Sister Marie Leona Dostaler, 95, of Valley City, ND died at CHI Mercy Hospital, Valley City, September 17, 2016.

Her funeral Mass will be Friday, September 23, at 2:30 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 and a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. all in the Maryvale Chapel, Valley City, ND. Father Donald Leiphon, will be the Mass celebrant.

Sister Marie Leona (Stella) Dostaler was born July 16, 1921 near Overly, ND to Leo and Bernadette (Richard) Dostaler.

She attended high school at Notre Dame Academy, Willow City, ND graduating in 1941.

She professed her vows as a Sister of Mary of the Presentation August 26, 1943.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Social Studies in 1967 at the College of Great Falls, Montana. She began teaching elementary school in Catholic schools in 1942 at Wild Rice, ND. She also taught in Wild Rice, ND from 1954-1962 and 1966-1968. She taught in Harvey, ND 1943-54, 1963-64, and 1965-66. She taught in Washington, IL 1962-1963 and 1974-1988. She taught in Valley City, ND 1964-1965. She taught in Willow City 1966-1968. She taught in Princeton, IL 1968-1970 and 1988-1992. She taught in Walhalla, ND 1970-1974. She served in hospitality at Maryvale from 1988-1992 where she continued to live in community life until her hospitalization August, 2106.

Sister Marie Leona was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Theodore and sisters Jeanette Belcher, Lillian Houle and Evelyn Barsness. She is survived by her Religious Community, the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, her brothers Iven and Newell and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
