Valley City (CSi)  Officials have set Thursday, from 5-p.m., to 8-p.m., for a training exercise involving  Valley City and Barnes County emergency personnel.

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson says  the public should not be alarmed seeing the activities as it will be  a training exercise.

The exercise will be near the intersection of West Main Street, and 9th Avenue Northwest.

Thompson points out that there will be several law enforcement vehicles outside Washington Elementary School during that time frame as part of the training exercise.

Bismarck (CSi) The Jamestown rest areas, located on both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-94, approximately four miles west of Jamestown are now open. They were temporarily closed for maintenance work.

For other information about construction projects and road conditions throughout North Dakota, call 511 from any type of phone or visit the Travel Information Map on the NDDOT website at http://www.dot.nd.gov/travel-info-v2/

Jamestown  (CSi)   Stutsman County Veterans Service Officer David Bratton says he will be out of the office later this month, so veterans needing to visit with him are asked to make an appointment before.

On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSI Cable 2, he said he’ll be out of the office from September 20 through October 4th.  If veterans need information or services during that time, just call his office at 252-9043 and other arrangements will be made through other veterans service offices.

He noted that September is Suicide Prevention month, and that there will be a Recovery Walk in Jamestown on Tuesday September 13, 2016 from 5:30-p.m., to 8-p.m., starting from McElroy Park.

He added that the Veterans Suicide Prevention Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255.

He also pointed out that the New Veterans Patient Orientation will be held at the Fargo VA Hospital on September 21, 2016 from 4-5:30-p.m.

He added that veterans are scheduled to receive a cost of living increase in their monthly checks, however how much has not yet been determined.

David also reminded veterans that the PTSD Group Meeting is held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 12:30- to 2-p.m., at the lower level of the Jamestown Law Enforcement Center, with a combat veteran from Fargo.

For more information contact the Stutsman County Veterans Service Office at 252-9043, or on line at the Stutsman County website.

The office hours are Monday through Friday 8-a.m., to noon, and 1-p.m., to 5-p.m., at the lower level of the LEC in Jamestown.

BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) — A one-time high school science teacher in Bottineau who’s accused of child sex crimes is scheduled to change her not guilty pleas.

Twenty-four-year-old Marissa Deslauriers allegedly had sexual contact with teenage boys. She was scheduled for trial next week, but court documents indicate a change-of-plea hearing is now scheduled Sept. 15.

Deslauriers was arrested late last year and no longer works at the school.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of killing another man by running him over with his vehicle on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation in northeastern North Dakota has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Lance Robertson pleaded guilty to murder for the December death of 18-year-old Larse Azure Jr., of Fort Totten. It happened after Robertson and five other people were driving around the reservation and drinking.

Authorities say several occupants argued with Robertson about his erratic and unsafe driving and eventually left the vehicle after he stopped on the road. One of the witnesses allegedly heard Robertson yell “you’re all dead,” before he ran over Azure, who was waving his arms at Robertson to stop.

Robertson was ordered to pay about $14,500 to family of the victims and to the tribe.

WASHINGTON (AP) — North Dakota authorities plan to pursue charges against Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein for spray-painting construction equipment at a Dakota Access Pipeline protest.

Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said Tuesday that the charges would be for trespassing and vandalism. State court records Tuesday evening didn’t yet list any formal counts against Stein.

A spokeswoman for Stein says that activists invited her to leave a message at the protest site. She says Stein wrote “I approve this message” in red spray paint on the blade of a bulldozer.

Stein, who is anti-war and advocates for clean energy, camped out with protesters Monday evening.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Heavy rainfall in northeastern North Dakota over the past week has caused problems for farmers.

The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that the excess moisture delayed the small grains harvest. There also are reports of some potatoes and sugar beets rotting in the ground.

The state’s spring wheat harvest is still well ahead of the average pace, at 91 percent complete. Winter wheat planting is getting underway, at 1 percent done.

Pasture and range conditions in North Dakota are rated 53 percent good to excellent. Stock water supplies are 74 percent adequate to surplus.

In world and national news….

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Donald Trump is railing against rival Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy record, arguing that policies she supported while secretary of state have left the Middle East in disarray. Trump described Clinton as “trigger-happy and very unstable.” His comments came in a Philadelphia speech in which he vowed to boost military spending by tens of billions of dollars. He outlined plans for major increases in the number of active troops, Navy ships, submarines and fighter planes.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia says Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary of State John Kerry will fly to Geneva Thursday to discuss a possible Syria deal following months of negotiations. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin failed to clinch a deal in China on Monday, acknowledging “gaps of trust” between the rival powers. Russia is a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad and has been carrying out airstrikes to bolster his forces for nearly a year. The United States supports rebels fighting to overthrow Assad.

VIENTIANE, Laos (AP) — A Philippine official says President Barack Obama has met briefly with new Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on the sidelines of a summit in Laos. There was no immediate confirmation from the White House. The two had been scheduled to hold their first meeting Tuesday. But Obama canceled it after Duterte called Obama a “son of a bitch” and threatened to swear at him if he brought up concerns about extrajudicial killings of drug dealers and users in the Philippines.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — It took an act of Congress, but World War II pilot Elaine Harmon has finally been laid to rest Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery. Harmon died last year at age 95. She was one of the Women Airforce Service Pilots, a group of women who flew military aircraft during World War II so that men were freed up for combat missions. The women were not granted military status at the time, but received retroactive status as veterans in 1977. Last year, Army officials concerned about limited space at the cemetery ruled that WASPs couldn’t be buried at Arlington. Harmon’s family fought the rule, and in May, President Barack Obama signed a measure overturning it.

NEW YORK (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he disagrees with Colin Kaepernick’s (KAP’-ur-nihks) choice to kneel during the national anthem, but recognizes the quarterback’s right to protest. When asked Wednesday about Kaepernick’s decision not to stand before games when the national anthem is played, Goodell said, “I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a perfect society.” He added, “On the other hand, we believe very strongly in patriotism in the NFL.”
