Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports,
a rollover accident on I- 94 about 9:40-a.m.,Wednesday (Jan 2, 2013) injured two people.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Herzig says a car operated by 24-year-old Echo Foster of Casper, Wyoming was westbound with the vehicle’s cruise control engaged and lost control of the Dodge Intrepid and rolled it near Hobart Lake, about 20 miles east of Jamestown.
The report says, the temperature at 20 degrees and a northwest wind blowing off Hobart Lake, coupled with driving too fast for conditions, contributed to the accident.
Foster received head and facial injuries.
The passenger, 28-year-old Jordan Naeu of Jamestown received a hand injury.
The report says no safety restrains were in use.
They were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Valley City for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota had its deadliest year on its roads in more than 30 years. Statistics from the North Dakota Highway Patrol show 168 people died last year in 146 crashes on state roads. The state hadn’t topped 150 traffic fatalities since 1981.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jan 2, 2013) — The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office is informing residents that households may have already received a mailing from a firm called ‘American Water Resources of North Dakota’ or ‘AWR’, concerning a form of utility service line insurance.
This firm notified the City of Jamestown on Monday, December 31, 2012, that they would be conducting a mass mailing to resident and business addresses in Jamestown.
The City acknowledges that the individual water and sewer service lines from the City mains to the residence or business are, by City Code, the responsibility of the Property Owner.
The city further acknowledge that costs for normal repairs or replacement of these service lines are borne by the Property Owner.
The city says, this firm is not associated in any way with the City of Jamestown.
Further, the City has had no dealings with ‘AWR’ and has no knowledge of the firm and its operations, and therefore is not able to recommend any course of action regarding this mailing.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Hospital officials have upgraded the conditions of some of the five men injured in an explosion in an ice fishing camper in northern Minnesota. Essentia Health Hospitals says Rod Bolstad of Hillsboro, N.D., has been upgraded from critical to serious condition, and his son Joel has been upgraded from serious to fair condition. Another son, Jacob, remains in critical condition, and two family friends also remain hospitalized.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A West Fargo man accused of abusing dogs last summer has been sentenced to three days in jail and 15 hours of community service.
Authorities say 25-year-old Jason Weisgerber kept two dogs in a hot, feces-littered garage for more than two weeks without necessary food and water. He pleaded guilty through his attorney to a misdemeanor animal abuse charge.
Weisgerber did not appear personally in court Wednesday. Judge John Irby said he wished Weisgerber had appeared to explain his actions, which the judge called “callous.” He also ordered Weisberger to pay a $300 fee and restitution to be determined.
Prosecutor Tanya Martinez says one of the dogs is with a new owner but the other had to be euthanized.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man accused of beating two boys and setting fire to their bedroom has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Thirty-year-old Lyndon Greybear, of Fort Totten, said in court Wednesday he was hallucinating at the time of the incident in Fargo in November 2011 that involved his cousin’s 4- and 6-year-old children. Both boys were seriously injured and hospitalized for a time.
Attorneys say Greybear was drunk and suffered a psychotic episode. They say he beat the children, urinated on them, grabbed them by the throat and threw them in a closet before setting afire the bedroom and the pants of one of the boys.
Greybear pleaded guilty last October to aggravated assault and endangering by fire. Prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Leaders of Upper Midwest farm groups are upset that Congress has extended the current farm bill rather than pass new legislation.
The one-year extension of portions of the expired 2008 farm bill is part of the legislation to avert the “fiscal cliff” of major tax increases and spending cuts due to take effect with the new year. The extension keeps milk prices from rising but excludes other provisions such as disaster aid for farmers.
Leaders of some farm groups tell Agweek the extension gives Congress more time to cut spending on programs that provide an income safety net for farmers and an affordable food supply for consumers.
North Dakota Farmers Union President Woody Barth says in a statement that Congress is playing politics at the expense of farmers and ranchers.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Rep.-elect Kevin Cramer and Sen.-elect Heidi Heitkamp are being sworn in Thursday in the nation’s capital.
North Dakota’s newest congressman is the state’s only member of the U.S. House. The Republican Cramer defeated Democrat Pam Gulleson in November in his third campaign for a House seat. Cramer lost twice to Democrat Earl Pomeroy in the 1990s.
Heitkamp is being sworn in on the Senate side. The Democrat defeated Republican Rick Berg in a tight, closely watched race last fall.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The Red River Zoo in Fargo has a new exhibit to house the zoo’s endangered white-naped cranes.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Standout North Dakota State University linebacker Grant Olson is traveling with the team to the Football Championship Subdivision title game in Texas and head coach Craig Bohl says “the outlook is promising” that he will play Saturday.
Olson is the team’s leading tackler and captain. He recently was hospitalized with an undisclosed ailment. The Forum reports Bohl said Tuesday that Olson had some tests done over concerns with his appendix.
The Bison face Sam Houston State on Saturday in Frisco, Texas, for the FCS crown. It’s a rematch of last year’s title game won by NDSU.
In the FCS quarterfinals last month, Olson set a school record with 29 tackles in NDSU’s win over Wofford.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A former North Dakota State University linebacker is scheduled to change his not guilty plea to a misdemeanor indecent exposure charge.
Brandon Jemison has a change-of-plea hearing scheduled Feb. 19. Prosecutor Renata Selzer would not elaborate to The Forum newspaper.
Jemison is accused of exposing himself in the presence of a woman and children last July 27 while sitting on a bench outside a Fargo mall. He was later dismissed from the NDSU football team for what coach Craig Bohl said was a violation of team rules.
Jemison faces up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine if convicted. He also could be required to register as a sex offender.
NDSU is the defending Football Championship Subdivision champion and is playing Saturday for a second consecutive title.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The first order of business of the new, 113th Congress is to officially convene today to swear in new members and elect the speaker of the House. Even though it’s a new session of Congress, contentious old issues remain, including deficit reduction and the federal debt limit.
WASHINGTON (AP) – House Speaker John Boehner has reversed course after canceling a vote on Superstorm Sandy aid earlier this week. The house votes Friday on $9 billion in aid and the rest of the $60 billion package on Jan. 15. Because the vote comes in the new Congress, the Senate will also have to take another vote.
MONROE, Conn. (AP) – Police say their presence at a building being used for Sandy Hook elementary students starting classes today makes it “the safest school in America. The building in Monroe, Conn., is a former middle school repurposed to be used by the students from neighboring Newtown. Their school is still technically a crime scene. School officials say they’ll try to make things as normal as possible.
