GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a Jamestown man who died after a pickup truck crash in northeastern North Dakota’s Walsh County.
The Highway Patrol says 46-year-old Brent Kimball died at the scene about 23 miles north of Grand Forks when his truck went into the median off Interstate 29 and struck the concrete support for an overpass.
The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. Monday. Kimball was alone in the vehicle.
Assisting at the scene, were, Oslo Fire and Rescue, and Valley Ambulance Service.
Valley City (CSi) The Valley City Commission will meet in Special Session, Wednesday at noon at City Hall, to act on Resolutions, declaring an emergency while crews install a knife valve in the Master Lift Station.
The failure of a plug in the sewer main occurred during maintenance of the Master Lift Station
Due to the emergency status the Resolution allows the governing body of the city to contract for the construction of a public improvement without seeking bids if a governing body declares an emergency situation.
Agenda:
- Approve Resolution #2079, a Resolution Declaring an Emergency for Failure of the Plug at the Master Lift Station.2. Consider the Authorization of Funds to Install a Valve on the Sewer Main Located next to the Master Lift Station.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Area Grief Support Team (JAGST) in conjunction with the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) Family Birthplace will hold a candlelight service Saturday, October 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 424 First Avenue South, Jamestown, for families and loved ones affected by infant loss from infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death. The evening will begin with a short Walk of Remembrance followed by the candlelight service at the church.
At 6-p.m., registration, followed by the walk, and then the Service at 7-p.m.
On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 from Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s Family Birthplace, Renae Lunde pointed out that, In 1988 the month of October was proclaimed as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month. October 15th has been recognized as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. This day allows families and friends to honor their babies who have died. International Wave of Light ceremonies are held at 7:00 p.m. local time in all time zones. Participants are asked to burn their candles for at least one hour, resulting in a continuous chain of lighted candles throughout the globe on this day.
This will be the fifth annual candle lighting ceremony in Jamestown, joining those around the world to create a Wave of Light in memory of the babies lost.
Also on our show were Brandi Netolicky, and Gail Renwick, who have lost babies, and shared their grieving process and how participating in The Wave of Light Candlelight Services has been a healing experience.
Fellowship and refreshments will follow the candle lighting service. For more information on the event please contact Renae Lunde in the JRMC Family Birthplace at (701) 952-4807.

Valley City (CSi) A fault in an underground electrical cable caused a power outage at Jefferson Elementary School, for about an hour, on Tuesday.
Valley City Electrical Supervisor Marshall Senf says crews worked most of the day to replace the cable.
Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson says generators supplied a limited amount of lighting for classrooms until the full power returned.
Johnson pointed out that students assisted in preparing sandwiches for lunch due to the lack of full power to run the ovens.
Classes then resumed and it was anticipated that power would be restored to normal capacity on Wednesday, October 12th.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Fargo firefighters are investigating the cause of an early morning blaze at a commercial building.
The fire broke out about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday in the building that houses four businesses and also storage space. A passer-by alerted authorities.
Firefighters contained fire damage to an office for the Nugget Vending company, but smoke filled the building.
Damage is estimated at $25,000. No injuries were reported.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Representatives of some oil pipeline companies who were targeted by activists showing support with Dakota Access pipeline opponents say the attempt to disrupt delivery was not successful.
A group known as Climate Direct Action tried to shut valves on two pipelines in Minnesota, one in North Dakota, one in Montana and one in Washington state on Tuesday morning. All of the lines move oil from Canada to the United States.
Officials say pipelines at four of the sites were temporarily shut down before the protesters could reach the valves.
In Washington, the Mountain Puget Sound pipeline system wasn’t operating at the time of the attempt.
An Enbridge spokeswoman says the company regularly stops and starts its pipelines and reported “normal system operations” after the incident. Officials with Spectra Energy’s Express pipeline in Coal Banks Landing, Montana, say they were offline for five hours.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — The city of Williston has started construction on a $240 million airport northwest of the oil patch hub. A ground-breaking ceremony was held Monday for the project being funded by federal, state and city dollars.
The city’s existing Sloulin Field International Airport saw a ten-fold increase in passengers from 2008 to 2014, due in large part to record oil activity. The new Williston Basin International Airport is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — People protesting the four-state Dakota Access pipeline are making plans to oppose construction that’s restarting in southern North Dakota.
A federal appeals court ruling Sunday cleared the way for construction to resume on private land near Lake Oahe (oh-AW’-hee), though work on federal land is still held up. Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners says it will start working again, but isn’t saying exactly when.
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe opposes the pipeline over concerns about drinking water and cultural sites, and protests have been going on for months.
Protest camp spokesman Cody Hall says protesters will be discussing nonviolent ways to oppose the work, and that methods might include protesters chaining themselves to equipment. He says protesters are “going to fight this pipeline to the very end.”
This item has been corrected to show that Cody Hall is a spokesman for the protest camp, not the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm has maximum sustained winds of about 75 mph. Nicole is expected to strengthen somewhat before its center reaches Bermuda on Thursday morning.
