Jamestown Airport Manager Sam Seafeldt said the Piper Malibu landed without incident.

Seafeldt said the pilot reported the smoke from the engine, and some smoke in the cabin.

When the plane landed reports did not indicate a fire, and the pilot and a passenger left the plane.

Reportedly the engine had been previously replaced.

Seafedlt said there was no evidence of fire, however there was evidence of a vacuum pump failure in the engine, that likely caused the smoke to occur.

No injuries reported to the pilot or the passenger.

Seafeldt said the plane belongs to a Fargo business and was enroute from Dickinson to Fargo when the incident occurred.

He added that there was no fire damage detected by a mechanic, and the plane, after circling the airport three times, then continued its flight to Fargo.

Jamestown City Fire Department Lt. Sheldon Mohr says all fire fighters were called to the station, and four units were on standby at the airport. He said there was no visible fire coming from the plane or the engine.

The JFD remained on the scene to make sure no flames has subsequently erupted.

He indicated that the airport’s Fire and Rescue unit, stationed at the airport was on scene, and consisting of airport personnel and city fire fighers.

Mohr said the city fire units returned to the station about 2:15 p.m.
