increasing and putting middle schools past capacity.
According to preliminary estimates, adding a middle school would cost roughly $35 million, while making additions to the existing three middle schools would cost $18 million. Board members have directed the district to find an architect to verify costs.
That architect would also investigate renovation costs meant to ensure Bismarck and Century high schools aren’t lacking amenities of the new Legacy High School.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The city of Minot will look for a consultant that will work with its planning office.
The Minot Daily News reports the Minot City Council decided Monday that the search can start. The city will look for a firm that can give help and guidance regarding planning issues amid the city’s efforts to fill department positions, with planning director and planning technician positions vacant.
Carter Thompson, who resigned as principal planner in March after less than a month on the job, has alleged that the city isn’t abiding by its code regarding zoning applications. Differences between her and the city have focused on applications for a zoo sign and a takeout restaurant’s parking.
Thompson has stood by her earlier statements.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Fans of the University of North Dakota hockey team lined up early to get their hands on national championship gear.
UND beat Quinnipiac 5-1 on Saturday in the NCAA Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida, to win the school’s eighth national hockey title. Replay now showing on line at ESPN-3.
Fans were lined up outside the Sioux Shop on campus when it opened Sunday. Store Manager Jason Carlson says vendors in Fargo and Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, worked “in the wee hours of the morning” to produce championship apparel and get it to the store.
Fan Katie Grabowski says the crowd at the store Sunday “was crazy.”
UND scheduled a public celebration of the championship Monday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Speedy pinch runner Terrance Gore streaked home on a wild pitch with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals over the winless Minnesota Twins 4-3 Sunday. The World Series champion Royals rallied for two runs in the ninth to tie it. This is Minnesota’s worst start since the Washington Senators moved to the Twin Cities in 1961.
The Twins have placed outfielder Danny Santana on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring injury. He was hurt in the 7-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Twins are betting that home field advantage will make a difference in their young season.
The Twins open at home Monday against the Chicago White Sox at Target Field. The Twins are off to their worst start ever with a 0-6 record. Last season Minnesota went 13-and-6 against the White Sox.
The ceremonial first pitch will come from Rod Carew, former Twins first baseman and Hall of Famer. The first game of the three-game series starts at 3:10 p.m. after a flyover by a pair of F-16s from the 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota National Guard.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Some prominent legal advocates are weighing in on the debate over President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee. Fifteen former American Bar Association presidents are urging Republicans to consider Chief Judge Merrick Garland. In a letter to Senate leaders, they argue that the GOP blockade “materially hampers the effective operation” of the judiciary. They say Garland is “one of the most outstanding judges in the country.”
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama appears to be riding a wave of increasing popularity as he prepares to leave office in a few months. Buoyed by some good economic news and a surge of goodwill from his base of supporters half of those questioned approve of the job Obama is doing in office. An Associated Press-GfK poll says it’s the first time that’s happened since 2013. But the poll finds no evidence that Republican opposition is thawing.
HIROSHIMA, Japan (AP) – Foreign ministers from the Group of Seven industrialized countries, including Secretary of State John Kerry, are pledging to redouble nuclear disarmament efforts and complete an anti-terrorism action plan in time for a May summit. They met today in the atomic-bombed Japanese city of Hiroshima, wrestling with some of the intractable global problems facing their nations.
BERLIN (AP) – A trial is under way in Germany of a man charged with sexually assaulting a woman on New Year’s Eve, in one of a string of attacks that fueled a nationwide debate over immigration policies. The defendant, a Moroccan identified only as Toufik M., is accused of being part of a group of 15-20 men who surrounded the woman and groped her. The attacks were blamed largely on foreigners.
ATLANTA (AP) – The death of a toddler in a hot SUV in is about to be considered in a Georgia courtroom. Attorneys are set to begin sorting through potential jurors today for the trial of 35-year-old Justin Ross Harris. Harris faces multiple charges, including murder. Prosecutors have painted Harris as a man unhappy and unfaithful in his marriage who sought an escape and intentionally left the boy to die.
