Valley City (CSi) Valley City Police continue to investigate a felon in possession of multiple firearms in Valley City with the arrest on Saturday afternoon.
Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson, says the man was arrested stemming from a call about 4:10-p.m.,
Valley City Police Lt. David Swenson and Officer Wade Hannig observed Glenn Leeds as the driver of a white pickup truck exiting the parking lot of Moe’s Eats in Valley City. The police were familiar with Leeds from prior contacts and a check with Barnes County Communications Center revealed Leeds’ Nebraska license was revoked.
They followed Leeds to his destination at 324 6th Avenue, Southwest and placed him under arrest for driving with a suspended or revoked license. While still at the scene Leeds requested the officers contact a friend at his apartment to obtain his wallet and cellphone before being transported to Barnes County Corrections for booking.
Lt. Swenson went to the apartment where a man answering the door identified himself as someone fixing Leeds’ computer. While obtaining Leeds’ possessions, Swenson observed two AR-15 type rifles on a desk with the barrels pointing toward the apartment entry.
A criminal history records check revealed that Leeds’ has a “Nebraska Convicted Felon – No Gun Sale” court order. Leeds provided a consent to search the apartment where officers located eight firearms and ammunition that were impounded as evidence for additional charges of felon in possession of a firearm.
The Valley City Police Department is requesting that anyone with information related to this case call (701) 845-3110.

Jamestown (CSi)– Across the state, police departments and sheriffs’ offices will be cracking down on underage drinking during prom season, graduation and other spring activities for North Dakota high school students.
“We hope the extra patrols will convince young people to make the smart decision not to celebrate with alcohol. If we find a minor consuming or in possession of alcohol, they could end up in court and ordered to pay fines,” said Sgt. Dana Rustebakke of the Valley City Police Department. “The primary goal of added enforcement is to prevent them from drinking.”
Drinking among youth can have many negative consequences, from damage to brains that are still developing—to poor choices like driving after drinking resulting in injury or death.
Alcohol use among teenagers is not unavoidable. With the positive influence of parents, schools, law enforcement and the community, young people can learn that the celebrations in their lives don’t need to include alcohol.
Funding for enhanced enforcement of underage drinking laws is provided by the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Learn more about the efforts to prevent teen driver crashes at ndcodefortheroad.org or join the conversation on the Code for the Road Facebook or Twitter page. Families are invited to create memorials to young drivers and passengers who have died in crashes in North Dakota at ndcodefortheroad.org/memorial.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The insurance carrier for the sheriff’s departments in Ward and Burleigh counties has reached a settlement with the family of a jail inmate who died in October 2014.
Ward Sheriff’s Maj. Bob Barnard confirmed the settlement but didn’t release details. The Minot Daily News reports court records indicate the settlement is for $230,000. North Dakota’s Insurance Reserve Fund represented the counties.
Twenty-five-year-old Dustin Irwin, of Mandaree, died at a hospital after going into cardiac arrest. The sheriff’s departments in both counties handled Irwin at some point.
The state Corrections Department determined that Ward jail officials failed to give Irwin proper supervision or medical treatment.
Ward Sheriff Steve Kukowski and now-retired Capt. Michael Nason face misdemeanor criminal charges in Irwin’s death. Defense attorneys have denied that their clients did anything wrong.

Defendants’ attorney Tara Iversen denies the allegations.
Quality of care at IHS facilities has been an issue recently. IHS Principal Deputy Director Mary Smith told Great Plains tribal leaders last week that the agency will work to enact swift and long-lasting reforms.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – More than 200 professionals are expected for the 2016 North Dakota Travel Industry Conference this week in Grand Forks.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota regulators are attempting to define who an “interested party” is when it comes to testifying on oil and gas issues.
The state Industrial Commission is meeting on Monday in Bismarck to address the issue. Other meetings are slated this week in Dickinson, Williston and Minot.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring make up the commission.
Critics say allowing only an “interested party” such as a landowner or manager to testify on oil and gas proposals limits comments from the public on issues that affect the state.
In world and national news…
WASHINGTON (AP) – Bernie Sanders is still behind when it comes to delegates and votes, but it looks like he has one clear advantage over his Democratic and Republican counterparts – a lot of people actually like him. A new Associated Press-GfK poll shows that by a 48 percent to 39 percent margin, more Americans have a favorable than an unfavorable opinion of Sanders. That is the best net-positive rating in the field. Unlike the other candidates, Sanders is doing better as more Americans get to know him. His favorable rating is up from an earlier poll, while his unfavorable ratings have remained stable.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Ted Cruz is spending his day campaigning in southern California, a state that holds presidential primaries for both parties on June 7, the last day of primary voting. His trip West is a reminder that regardless of what happens in New York’s April 19 elections, the presidential nomination on the Republican side – if not for both parties – won’t be decided for another two months. Cruz scheduled a rally today in Orange County, a Republican stronghold south of Los Angeles, before an evening appearance in San Diego.
NEW YORK (AP) – They are two votes that Donald Trump won’t be able to count on in next week’s New York primary — the votes of his son and daughter. Trump tells Fox News that they didn’t register to vote in time — and that they feel “very, very guilty” about it. Trump says they were “unaware of the rules.”
CHICAGO (AP) – Authorities say former Congressman Mel Reynolds is in federal custody in Atlanta after a judge in Chicago ordered his arrest when he didn’t appear for a hearing in a tax case. They say Reynolds was arrested Monday morning after arriving on a flight from Johannesburg. A federal judge had ordered an arrest warrant after Reynolds said he wouldn’t appear in court as ordered because his 23-year-old daughter in South Africa was ill and he had to look after her. Reynolds has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of failing to file income tax returns from 2009 to 2012.
MOSCOW (AP) – The Russian military says it is helping the Syrian army fight militants affiliated with al-Qaida around the Syrian city of Aleppo — but that it has no plans to storm the city. A military spokesman says Russia wants to help prevent the group from cutting off a strategic highway linking Aleppo to the rest of the country. Syria’s prime minister reportedly told Russian lawmakers in Damascus over the weekend that Syrian troops backed by the Russian air force are preparing a joint operation to capture Aleppo.
