Jamestown (CSi) 52 year old David Troske of New Rockford pleaded guilty in Southeast District Court Wednesday to murder and attempted murder in conjunction with the death of Donnie Perleberg of Pingree.
WDAY, Forum Communications, reports the guilty plea followed a plea deal before Judge Thomas Merrick and involved dismissing other charges of aggravated assault, a Class B felony, three counts of reckless endangerment, Class C felonies, and carrying a firearm in a bar, a Class A misdemeanor.
Troske is represented by defense attorneys Alexander Reichert, and Joseph Friedberg.
Troske admitted to firing a single shot that killed Donnie Perleberg, Pingree, at a wedding dance September, 6, 2015, at the New Rockford Eagles Club.
He also admitted to firing two gunshots that wounded Mary Seiler, of New Rockford at the wedding reception. She has since recovered from the wounds.
Troske did not make an oral statement at the court proceeding.
Judge Merrick ordered the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to complete a presentence investigation by November, 9th this year.
Troske’s sentencing date is December 15, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. at the Eddy County Courthouse in New Rockford.
The murder charge is a Class AA felony punishable by life in prison without parole. The attempted murder charge is a Class A felony punishable by 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Jamestown (CSi) The investigation by Jamestown Police continues following the stabbing of a man early Wednesday, about 12:30-a.m., in the 100 block of 5th Street Northeast, in the area of the Loaf N Jug Store.
Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger reports, a 34 year old Jamestown man received serious injuries.
He was taken by Jamestown Area Ambulance Service to JRMC, and later flown to a Fargo hospital for treatment. His condition was not known as of Wednesday afternoon.
Police Detective Dale Ackland says, police have conducted interviews with individuals in the area, and that police have received phone calls during the day Wednesday stemming from requests for any information.
Ackland says the investigation is still active and continues, adding that no additional information is being released as of Wednesday afternoon.
Chief Edinger asks anyone with information regarding the incident to call Jamestown Police at 701-252-1000.
Jamestown (CSi) The 26th Annual HOPE Dinner and Auction is set for Saturday October 1, 2016, at Zebedee Center, at St. John’s Academy in Jamestown.
The Social is at 5:30-p.m., the dinner is at 6:30-p.m.
On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jim and Carolyn Exner, who were the first chairs of the event, said the theme this year is “Celebrating and Envisioning,” celebrating a legacy of 125 years of faith and education, as HOPE stands for Help Offer Private Education.
100 percent of the proceeds go to benefit the students and programs at St. John’s Academy.
The event was originally hosted by the Knights of Columbus Hall, then the Jamestown Civic Center, then, after 2001, at the then, newly constructed Zebedee Center, adjacent to the school building.
They indicated that the first HOPE Dinner and Auction in January of 1992 had nine sponsors, and last year the sponsors numbered 55, raising over $100,000.
Jim pointed out the event is so successful because of the dedication and support of the community, and parents, teachers, the St. John’s Academy administration, and sponsors.
He said more sponsors are welcome.
Carolyn added that the Second Graders will perform, and each grade makes an item that will be auctioned. Sixth Graders help out during the evening.
She said there will be two raffles, for a diamond ring and a fishing trip for six, to Lake of the Woods, Minnesota.
An item during the live auction will be a Carson Wentz football jersey.
Other auction items include dinners and more.
As of Wednesday eight tickets remained.
For more information, ticket availability and sponsorships call St. John’s Academy at 701 252-3397.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Bond has been set at $2 million cash for a man charged with murder in what authorities say was a gang-related fatal shooting in Minot.
Twenty-six-year-old Johnny Norwood was arrested in Las Vegas in late May and made his first court appearance in Minot on Wednesday. He did not immediately enter a plea to felony charges of murder, attempted murder and reckless endangerment.
Authorities allege Norwood shot and killed 30-year-old Roger Falana on Nov. 29, 2015, in a downtown Minot alley. He’s also accused of shooting a woman who survived, and firing multiple shots that endangered other people.
Authorities allege Norwood has ties to a gang in California. They say Falana had ties to a gang in his home state of Florida.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Law enforcement authorities in North Dakota say 21 people protesting at two construction sites of the Dakota Access pipeline have been arrested.
The Morton County Sheriff’s Office says the individuals were arrested Wednesday on charges including resisting arrest, criminal trespass on private property and possession of stolen property.
The sheriff’s office says officers responding to the sites near the community of St. Anthony found several people and horses on private property.
The agency says an officer had to raise his weapon “containing less-lethal ammunition” after a protester on horseback charged at him. The officer wasn’t injured.
Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier says the charging horse combined with the rest of the situation presented an “imminent threat” to the officer.
The statement says 95 people have been arrested in recent weeks since protests began months ago over the four-state, $3.8 billion pipeline.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is asking the developer of the four-state Dakota Access oil pipeline to explain its purchase of a ranch where a protest turned violent earlier this month.
Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners recently purchased the 7,000-acre ranch last week for an undisclosed price.
Stenehjem is giving the company 30 days to say how the land, where tribal officials said construction crews destroyed burial and cultural sites, will be used.
North Dakota law generally bars corporations from owning agricultural land unless the property is controlled by a farm family. The company must prove to the state how its purchase complies with the Depression-era anti-corporate farming law.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The lead spokeswoman for North Dakota’s Health Department has resigned over comments she accidentally posted on the agency’s Twitter account during Monday night’s presidential debate.
Colleen Reinke (RYN’-kee) took jabs at Republican candidate Donald Trump and moderator Lester Holt. She told The Associated Press that she mistakenly grabbed her work phone rather than her personal phone in the dark while multi-tasking during the debate.
Reinke submitted her resignation that night, without being asked. She said her tweets were “inappropriate” and that “it wasn’t good for the department for me to stay.”
She’d been with the agency three years, the last 2 ½ as the lead public information officer.
State Health Officer Terry Dwelle’s (DWEHL’-ees) office referred calls to Human Resources Director Dirk Wilke, who confirmed the resignation.
KILLDEER, N.D. (AP) — The latest truck bypass in the western North Dakota oil patch is open for traffic.
The state Transportation Department on Wednesday opened a $30 million bypass at Killdeer. The 4-mile, two-lane route that connects state Highways 200 and 22 is designed to divert truck traffic around the west side of the community. It was completed this month after more than a year of construction.
Before the recent oil boom, about 2,000 trucks passed through Killdeer each day. When the boom was at its height, the number ballooned to about 10,000 daily in the community of about 1,000 people.
The state has invested a total of $420 million on the construction of truck bypass routes for the communities of Williston, Watford City, Alexander, New Town, Dickinson and Killdeer.

Bismarck (CSi) The State Game and Fish Department reports that the 49,000 deer gun licenses that were allocated by proclamation for the 2016 hunting season have all been issued.
Randy Meissner, licensing manager for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, says, according to state law, the number of deer gun licenses issued, including those licenses issued as gratis, cannot exceed the number of licenses authorized by the governor’s proclamation.
The deer gun season opens Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at noon central time.
Archery licenses can still be purchased through the end of the bow season on Jan. 8.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Players, coaches and staff with the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team that won the national title last season have some new bling.
Team members were presented with their NCAA national championship rings during a private ceremony Wednesday night at Ralph Engelstad arena.
The rings were financed through a gift from the Engelstad Family Foundation and created by Jostens Inc. with the collaboration of UND Athletics. They feature an interlocking “ND” on top surrounded by eight green emeralds, representing the school’s eight national hockey titles.
The sides of the ring feature player information, the championship trophy, the arena, the team record and a championship banner.
UND captured the NCAA Division I crown on April 9 with a 5-1 victory over Quinnipiac at the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.

Roughned Odor (oh-DOOR’) hit his 32nd homer and drove in two and Carlos Gomez hit a three-run homer as AL Central champion Texas beat Milwaukee 8-5. Texas moved closer to home-field advantage with a 1 1/2-game lead over Boston for the best record in the American League.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The World Series champions have failed to make the postseason.
Kendrys Morales and Alex Gordon keyed an eighth-inning rally and Kansas City beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Wednesday night, but the Royals were still knocked out of playoff contention.
The defending World Series champs were eliminated when Baltimore beat Toronto 3-2.
Morales’ ground-rule double to right scored Jarrod Dyson, who had doubled and stole third. Gordon’s single scored Whit Merrifield and pinch-runner Billy Burns.
Taylor Rogers (3-1), the fourth of five Twins pitchers, took the loss after allowing three runs, three hits and two walks while retiring only one of the six batters he faced.
Joakim Soria (5-8) worked a scoreless eighth to pick up the victory. Wade Davis got his 27th save in 30 chances.
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees both celebrated at Yankee Stadium last night.
The Red Sox were celebrating because they are American League East champions and have a shot at their second World Series crown in four years. The Red Sox clinched when second-place Toronto lost 3-2 at home to Baltimore.
The Yankees celebrated for a slightly less important reason. Mark Teixeira (the-SHEHR’-ah) delivered a walk-off grand slam home run to give the Yanks a 5-3 win over the Red Sox.
Miguel Cabrera hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fifth inning moments before the game was halted for good, and the Detroit Tigers posted a rain-shortened 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Detroit trails the Orioles by one game for the AL’s second wild card.
Robinson Cano (kan-OH’) hit a three-run homer in the first inning to propel Seattle to a 12-4 win over Houston. Kyle Seager added another three-run drive in the eighth to help the Mariners stayed two games back of Baltimore for the second AL wild card.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Maya Moore scored 31 points, including 15 in the second quarter, as the Minnesota Lynx opened their WNBA title defense with a 113-95 win over the Phoenix Mercury in the first game of the WNBA semifinals on Wednesday night.
Lindsay Whalen added 19 points and seven assists for top-seed Minnesota, which has beat Phoenix in all four meetings this season. Center Sylvia Fowles scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Lynx broke the WNBA record for points in a regulation playoff game.
Diana Taurasi scored 25 points for the Mercury, who won the matchup between the two teams in 2014 on the way to their own championship. Brittney Griner added 16 points for Phoenix but was held to just two rebounds.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen has won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award, coming off his performance at Carolina with a career-high-tying three sacks plus nine hurries of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
Griffen is tied for second in the NFL with four sacks. The seventh-year veteran has 44 sacks in his career, all with the Vikings. He’s the 10th player of the week winner in three seasons under coach Mike Zimmer and the sixth on defense.
Including the last two games of the 2015 regular season, the Vikings have had a winner for five straight weeks. Linebacker Eric Kendricks and wide receiver Stefon Diggs were honored the previous two games. Kicker Blair Walsh and Griffen won awards late last season.
Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler has returned to practice on a limited basis after missing a game because of a sprained right thumb. Brian Hoyer ran the offense in Sunday’s loss to Dallas and would likely start again if Cutler is not available against Detroit this week.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Tim Tebow’s instructional league debut for the Mets got off to a smashing start. The former NFL quarterback homered on the first pitch he saw in the game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner drove a high 90 mph fastball over the left-field fence. The 29-year-old went 1 for 6 at the plate.
RYDER CUP…
CHASKA, Minn. (AP) — Phil Mickelson criticized another Ryder Cup captain in explaining why this American team at least will be prepared to play its best.
Mickelson was the catalyst for change in 2014 when he publicly questioned Tom Watson’s heavy-handed role as captain in Gleneagles in another American loss. That led to a task force that allowed for more player involvement.
Mickelson used Hal Sutton and his captaincy in 2004 as an example of players being set up for failure. He says Sutton only told him he was playing with Tiger Woods just two days before the start of the matches. Mickelson says he had to learn how to hit a different golf ball and it affected his preparations.
He says Davis Love the Third has them in a position to succeed at Hazeltine.

EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) — Police in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon (kuh-HOHN’) say the object a black man was holding when he was fatally shot by police was an electronic cigarette. Police released a photo showing the man with his hand extended in what they called a “shooting stance.” Critics are asking why one officer opened fire when another chose to use a stun gun instead.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AP) — Tropical Storm Matthew swirled westward into the open waters of the Caribbean early today after hitting islands at the sea’s southern entry with heavy wind and rain. Matthew is taking an unusual southerly track through an area that gets relatively few tropical storms. A tropical storm warning was issued for St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands.
