(CSi)  On Saturday morning, June 25, 2016, the North Dakota Highway Patrol and Benson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a train/pedestrian crash in Leeds. The report was made when BNSF Railroad employees saw what they believed to be a body on the tracks.

Responding officers discovered a 55-year-old man died on the railroad tracks from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Benson County Coroner also responded to the scene to investigate the death.

There is no suspicion of foul play and no danger to the public. The man was identified as Scott Craig Nelson of Leeds.

(CSi)   The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at approximately 11:35 am, the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded with the Benson County Sheriff’s Department to a report of a train/pedestrian crash in Leeds, ND.

The report was made when BNSF Railroad employees saw what they believed to be a body on the tracks. Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers discovered that a 55 year old man, from Leeds, had died on the railroad tracks, but not due to being struck by a train.

Responding officers discovered a 55-year-old man died on the railroad tracks from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man has been identified as Scott Nelson of Leeds. There is no suspicion of foul play and no danger to the public.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Benson County Coroner also responded to the scene to investigate the unattended death. This death remains under investigation by the North Dakota BCI, the Benson County Sheriff’s Department, and the ND State Forensic Medical Examiner’s Office. At this point in the investigation there is no suspicion of foul play.
