Voldness is accused of making a U-turn in front of Glas’ motorcycle, causing a crash that killed him.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a pickup, bicycle accident Wednesday afternoon about 2:45-p.m., on Griggs County Road 19, two miles south of Cooperstown seriously injured the bike rider.

The report says a 2016 Ram pick up was northbound, coming upon a northbound bike rider.

The pickup driver 52 year old Rick Rahlf of Cooperstown attempted to brake and swerve to avoid striking 67 year old Leslie Ronningen of Cooperstown.

The pickup struck the bike and rider from behind causing them to vault into the east ditch.

The report says Ronnigen received life-threatening injuries and was taken by Cooperstown Ambulance  Service, to Cooperstown Medical Center and then flown to Essentia Hospital in Fargo.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was the Griggs County Sheriff’s Office.

CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) — Hundreds of clergy of various faiths have joined protests against the Dakota Access oil pipeline in southern North Dakota.

The Unitarian Universalist Association says the goal of the event is to draw attention to the concerns of the Standing Rock Sioux and push elected officials to call for a halt to construction. The tribe says the $3.8 billion four-state pipeline threatens its drinking water and cultural sites.

Clergy and protesters gathered at a campfire at the main protest camp to burn a copy of a religious document from the 1400s that attempted to justify the taking of land from indigenous peoples. Hundreds then sang songs while they marched to a bridge that was the site of a recent clash between protesters and officers.

Officers monitored Thursday’s ceremony but didn’t intervene.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A group sponsoring an initiated measure to make medical marijuana legal in North Dakota is making a last-minute advertising push, thanks to a surprise donation from a national organization. The North Dakota Compassionate Care committee received $15,000 last week from Drug Policy Action. The money is going toward TV and online ads featuring North Dakota residents who want the option of using marijuana to help alleviate chronic pain. No money has been raised in opposition to the measure.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Though he lived in Chicago, President Barack Obama is known as a White Sox fan. But he says the Chicago Cubs’ win in the World Series is “change even this south Sider can believe in.” In a tweet Thursday, he invited the baseball champions to visit the White House before he leaves office in January.

CHICAGO (AP) — The city of Chicago plans to honor its World Series champion Cubs with a parade and rally on Friday.

The celebration will start about 10 a.m. when the official parade leaves Wrigley Field and heads for downtown Chicago. The route will travel along the city’s famed Michigan Avenue and then along Columbus Drive near Lake Michigan before heading to Grant Park. Fans are encouraged to line the route.

Officials expect the Cubs motorcade to arrive in Grant Park around noon Friday, when there will be a rally at Hutchinson Field. The rally and parade come two days after the team won its first World Series championship in 108 years.

The city says closed water bottles will be allowed into the rally and food vendors will be on site.

In world and national news…

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump today has been trying to win the support of the moderate Republicans and independents who’ve been the holdouts of his campaign — voters who’ve been turned off by his controversies, but who are repelled by the possible return of the Clintons. At a rally in Jacksonville, Florida, Thursday, he reminded supporters of the impeachment battle of the 1990s, saying, “Here we go again with the Clintons.” Meanwhile, President Barack Obama and his allies are looking to keep the spotlight on Trump and his disparaging comments about women and minorities — saying that he’s unfit for office. Obama told college students, “This isn’t ‘Survivor.’ This isn’t ‘The Bachelorette.'”

BERWYN, Pa. (AP) — Melania Trump has been celebrating her immigrant story in a rare speech on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Trump says that, growing up in her native Slovenia, “America was the word for freedom and opportunity.” Speaking outside Philadelphia, Mrs. Trump described her decision to move to the United States and eventually earn citizenship “as the greatest privilege in the world.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says it’s aware of a tape released by the leader of the Islamic State group, urging followers to keep up the fight for the Iraqi city of Mosul. But a White House spokesman says no propaganda can change the reality that the militants continue to lose ground week after week. Meanwhile, the United Nations says some 22,000 people are currently displaced in the fight to take Iraq’s second-biggest city back from the militants. A spokesman says about half of those displaced have settled in camps and the remainder in host communities.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The driver of a Baltimore school bus that was involved in a deadly crash with a commuter bus had been convicted of the kind of criminal offense that can disqualify people from driving school buses in Maryland. Court records show that Glenn Chappell had pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in Baltimore in 2012. A state education department spokesman says the local school district would have been responsible for making sure Chappell met the requirements, even though he worked for a contractor. Chappell died in the crash, along with the driver and four passengers on the commuter bus.
