PlanterSunflowerKernels(CSi) A major sunflower seed producer is recalling some of its kernels due to possible contamination.

SunOpta is recalling sunflower kernels under the Planters Sunflower Kernels and Dakota’s Best Biggy’z Roasted and Salted Kernels brands “out of an abundance of caution,” the company said in a press release.

The kernels were sent to Illinois and North Dakota, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said they may have been redistributed to other states.

The recall also affected Ghiringhelli Specialty Foods, which recalled over 33,000 pounds of its Broccoli Slaw & Kale Salad with White Chicken Meat sold at Trader Joe’s, because it includes a packet of the sunflower kernels produced by SunOpta.

The Planters products have best-by dates of 3/6, 3/7 and 3/8/2017. The Dakota best-by date is 2/11/2017. UPC’s for the Planters and Dakota products can be found on the FDA’s recall notice.

The Trader Joe’s products have use by dates of 5/2-5/7/2016 and establishment number “P-17156.”

So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recalls. Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which can cause fevers, headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Customers can throw away or return any of these products to the stores where they were purchased for a full refund. Customers with questions can call SunOpta at 1-877-237-4374 Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET or email the company at contactus@sunopta.com.
