Medina (CSi) Emergency response teams were called out around 7:30 Sunday night to a large blaze at Diamond W Feeds facility at 102 N.P. Street Northwest, in Medina.
WDAY reports that Medina Fire Department was assisted on the scene by fire departments from Medina, Streeter, Cleveland, Woodworth, and Jamestown along with Medina Ambulance, the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department, and North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The elevator smoldered for several hours before the fire spread to the upper level, and burned the structure to the ground.
Reports indicate that the structure was evacuated before any injuries occurred.
One fire fighter suffered from over heating and a burned face.
The mostly wooden main elevator collapsed about midnight.
About 40,000 bushels of grain was lost.
KVLY reports that Crews battled the blaze to keep it from spreading to nearby houses.
CSi videographer Tom Ravely on the scene reported embers from the fire sparked grass fires in the area, as far as a half mile from town, as one resident hosed her residence’s roof as the embers flew through the air.
The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office says the grain elevator is expected to be a total loss.
Authorities were working traffic control, Sunday night as the fire drew several on lookers.
Natural gas was shut off at the scene.
The official cause is under investigation.

Jamestown (CSi) The Frontier Village Board of Directors has voted 7-0 to elect Acting President, Nellie Degen, as President effective in January of 2017. The board also unanimously elected Jim Cofield as vice president and re-elected Tina Busche as secretary-treasurer.
Ms Degen pointed out that security measures at Frontier Village continue to be stepped up.
Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger has been give gate keys that allow patrols of the village. Also security cameras have been installed with the Stutsman County Communications Center now able to view the camera feeds an alert officers of possible situations before they enter the village.
The increase in security measures was approved in light of two horses at the Village injured last summer by pellet guns.
Vandalism was also reported last summer as a fence was purposely cut in two places and the goats temporarily got out.
Spiritwood (CSi) The North Dakota State Water Commission will conduct an aerial electromagnetic survey of the Spiritwood aquifer.
The survey consist of the helicopter towing an antenna about 100 feet above ground sending and receiving electromagnetic signals that characterizes the geology beneath the surface.
The State Enigneer’s Director of Water Appropriations, Jon Patch says, the survey results will provide a high resolution map of the Spiritwood aquifer which is a major groundwater supply in the area. The map aids in identifying and optimizing local sources of available groundwater.
The helicopter flies in an area about five miles wide from Wallum, north, south to Montpelier. Patch says the flight survey might take about two to three weeks depending on weather and the data collection will continue through October.
Patch says, AEM has proven to be a safe, dependable, and cost-effective way to collect an enormous amount of data and may revolutionize the way we do data collection in the future. It’s leading edge stuff.

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified a St. Michael man who died in a one-vehicle crash in Benson County over the weekend.
The Highway Patrol says 46-year-old Robert Herman Jr. failed to negotiate a curve on a rural road about 12 miles southeast of Devils Lake, and his car rolled in the ditch shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday.
Herman died at the scene. He was alone in the car.
CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association is offering a reward of up to $14,000 for information that helps crack cases of missing and dead livestock in Sioux County.
The rancher group says in one instance, three dead bison were found. The other case involves a dead saddle horse, four dead cows and more than 30 missing cattle. Both cases happened near Cannon Ball.
The Stockmen’s Association is working with law enforcement on the investigation, and advising ranchers in the area to monitor their herds and report any suspicious activity.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — One of the leading aviation schools in the country has added a new class to its curriculum: a drone business course.
The 24 students in the University of North Dakota class are not only learning how to fly drones, they are receiving real-world business experience. At the end of the semester the will pitch their enterprise ideas to venture capitalists and executives in a “Shark Tank” setting.
One of the students, Blaire Beecham, says she discovered a passion for drones late in a collegiate career that had her bouncing between UND and Texas Christian University. She calls the class a “game-changer” for her career.
Beecham’s team is working on designing and building a bubble or a shield around drones so they can fly underground or in tunnels.
ST. ANTHONY, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have arrested more than a dozen protesters during demonstrations against the Dakota Access oil pipeline this weekend.
Police arrested 14 protesters at three protest sites on Saturday. The Morton County Sheriff’s Department says pipeline workers were evacuated from sites near the protests by 9 a.m. All pipeline workers were back at work by 2 p.m.
The Bismarck Tribune reports about 100 officers converged with 150 protesters southeast of St. Anthony. Protesters sang and beat drums in the middle of a gravel road for about an hour. No one was arrested.
Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners is trying to wrap up construction on the $3.8 billion, 1,200-mile pipeline from North Dakota to Illinois. Opponents of the pipeline worry about potential impacts on drinking water on the Standing Rock Sioux reservation.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Bismarck State College officials say the creation of a new wind technician training tower will help provide more training and education to students.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the 32-foot Nacelle Tower located on the west lawn of the university’s National Energy Center of Excellence replicates the top portion of a commercial wind tower.
It comes complete with a nacelle, the large box-like component at the top of turbine towers, and a hub, which usually stores the tower’s generating components.
The center’s dean, Bruce Emmil, says it can be nerve-racking when a worker has to perform maintenance on a 280- to 300-foot wind tower hub for the first time. He says the Nacelle Tower’s lower height will allow students to practice in a realistic, yet controlled environment.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Residents of a rural Williams County subdivision say the gravel roads leading to their neighborhood are hazardous, but they’re having trouble pinpointing who is responsible for the work.
The Williston Herald reports residents of Lukenbill Estates, just north of Williston, have asked for help with a roughly one-mile stretch leading to the subdivision’s entrance. They say the rutted gravel thoroughfares are treacherous in inclement weather and that school bus drivers have balked at navigating the roads in particular weather conditions.
Resident Deanna Senior told county commissioners last month that 50 cars have ended up in a ditch in the past four years.
Commissioners said last month that the roads fall under the township’s jurisdiction. Township board members say the original agreement, which lists the development group as responsible, should be adhered to.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to striking and killing a pedestrian in Williston last year has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Twenty-two-year-old Bryan Wipf pleaded guilty in July to negligent homicide and driving with a suspended license.
The Williston Herald reports Wipf sat silently during Friday’s hearing, which was attended by more than 20 relatives of 64-year-old Lyle Forsberg, who died in December when Wipf struck him with his pickup truck.
Authorities said Wipf had been drinking, although his blood alcohol level was under the legal limit, and that he accelerated into the intersection where Forsberg was walking to work.
His plea deal called for a five-year sentence with three years suspended. He’ll get credit for the nearly 300 days he’s served in jail since his arrest.

MLB… NATIONAL LEAGUE CHICAGO (AP) — Clayton Kershaw continued his standout postseason pitching by shutting down the Cubs in The Dodgers 1-0 in Game 2 of the NLCS. The Dodgers left-handed ace retired the first 14 hitters he faces and only gave up two hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out six. Kenley Jansen then got six outs for his third save of the playoffs. Kershaw picked up two wins and a series clinching save in the Dodgers three wins over Washington in the ALDS Adrian Gonzalez gave the left-hander all the support he’d need with a leadoff homer off of Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks in the second inning. That was the only damage against Hendricks who worked 5 1-3 innings. He allowed three hits, walked four and struck out five. The series is now tied at a game each heading to Los Angeles. The American League Championship Series had a day off before play will resume Monday night in Toronto. Cleveland has a 2-0 lead in the series. Indians Game 3 starter Trevor Bauer says he’ll be ready for the outing and adds that he won’t be bothered by the stitches he has in the pinkie finger on his right hand. Bauer received the stitches after cutting the finger while working on a drone a few nights ago. Because of the mishap he had to have his Game 2 start pushed back. Marcus Stroman gets the start for the Blue Jays.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — On the very first play from scrimmage, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz’s jersey was ripped apart as he got sacked. Things never really got a whole lot better for Wentz — or the rest of his suddenly reeling team, for that matter — during what would become a 27-20 loss to the NFC East rival Washington Redskins on Sunday. This was the second consecutive loss for the Eagles (3-2) after they entered their bye at 3-0 off a rout of the Pittsburgh Steelers with Wentz hailed as a ready-made star.
Dak Prescott threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns to lead Dallas to a 30-16 win over the Packers in Green Bay. Prescott’s NFL record streak for a quarterback at the start of his career without an interception ended at 176 pass attempts late in the third quarter.
For the second straight week the Bears lost because of a last minute touchdown pass. This time it was Blake Bortles connecting with Arrelious Benn on a 51-yard touchdown. KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kevin Harvick won the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, going to the front on a late restart and outrunning Carl Edwards to lock up his spot in the next round of the Chase. Harvick was among the fastest in the final qualifying session, and hung around the front all day while other Chase contenders faltered. He was still at the front when Regan Smith brought out the final caution, and was able to keep Edwards at bay over the final 30 laps. He joined Jimmie Johnson, the winner last weekend at Charlotte, in the round of eight of NASCAR’s playoffs, while the pressure is on the rest of the contenders heading to Talladega. Joey Logano was third, followed by Johnson, Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon. Matt Kenseth dominated early before dealing with handling problems that left him ninth.

The Crimson Tide, with a lopsided win over previously ninth-ranked Tennessee on Saturday, received a season-high 60 first-place votes. Ohio State remains No. 2 in the poll with arch rival Michigan now ranked third. The Wolverines received the only remaining first-place vote. Rounding out the top five are Clemson fourth and then Washington. The second five features Texas A&M, Louisville, Nebraska, Baylor and Wisconsin. Ohio State and Michigan seem on a collision course for their annual showdown, this year in Columbus.
In world and national news… KHAZER, Iraq (AP) — Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led airstrikes launched coordinated military operations early today as the long-awaited fight to wrest the city of Mosul (MOH’-sul) from the Islamic State group got underway. But the battle is likely to be long and it’s unclear when the troops would enter the city itself. BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian opposition activists are reporting that airstrikes on a rebel-held, eastern neighborhood in the city of Aleppo have killed at least 13 people, including children. Rebel-controlled parts of Aleppo have been subjected to the worst aerial attacks since a cease-fire brokered by the U.S. and Russia collapsed in September. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican strategists who don’t work for Donald Trump’s campaign are sounding pessimistic about the GOP nominee’s chances of winning the election. They say Democrat Hillary Clinton has, as of now, a firm grip on the 270 Electoral College votes needed to prevail, and that Trump could end up with fewer than 200. WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says high school graduation rates have reached a record high of 83.2 percent, continuing a steady increase that shows improvement across all ethnic groups. President Barack Obama plans to talk about the gains when he visits a Washington, D.C. high school this morning. TOKYO (AP) — Japan’s emperor is hinting he wants to step down. It’s not that easy. Japan’s modern imperial law doesn’t allow abdication, and the postwar constitution gives the emperor no political power or say. Experts on a government-commissioned panel held their first meeting today to study how to accommodate 82-year-old Emperor Akihito’s apparent wish.
