LISBON, N.D. (AP) — An Enderlin man accused in the shooting death of another man in that city last February is to stand trial next March.
Twenty-eight-year-old Paul Miller is charged with murder and reckless endangerment in the death of Billy Holladay. Court documents show that he’s been scheduled for a two-week trial beginning March 20.
Miller could face life in prison without parole if convicted.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s medical examiner says two bone fragments found along the path of the proposed Dakota Access pipeline were not from a human.
The discovery Thursday came several weeks after the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe says it has found several sites of “significant cultural and historic value” in the area, where protesters and private security clashed in September over construction.
Dr. William Massello says in a memo obtained by The Associated Press that the bones were from a “horse, cow or deer.”
The bone fragments were found Thursday during a tour with government officials and people from Energy Transfer Partners, as well as tribal members.
Standing Rock Chairman Dave Archambault was on the tour and says the discovery — human fragments or not — shows the need for more study.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Old social media posts involving drinking, driving and shooting things have come back to haunt a state legislative candidate from Minot.
The posts that Republican Matthew Ruby made in 2012 and 2013 surfaced recently on a Fargo-based conservative website.
The 24-year-old National Guard sergeant says the posts don’t reflect his views or behavior. He says he’s never driven drunk or hunted while drinking.
Ruby said the posts were in poor taste, and he apologized.
State Democratic Party Executive Director Robert Haider issued a statement saying he was disappointed with the posts and calling them a distraction.
Ruby and Randy Schobinger are looking to retain Republican control of District 40’s House seats in the Nov. 8 election. AJ Schultz and Heidi Rintoul are running as Democrats.
WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — More than 200 bison were rounded up at the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park this week, in the first such operation in six years.
The 225 animals were collected over the past few days with the help of a helicopter, herding them into the holding pens at the park.
All of them were tested for disease, tagged for easy identification in the future and will be released back into the park.
Some excess animals will be given to various groups including American Indian tribes and the National Buffalo Museum’s herd in Jamestown.
The park’s chief biologist, Blake McCann, says he’d like to ramp up the frequency of the roundups to improve the long-term health of the bison herd.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — More than two dozen projects in North Dakota are sharing in $2.3 million in federal money aimed at promoting specialty crops.
North Dakota gets money from the federal government to dole out as grants to boost the production and processing of crops such as dry peas, lentils, honey and confection sunflowers. The state already is among the nation’s leaders in producing those crops.
The state Agriculture Department received 35 applications this year. A committee reviewed them, and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring approved 27 and forwarded them to the federal Agriculture Department for final approval.
Grant recipients include North Dakota State University, the Northern Pulse Growers Association, the North Dakota Trade Office, the state Agriculture Department, the National Sunflower Association, Burnt Creek Nursery and Dakota Prairies Resource Conservation and Development Council.

NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA says its officials missed a shot-clock violation late in Game 5 of the Finals on Thursday night.
The league released a statement Friday saying Nneka Ogwumike’s basket for Los Angeles with 1:14 remaining shouldn’t have counted because it came after the shot clock expired. The statement also says officials improperly failed to review the play.
Ogwumike later made the game-winning shot at the buzzer, giving the Sparks a 77-76 win over the Minnesota Lynx, for their first championship since 2002.
After the game, Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve said the league needed to do more than just apologize and “send a memo.”
It’s the second time in a week officials missed a call. The WNBA acknowledged the referees missed an 8-second backcourt violation late in Game 4, which Minnesota won.

FLETCHER, N.C. (AP) — Donald Trump is taking a rare swipe at Michelle Obama. For much of the campaign, he’s avoided directly challenging the first lady. Polls show she is far more popular than her husband or the two presidential nominees. But at a rally Friday in North Carolina, Trump complained that “all she wants to do is campaign.” He then accused her of attacking Hillary Clinton during the 2008 primaries.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Lawyers for Donald Trump don’t want any statements he made during the presidential campaign to be mentioned in an upcoming civil trial over Trump University. They want to exclude his tweets and any “personal conduct accusations” — as well as anything said during the debates, and audio or video recordings that have emerged during the campaign. Trump’s attorney also wants to keep the jury from hearing about Trump’s comments that the judge overseeing the civil fraud lawsuit cannot preside fairly over it because of his Mexican heritage.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is offering new evidence that the short-handed court is having trouble getting its work done. The justices have yet to schedule three cases for arguments. The cases involve separation of church and state, class-action lawsuits and property rights, issues that often split liberal and conservative justices. Their absence from the calendar suggests that the justices believe they may divide 4 to 4, and are waiting for a ninth justice to join them.
UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — The pastor of a New York church where two brothers were beaten for hours during what authorities called a counseling session has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault. Three other members of Word of Life Christian Church admitted to less serious charges Friday for their roles in the beatings that killed 19-year-old Lucas Leonard and injured his 17-year-old brother, Christopher, in New Hartford last October.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed into law one of the nation’s toughest restrictions on Airbnb. It authorizes fines of up to $7,500 for people who advertise illegal short-term rentals. The Democratic governor signed the measure into law despite a last-minute attempt to kill the proposal from the popular online short-term rental service. Supporters say the law will help stop illegal, unlicensed hotels and protect affordable residential housing in New York City.
