Gladys E. Fercho, 78, of Jamestown passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at her home surrounded by her children.

Gladys was born on June 8, 1938, in Edgeley, ND, the daughter of Simon and Evelyn Sjostrom. She was the second oldest of five children (Lloyd, Lyle (Fibber), Merle, and Harley (Jiggs)) and was raised on a farm. In 1954, she married Willie Fercho of Edgeley. Over the next several years, they lived in several western states as Willie worked as a heavy equipment operator on a wide variety of public works construction projects. In 1968, they moved to Jamestown and Gladys worked at Norwest Bank until she retired as a Loan Officer. After retirement, she needed to stay busy so she continued to work part-time at Wells Fargo Mortgage and Country Gardens. Later she began work for the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center as an Attendant Care Assistant for juveniles and as a cook for the Correctional Center. Until last year she served as an Attendant Caregiver (Direct Service Professional) for Alpha Opportunities in Jamestown.

Gladys was a wonderful, giving person who always cared so much for others. She was devoted to family and participated in many outdoor family activities. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and excelled in making authentic German dishes such as chicken strudels, cheese buttons, knoephla and sauerkraut, and chicken and dumplings. She enjoyed taking care of her yard and garden, particularly her colorful flowers that were planted in every corner of the yard. She loved animals, especially her dogs. She had strong faith in God, was a long-term member of St. James Basilica, and was active in Our Lady of Lourdes Circle. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Deb Peuser (Howie), Jim Fercho, Jody Fercho, and Tammy Sharp (Dave), eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, her brothers Lloyd and Lyle, and a large number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her son Timothy, her husband Willie, her parents, and two brothers Merle and Harley.
