Valley City (CSi) The Valley City Police Department reports, a member of a KLJ survey crew observed what appeared to be a human bone on the ground near one of the trees planted in the area, of the 300 block of Wintershow Road in Valley City.
The police department received the information on April 12th.
Police Chief Fred Thompson, says the survey crew was in the area when officers arrived and photographed the bone.
Photos were then sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Grand Forks.
On April 14th, representatives met Chief Thompson at the site, and determined that the bone should be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where it can be examined for further information.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said that the bone was a radius bone, one of the two bones located between the elbow and hand. Because the bone was found near a known Indian burial grounds, the State of North Dakota Historical Society and Tribal Historic Preservation Office were contacted and told of the find.
Deeper searches in the area found two additional small bone fragments, however it’s not known whether these are related to the first bone found or if they are event human.
The investigation continues.
Valley City (CSi) Authorities were investigating a one vehicle accident that occurred early Thursday afternoon, on I-94 near Exit 292 near Valley City.
The PT Cruiser ended up in the eastbound lane, however traffic was not diverted.

Jamestown (CSi) At yesteday’s Frontier Village Association Board meeting, a member resigned after discussion about management.
Ann Hess, who works with arts and crafts sales at Mary’s House in Frontier Village and has served for 10 years on the FVA Board. She said she would step down from the board near the end of the meeting.
During the meeting Hess suggested the board should have approved a summer rummage sale in the village Depot building that was organized by FVA staff. The way it appeared was that the staff does what it wants and then alludes to it later on with the board after the fact.
Board member comments to Hess before she left the meeting were that she should be more positive.
Hess said she will continue to work at Mary’s Place as she has for over 20 years. She said her time on the board was rewarding.
After Hess left the meeting, the FVA Board approved her “retirement from the board” by unanimous vote with all eight other members present, including FVA President Charley Tanata, Nellie Degen, vice president, Tina Busche, secretary-treasurer, and members’ Jim Cofield, Jay Diemert, JoAnn Herrick, Brittany Reed and Gary Sahr.
In other business, Frontier Village Manager, Nichole Mosolf said in her report that she is confirming activities for White Cloud Days to include a blacksmith demonstration, half-price stagecoach and pony rides, burgers and ice cream, a pie eating contest, Wild West Shootout, color time for kids and buffalo cakes.
Jamestown (CSi) This year the Regional Big Sing is being hosted by the Jamestown Choralaires, with the Mass Concert set for the Jamestown Civic Center, on Saturday April 23, 2016, at 7-p.m. The Jamestown Drum and Bugle Corps will provide the pre-concert music beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Joining us on Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 were, Choralaires Director, Pam Burkhardt and member Mark Sherfy.
Pam has directed the group the past 19 years, and Mark has been a member for the past 12 years. The accompanist is Carrie Kraft.
Mark said Jamestown can expect 240 singers including the 45 members of the Choralaires, from North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In addition there should be about 110 spouses, along with 20 chorus directors and along with accompanists. Jamestown last hosted The Big Sing in 2012, noted that planning for this year’s concert took about two years, as the concert travels to locations around the upper midwest. Jamestown has also hosted The Big Sing in 1997, and 2004.
He pointed out that the last Big Sing in Jamestown was attended by about 800-900 people.
He added that the Big Sing is put on by the Associated Male Chorus of America, (AMCA) Midwest District, of which the Choralaires belong.
Pam said the Choralaires will start their Mass Concert with a sacred song and present a variety of songs, concluding with a patriotic number.
The will be joined for a song by the Jamestown Boys Choir, under the direction of Meredith Meidinger.
The Girls Choir will perform as part of the Choralaires Ladies activities, at the Saturday luncheon at the Masonic Temple in Jamestown.
Tickets are $15 and $5 for Students, available in advance from the Jamestown Civic Center, Choralaires or Boys Choir members or at the door.
The “Choralaires Ladies Group,” will also host a luncheon on Friday April 22nd, and is organizing other activities and events for the Big Sing visitors.

Mapleton (CSi) The North Dakota Highway Ptroal reports, two people were injured in a two vehicle crash on I-94 two miles west of Mapleton at 7:11 p.m.,Wednesday.
An SUV driven by 28 year old Travis Roberts, of Dakota City, Iowa slowed down in the left-lane of I-94 to turn around at a median crossover when it was rear-ended by a car, driven by 19 year old Clay Larocque of Fargo.
Both the SUV and car ended up in the ditch and the SUV rolled onto its side.
Both individuals were injured, and taken to Sanford, and Essentia Hospitals, in Fargo. Two passengers in Roberts vehicle were not hurt.
Casselton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
Valley City (CSi) The Barnes County Commissioners has declared April 18-22, 2016, as County Government Week. County employees have several activities planned, with Wednesday, April 20th, the primary activities for public events.
A number of the offices will set up displays throughout the courthouse during the week long observance. Visitors will find information ranging from weed control and gardening to property taxes, Medicaid, voting requirements, veteran services, and public health issues.
City-County Health District will offer free blood pressure testing at their office (415 2nd Ave. NE) throughout the week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants should be prepared to sit for about five minutes prior to being tested.
Wednesday activities will start off with free walking tacos served by county employees and commissioners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the rotunda, with root beer floats being offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on second floor. Free popcorn will be available in the first floor entryway.
The public is invited to register for three $25 drawings for Chamber Bucks during the week. One drawing will be held each day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. City-County Health will conduct a drawing for a free total lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL/LDL, triglycerides and blood sugar) on Friday.
Area first graders will have the opportunity to tour the courthouse with Commissioner Mike Metcalf on Thursday, April 21. Metcalf and other county workers will explain to pupils the function of county government and how it affects them and their families.
On Friday afternoon, April 22, Sheriff Randy McClaflin’s staff will offer 8th graders a chance to test their abilities while simulating being under the influence of alcohol through the use of special Fatal Vision goggles. This demonstration is planned from 11:50 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Local deputies who are trained in the areas of DUI and impaired driving detection help participants better understand the physical effects of alcohol consumption. Students will be asked to perform field sobriety tests while wearing the special goggles, which vary in levels of intoxication.
In conjunction with County Government Week, Barnes County Social Services is sponsoring a 5K Superhero Fun Walk Saturday, April 23, 2016. Everyone, from children to adults (strollers welcome), are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero character. The activities starts at 10 a.m. at Pioneer Park in Valley City. The registration fee (non-refundable donation) is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family or business. Race day goodie bags will be handed out after the race. Door prizes will be given out the week following the race. Proceeds benefit Barnes County Social Services Foster Care Recruitment & Retention Fund. Participants are urged to check the Super Hero 5K Fun Walk Facebook page for weather-related race updates or cancellations.
Social Services is also recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. A Diaper, Wipe and Pull-Up Donation Drive is currently under way at the courthouse. Donations may be dropped off in Room 102 throughout the month. Monetary donations are also accepted. If you are unable to drop off your donation, please contact Dana Lindemann at 845-8521. Donations will be distributed to families and children in need in Barnes County.
The North Dakota Heart Gallery will be at the courthouse April 18-30 and will be set up in the rotunda. The ND Heart Gallery is a non-profit organization that was started in 2008 with a mission to reach out to the public and encourage the adoption of children waiting for forever homes. Through artistic photography, this organization showcases children’s personalities and spirit, showing potential families a glimpse inside a child’s heart. Children featured in the gallery are from throughout North Dakota.
To round out the April observance local singer Joe DeMasi will be putting on a free children’s concert at The Vault in Valley City on Tuesday, April 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
WEST FARGO – A family member says,the owner of a diner in West Fargo, who had been missing for about a day was found dead early Thursday evening.
Tim Hagensen was reported missing by family members about 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, after having last been heard from that afternoon, West Fargo Police Lt. Greg Warren said Hagensen’s nephew, Darren Kundert, of Alexandria, Minn., said at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday that his uncle was found dead earlier in the evening but declined to give further details.
Hagensen’s daughter, Jennifer Berndt, would only confirm that her father has been found but wouldn’t comment further and directed questions to police.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo police found two bullet holes in a house after responding to reports of shots fired.
No one was hurt in the Thursday afternoon incident.
Police are searching for a van that witnesses saw speeding away from the scene. Authorities are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) – A head-on crash on state Highway 1806 in Morton County has killed two people and injured three more.
The Highway Patrol says a car traveling north crossed into the wrong lane and collided head-on with a southbound car about 7 p.m. Thursday, 6 miles north of Cannon Ball.
The 36-year-old Fort Yates woman driving the southbound vehicle died, along with a 55-year-old male passenger in her vehicle. He also was from Fort Yates. Authorities did not immediately release their names.
Another passenger in the southbound vehicle and the driver and a passenger in the northbound vehicle were taken to Bismarck hospitals with undisclosed injuries.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck police are investigating what they say is a suspicious death.
Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at the Runnings store shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday.
Police found a body outside, along a side of the building. Authorities were working to determine the identity.
Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena says it doesn’t appear that the woman died of natural causes. Authorities would not release other details.
Officers were at the scene for more than three hours and examined several items, including a backpack and wallet.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of dealing large quantities of methamphetamine in North Dakota and Minnesota has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.
Arnulfo Ramos, of Crookston, Minnesota, pleaded guilty in December to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Authorities say the drug ring involved more than 500 grams of meth.
The 43-year-old Ramos was arrested on April 2, 2015, after a traffic stop in Minneapolis.
Defense attorney Jennifer Braun says Ramos had a difficult upbringing in which he was shuttled between Texas and Mexico and began using drugs at a young age. Braun says Ramos “feels that he simply too old and tired of the drug life” and plans on pursuing drug treatment and completing his GED in prison.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Tax Department will be extending its office hours on Monday.
Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger says the office will be open until 9 p.m. to help taxpayers with any questions.
Rauschenberger says taxpayers who want an extension must file their request before the Monday deadline.
The tax commissioner’s office is located on the 16th floor of the state Capitol.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The Trinity Containers manufacturing plant in West Fargo is closing, putting nearly 100 people out of work.
The plant makes products for the energy industry, which is in a slump. The company says in a statement that the closure is “primarily driven by current market conditions.”
Mayor Rich Mattern says the plant will start shutting down June 12 and be closed by July 22. The company will lay off 91 welders, assemblers and painters.
Mattern says the city will be working with Job Service to help the workers find new jobs.

Jamestown (CSi-UJ) University of Jamestown head men’s basketball coach
Danny Neville has announced the signing of Jake Reuther, who will join the Jimmies in the 2016-2017 season.
As a senior Reuther, a 6′ 3″ guard, averaged 9.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game for the hometown Jamestown Blue jays.
Coach Neville says of Reuther, “Jake has just scratched the surface for potential. We see him being a big part of this program in the future. He has a great feel for the game and has a very balanced game. Jake does a little bit of everything. We are very excited about Jake!”
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSU) – Valley City State women’s basketball coach Jill DeVries announces the signing of Fargo Shanley guard Annie Swenson for the 2016-17 season.
A 5-foot-6 sharpshooter, Swenson signed a letter of intent Wednesday to continue her education and basketball career at Valley City State University this fall. Swenson led North Dakota Class A girls basketball in made 3-pointers during the regular season as she helped Fargo Shanley High School to a 27-0 record, it’s third straight state title and a state-record 70 straight wins this season.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Longtime Minot State University athletic director Rick Hedberg is resigning to accept another position at the school.
Hedberg will become vice president for advancement, after serving as athletic director the past 15 years. During his tenure, Hedberg helped guide MSU through its transition from NAIA competition to NCAA Division II.
He will begin his new duties on June 1. The university is launching a national search for his successor immediately.
Hedberg is a 1988 graduate of MSU. He was a three-time all-conference basketball player for the Beavers, ranks third on the school’s all-time scoring list and was inducted into the MSU hall of fame in 1997.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 3-1 Thursday. The Twins dropped to 0-9 for the worst start by any major league team in 13 years. The Twins have scored only 14 runs this season. The last big league team to lose its first nine games was Detroit in 2003. The Tigers finished that season 43-119.

The Chicago Cubs entered the major league season as a favorite to win the World Series. They haven’t disappointed so far, rolling up the majors’ best record so far.
Kris Bryant hit a solo homer and Jason Hammel allowed four hits over six shutout innings as the Cubs clobbered Cincinnati 8-1 to improve to 8-1. Dexter Fowler had three of the Cubs’ 11 hits, including a two-run single in a five-run eighth that broke the game open.

DALLAS (AP) – Jamie Benn had a goal and two assists as the Dallas Stars beat the Minnesota Wild 4-0 in their first-round opener Thursday night. Jason Spezza returned to the postseason with a nifty goal and added an assist for the Stars. Game 2 is Saturday night in Dallas.
Braden Holtby stopped 17 shots in Washington’s 2-0 shutout of Philadelphia, and John Tavares had a goal and two assists to lift the New York Islanders past the Panthers 5-4 at Florida. Joe Pavelski’s second goal of the night was the game-winner in San Jose’s 4-3 triumph at Los Angeles.
Vikings Stadium…
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Members of the public will get a chance to peek inside the new home of the Minnesota Vikings before it opens up for events. The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority says an open house is planned at U.S. Bank Stadium on July 23rd and July 24th. Fans will have access to the new concourse, and they’ll get to see the field, the new seats and some of the stadium’s luxury amenities.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Vikings will play their first regular-season home game at US Bank Stadium against the rival Green Bay Packers. The NFL unveiled the 2016 schedule Thursday. It puts the Packers and Vikings in prime time on September 18th.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The first overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft now belongs to the Los Angeles Rams, who acquired it from the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee swaps the No. 1 choice to the Rams along with its picks in the fourth and sixth round for the 15th overall selection, two second-round selections and their third round pick in the draft. The Titans also will receive the Rams’ first- and third-round picks in 2017.
UNDATED (AP) – The NFL season will begin the way the last one ended, with the Denver Broncos playing the Carolina Panthers in a rematch of Super Bowl 50. It is the first such rematch on opening weekend since 1970, when Minnesota beat champion Kansas City 27-10. Among the highlights for opening weekend is the Rams’ return to representing Los Angeles as they visit San Francisco in the nightcap of a Monday night doubleheader.
COLLGE BASKETBALL…
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis has hired men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith as the program tries to return to the NCAA tournament. The Tigers lured Smith away from Texas Tech with a five-year contract worth $15.45 million. He and Lon Kruger are the only two coaches to guide five different schools to the NCAA Tournament, and he just led the Red Raiders to the tourney.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – The Sacramento Kings have fired coach George Karl after his first full season with the team. The Kings went 33-49 this season and were 44-68 since Karl took over in February last year.
Karl was unable to improve the team’s defense, had frequent run-ins with star center DeMarcus Cousins.
Karl is the eighth coach in Sacramento since the team last went to the playoffs in 2006.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) – Luke Donald and Branden Grace share the first-round lead at the opening round of the RBC Heritage golf tournament at Hilton Head.
Donald fired a 32 on the back nine to tie Grace at 5-under 66. They hold a one-shot edge over Jason Day, Matt Kuchar (KOO’-chur), Jason David Lingmerth and Tony Finau.
Jason Bohn shot a 3-over 74 in his first round since suffering a heart attack two months ago at the Honda Classic.

NEW YORK (AP) – There was ample acrimony as Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders dropped the gloves during a debate in Brooklyn. They aggressively challenged each other over Wall Street banks, minimum wage, gun control and foreign policy. On the Republican side, most of the anger was confined to protests outdoors at a Manhattan gala. The candidates’ remarks inside were more subdued.
BRUSSELS (AP) – A leaked report critical of airport security has apparently cost Belgium’s transport minister her job. Prime Minister Charles Michel says Transport Minister Jacqueline Galant has resigned. The revelations came after the attacks in Brussels killed 32 people. Galant had said she had not seen the EU report, but Michel said a “summary” was discussed and sent to the minister in June of last year.
MASHIKI, Japan (AP) – More than 100 aftershocks have hit southern Japan since a magnitude 6.5 earthquake last night that killed nine people and injured about 800 people. Damage was widespread and is still being assessed. Many people are expected to spend the night in shelters.
SANAA, Yemen (AP) – Officials say a city in south Yemen is now under government control. Yemeni military officials say troops trained by the Saudi-led coalition battling Yemen’s Shiite rebels have routed al-Qaida militants who previously held Houta. Officials say the militants fled to nearby towns and farmland.
